Holy effin motherfucking shit!
The first console I ever owned was the Genesis2 bundled with Sonic2!
It was my sister's idea, not mine. I remember playing splitscreen [the fist time ever played any videogame ever on our TV] and think the holographic bushes in the first zone were bad and trying to jump over them.

My Father had read the manual and said "I bet you can't do a spin dash" and I couldn't. :[
He had to show me how.

From the on I was dodging "groundings" with the aid of my Grandma playing motherfucking SONIC.
[she even let me play shadows the empire for like 10 hours a day until I beat it, years later]
Go Grandma Jtwo!

EDIT:
I got some 595's just waiting for the task!

With all due respect, this does seem kinda NSMBW-like direction they are going for, specially the fact that they are using models and moves from newer titles, while basing itself on it's original gameplay splashed with stuff that's new too. At least, that is the vibe I get. 100 percent classic Sonic this is not, and 100 percent classic Mario is what NSMB/W is not either, and that is not necessarily a bad thing.
well i meant it from a gameplay/level design perspective. I'm sure that there will be some new moves, special stages and visual effects that sonic 4 will introduce to the series but from what seen & heard so far it looks like sega is just gonna stick to the classic 16-bit formula . also to clarify my position i see new mario bros wii as the best/most refined 2-d mario game ever. from a visual perspective it might just look like nsmb ds (which i hated) but its master class level design truly re-formulates mario magic (imho).

Such a cheap version of the S2 special stage :lol sonic's running animation is wrong also, who runs with their feet apart like a robot? The only S2 bonus stage clone which has been good so far is the one from 3D blast saturn.
I have only seen clips of those stages. Holy crap, I must buy a Saturn.
Screw emulation.

Aye. Sonic 3D Blast on the Sega Saturn was fantastic. I enjoyed everything about it. Especially the music. Richard Jacques is the fucking man. I hope he gets to compose something for this. He's one of my top favorite composers in this industry. Like, in my top three. He's that good.

Ah the Sonic Jam/3d Blast models of Sonic. Sonic World in Sonic Jam and those special stages in 3d Blast made me so excited for a Saturn 3d Sonic I couldnt contain myself, but all we got was some awful trundly Travellers Tales constructed racer instead. Also the last outings for Classic Sonic as well of course before that green eyed cunt turned up.

Yeah, but keywords, "what we've seen so far"
What we've seen so far is a couple enemies, Sonic running and jumping, and three seconds of a stage modeled after Green Hill

You know what, lets predicate some shit for this game:

-It will have grinding.
-there will be story segments between levels and zone acts.
-It will be a little more platformy than the recent 2D Sonic but still about speed.

I'm pretty sure of this, wouldn't want it but thats what I expect.

As long as the story scenes are skippable and the grinding doesn't lead to a random pit, I don't really see what the problem with these "issues" are. Despite what you read on NeoGAF, the recent 2D Sonic games have been very well received.

Sonic 2006 was Sonic Adventure 3. It was elements from the previous Sonic Adventure games smeared with poo and left to rot in a steamy, hot out house for a week.

Finally someone who sees it how I have seen it for years.

Sonic Rush

Bit of forewarning; the soundtrack if godawful.

The soundtrack is one of it's high points.

Hideki Naganuma IS God

Maybe I should revisit the soundtrack.

All I remember is sub-par forgettable tunes with "CD quality" samples horrendously patched over them with stupid shit like "Right here, right on!" and "Too Black! Too strong!"

Seemed like a short-lived novelty.

in my dream 2-d sonic i'd have: hd visuals like in orioto's art, an all star cast(nakamura, naganuma, ogata, hayata) soundtrack, 100+ ead tokyo designed levels, boss battles by treasure, special stages by q entertainment and kickass online modes(co-op over net). since i already pledged to support sonic 4 day one, it's ok for me to dream right? :D

Really? Orioto did some very nice fanart, Ill give you that, but he didnt explore the abstract and extremely graphic shapes of the Sonic environments at all, which is what I think made those early games thrive. Sonic in photoreal backgrounds is not something Im interested in.

