"Sony calls on Ken to save PS3."

Steroyd said:
Instead of MS buying out well known studio's like Rare or a contract with Epic they should be nurturing new talent like Level 5, Zipper Inc, Guerilla and Team ICO like Sony did on the PS2.
.

MS were making some strange/unique deals with developers for some of their first party content. Though I'm not sure about Mass Effect, GOW was either self or co-financed by EPIC and they got to keep the IP.

With Insomniac developing Resistance for Sony, they fully funded the project meaning that the IP stays with Sony. So if Insomniac and Sony fell out, Sony could just phone say, Starbreeze and see if they fancied developing the Resistance sequel.

I think this new gen we may see some cases where it's the IP that stays with the publisher and not necessarily the developer. I think this is what MS should be doing, they've already made a start with XBLA.

Perhaps the same way some teams in sports have a youth system to develop and nurture players rather than buying them in.

We already have a post saying that we already have a thread on this news.
So we have to another thread about the same news except this time with "SONY BAD!!!" spin spewing from it?

On Cellius:

Actually Namco may be getting the better end of this deal. They've show no prowess in the next gen arena yet, so access to SONY's dev secrets may turn it around for them.

I've never believed cross-platfoorm was good for gamers. Good games are console tailored.

Agreed, especially now that all 3 platforms are so different in terms of hardware and features offered.

EDIT: Just so I'm clear on this, Cellius is bad news now? How did we spin that?

I'm imagining Sony bringing Ken out of his sleep chamber much in the way Master Chief woke up.

Easy... Namco-Bandai haven't yet got their hands dirty trying to master the PS3 tech so the future of the venture looks bleak...

Atleast this is how I have sense it being spun...Sony can't catch a break even with good news...

I'm personally of the opinion...that we need to be patient...

I don't know man. that's a big ask.....a really big ask.

I think everything will be clear on this CELLIUS situation (if there is one to become clearer) come Sony's Gamer's Day in April (well April, according to Luke Smith.

i disagree with your summary.

less exclusive titles means fewer games taking advantage of any one console's strengths.

Personally, I'd rather have ALL exclusives and buy 2 consoles.

I agree with this point of view, it would be like the first gen of consoles.. Even 3rd parties created mostly exclusive games and each console had a distinct flavor. There was no war, you picked up whatever console suited your gamer's tastes better.

I think your forgetting the business side of gaming.

I agree. I felt most multi-platform games I played last generation were okay, but nothing special. All my favorite games on PS2, Xbox, and GC were exclusive to each platform. I rather see developers concentrate on getting the best out of one platform then try to make a game work on several platforms (which normally causes quality to decrease). IMO, series like MoH, NFS, C, SCII (compared to the first), and many others started going downhill when going multi-platform.

I think the article is a little vague about exclusives leaving Sony, because the two Koei games and one Sega game, already happened. Koei still has a few exclusives on PS3.

There were plenty of great games that were multiplatform during the SNES-Genesis era.

Sony lost their "entitlement" to all 3rd party content when they screwed themselves over with bad decision after bad decision with the PS3. Hell, they're probably going to lose Japan, and it's not out of the question that they finish no.3 in North America.

This is a business, first and foremost. Don't ever be naive enough to think otherwise.

Quality in terms of what? Overall or is there a certain element.

History says Sony was bound to fail anyway...it was set in the stars above!

Good for gamers, period. More titles on cross platforms, less of a reason to shell out $$ to buy all of the consoles.

Wrong... bad, bad, bad... Why do people insist on everything being ported?

the girl next door said:
Since I already have a 360, this is good for me...and most everyone else

Oh... IC... and most everyone else? Last gen, Sony shipped 100+ million units... while there's 10m 360's shipped... Looks like everyone else is waiting for a reason to yet go next gen still...

Ports are bad... they don't push the envelope of the hardware... they don't take the time to get the most out of each individual machine, and do something different and special on each... People with the train of thought like what you have puts huge smiles on EA and Ubi's faces... They can just keep shoveling their wares...

Personally, ever since I was a teen, I was used to titles being on one machine and not the other... I worked to buy more than one console because I knew back then that there's benefits to having more than one machine, and always accepted a multiconsole gaming environment... That's why to this day I still have more than one console...

The PS3 and 360 maybe close in power, but they're obviously not the same machine... Just look at the disgusting ports we've received so far... base for the 360 = crappy running, PPE and 1SPE port on the PS3...

I want devs to focus on the assets each machine possesses and exploits them to the max... THAT'S when it's good for gamers... I'd rather have 10 GREAT AAA exclusive titles than 30 So-So ports thank you very much... Even if I to choose one machine, I'd choose the one where more of my fav exclusives are, end of story... not be a 360 fan, wishing MGS4, DMC4, and FFXIII show up as a half-fast port for both... Not being a PS3 fan wishing Dead Rising being ported over... There's too far and few in between ports which are taking advantage of specifics of machines like Ninja Gaiden Sigma...

The only multiplatform game I bought last gen besides the different Madden's was Mercenaries. Other then that every other multi platform game just didn't do it for me. I'd rather play my exclusives like Resistance and Motorstorm then get Ubi's crappy ports.

base for the 360 = crappy running, PPE and 1SPE port on the PS3...

what if the PS3 is just bad at running code designed for cross platform?

Is there any evidence that the code is being limited to run on PPE and 1 SPE? that sounds a bit reaching.

Is there any evidence that it isn't? All I know is that PS3 first party games and exclusive third party games look better than mulitplatform games, which tells me that these ports are obviously not running code that is optimised to take advatange of the PS3.

Yeah the price to fall below $200.

Sensationalism at it's best. They took a piece of news we already knew about and turned into a supposedly "informed" article. Actually if you read it it offers zero news. It's just a shitty article on a shitty site and it's wrong. No, Cellius isn't the miracle that's gonna save PS3, and PS3 doesn't need saving. Can you please not post non-news from every craphole on the internets? Please.

The noise-to-content ratio is almost worth it just to see how irrate you get.

yeah, working on a game is incrediby easy when your competitor is under fire

heck, the game code practically writes itself!

Well, you could be banned for 'what you meant', so maybe it's better we don't get it, eh? ;)

Does the 360 Core count? Else I don't see it happening before 2008(9?).
Wii is new-gen

Sony could be going out of business (or vice versa) and it still doesn't change the fact that we're trying to ship a game in a few months and that I'm trying to foster a community around Forza.

So why don't you drop the MS accusations already. Sheesh.

And now you attack me for no reason. And people wonder why I'm so defensive (my *other* usual behavior).

And btw if by "usual behavior" you mean critisizing sensationalistic articles that offer nothing to the forum but disaster threads like this, yes it's my usual behavior.

You need to learn what being attacked is. You were called out. It happens.

If you want to continue, hit me with a PM, as your next behavior will be to argue incessantly then feign being a victim and I'm in no mood to subject the whole board to it.

EDIT:
