I know the Sonic cycle tells me not to be fooled... But that looked like a good bit of fun!

Not everyone thinks Colors broke this.
You just called Sonic Advance 3 awful.
I don't like you anymore.
I see what u did there. The best thing about this? If it sucks, you can sell it.
That's Dolphin. And it's a bit unfair given that we have only seen one area of Sonic and the game isn't finalized yet. Mario does look outstandingly gorgeous though.
IMO SMG looks tons better visually.

If it makes you feel better, it's not as bad as Advance 2 or as dull as Advance 1. Awful was a strong word, it's not like it's Sonic Rush.

Because you're playing on an emulator displaying it in HD and comparing it to a compressed video of an unfinished product.
I didn't really enjoy Rush for its level design. I felt it was pretty weak.Sonic Rush is the best of the portable series.

No, I'm comparing it to official HD screenshots from IGN which have probably been cleaned up.
And Generations?
Seriously, people that think the Sonic Cycle is still in effect are years out of the loop.
IMO SMG looks tons better visually.
What's your favorite then? I can't think of a portable game I enjoyed more than Rush, but that's me.
Oh.
Then, I'm not sure where you're getting that idea from. I can understand if you like the aesthetics of Galaxy better, but there is no denying that Lost Worlds is more crisp.

Sonic Rush is the best of the portable series.
The portable games are mostly rubbish in general, but Sonic Triple Trouble was pretty good for a Game Gear game.
If by best you mean worst I agree with you.
Worst 2D level design? Check
Terrible boost mechanic? Check
Nah, that's going a bit too far. Sonic Blast is hands down the worst portable Sonic to ever exist.
Blue Marine Zone... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I'll defer to you guys there, never had a gamegear.
The series does still have recurring flaws, despite them getting better. So, that's still a cycle.
I'm not trying to argue for the cycle, but rather that both sides of this don't really hold much ground.
You really didn't miss out on much.
Colors and Generations are sufficiently good enough that - even if an individual had issues with them - any notion of a "cycle" of disappointment is a fantasy.
We might as well talk about "The Zelda Cycle" or "The Final Fantasy Cycle" at that point.
I might be alone in my opinion that Sonic Rush Adventure was better than the original in nearly every way (with music being an exception). I honestly felt that Rush Adventure has better levels, better bosses, better story, better replay value, better online mode, and loved the optional stages and 100 extra missions. The only thing I recall disliking about it was that each form of transportation, despite getting faster on the map, felt slower and felt less fun than the last.
Sonic cycle has been broken for a while. Feels good.I know the Sonic cycle tells me not to be fooled... But that looked like a good bit of fun!
Well, as excited as I am for this, to be fair the apprehension comes from knowing that this is the same Sonic team that thought it a good idea to make barely dedecent controls in secret rings an unlockable and many more proposterous design decisions. Far from anything zelda tbh. Final fantasy is arguable.Colors and Generations are sufficiently good enough that - even if an individual had issues with them - any notion of a "cycle" of disappointment is a fantasy.

Again, sufficiently good enough for everyone? Not everyone holds Generations to that level.
For example, I was completely disappointed by the classic Sonic levels. That's a half of the game right there. Should I chalk that one up as a victory?
Mind, blown.Miles "Tails" Prower. Miles Prower. Say it slowly.
Miles Per Hour

They have been improving steadily though. I give you that.
Secret Rings started as a Wii port of '06 if I'm correct, and the turn over after '06 to Unleashed was significant, again, if I'm correctWell, as excited as I am for this, to be fair the apprehension comes from knowing that this is the same Sonic team that thought it a good idea to make barely dedecent controls in secret rings an unlockable and many more proposterous design decisions. I'd suggest you are a minority. Now, I'm not dismissing your opinion: it's perfectly valid. It might be an arguable opinion with great merit. But there are just as many dissenters for a number of huge series, and no one claims they have "cycles". Pretty sure more people hated the latest Zelda and FF games than hated Generations and Colors.
The reason why we have the concept of the Sonic Cycle is because of games like Heroes, Shadow and Sonic 2006. It went from being a beloved series in the 16-bit era, to being nearly unplayable. The new games are not even close to those universally hated pieces of shit, so new Sonic does not earn that level of pessimism.
Saying the Sonic Cycle is dead does not imply that all new Sonic games are A+. It implies that the quality control has now been put in place to prevent bottom of the barrel crap.
Any of those games, flawed as they may be, are regarded as far superior (well maybe except phantom hourglass) than anything Sonic team had come up with in the last 15 years. Its the severity of their bad design choices that is somewhat baffling when they are bad.The past half decade I've heard nothing but bitching about Twilight Princess, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks and Skyward Sword... so that's where I'm coming from there.