I don't think that's really true. Besides the Green Hill Zone type stages (and it was only a single zone in every game), Sonic's stages always seemed more grounded than, say, Mario's. Obviously they weren't realistic, but they weren't "abstract" either. The weirdest stage you could get probably is the casino stage, but that's it.

With the exception of grinding (which is fine, nothing wrong with it, especially on the Dimps games), isn't that what this game is aiming for?

Look, anyone who can blend Swedish folk tunes with Public Enemy knows what he's doing.

Chemical Plant, Hydro City and Oil Ocean seemed pretty abstract to me.

not to mention virtually every stage from sonic cd... especially when you factor in the past and future versions...

I'm fine with this as long as their Sonic 3 & Knuckles style with no actual dialogue. Really my biggest hope right now is for no voice acting whatsoever but I'm sure we're gonna have to listen to Jason Griffith letting out "WHOA! YEAH! ALRIGHT! COOL!" every time Sonic does something. :/

Need's a pollution filled zone like scrap brain, all those chimneys in the distance pumping out shit, you knew that this was the place the badniks were being processed, it felt like a shit hole.

My problem with Sonic Rush Adventure is that I beat the first level and cannot be assed to figure out HOW to get to the second level. I was wandering around some island after the Tails cutscene and now I'm just lost. I shut it off and gave it to my little brother, who can't be assed to play it.

God, Sonic Rush truly does have an amazing soundtrack. From A New Day's awesome way to start things off, to Raisin' Me Up's amazing gospel vibe, it's a delight to hear. Raisin' Me Up is not only one of my favorite Sonic songs, it's one of my favorite videogame songs period. Buying the soundtrack was so worth it. :3
If you liked that you should really try the Jet Set Radio soundtrack. Same composer and IMO even better. JSRF's OST was a disappointment though.

Maybe it will be 4 episodes and a new char will be introduced each time (so tails epi2, 3 for knuckles and 4 for whoever)

And as the new chars come in, you can have them replay older episodes?

Too much ambition

Sega already said that Sonic is the only playable character in the game.

Sonic, Tails and Knuckles hmmmm who do we know who green? Yoshi?.... luigi?
Was there any given details about that image, the first time I saw it was on some dodgy website talking about mario and luigi :lol and no one at sonic retro found it so it's rather fishy.

Every single cutscene in both Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure can be skipped. Truly unskippable dialog is rare. The travel minigames honestly are pretty fun (I thought, anyway) and once you visit an island and can mark it on your map, you can just pop open a menu and select that level without ever touching your waterbike ever again.

Level design in Rush Adventure is also leaps over the original Rush. Moments of "FUCK I just died it wasn't my fault" are somewhat frequent in the original Sonic Rush but are almost non-existent in Rush Adventure. Even for experienced players, there are moments in Sonic Rush that will instantly kill you without warning if you aren't paying attention. Huge Crisis (the aircraft carrier level) has a number of areas that lead you in to the path of a crusher, which will often kill you before you can react to their presence. Rush Adventure doesn't do any of that shit.

Rush Adventure is a more polished, more balanced game overall, and I will reiterate that I derived close to the same amount of enjoyment from it as I did from the Sega Genesis Sonic games.

Sonic Rush was good, but Sonic Rush Adventure was great.

Huge Crisis......HUGE CRISIS!!!!!.........HUGE CRISIS!!!!

The rest of the game was soo awesome, but Huge Crisis was such a bitch to get through. Then, you get to Stage 7 and it's a piece of cake.

Awesome news, looks promising so far. Now, no alternate playable characters/game killing powers/distractions please and let it be a jumping point for a new dedicated 2D Sonic console title.

All signs so far point to this game being good.

All it requires is some good level design and spot-on controls(and that's the hardest part).
