Sony Computer Entertainment publishing Ghostbusters (in Europe)

I'm guessing that this is a pretty minor deal since the ghost busters movie earned over 80 percent of its revenue in the U.S. and its confirmed that the timed exclusivity is PAL only.

Well thank God this was a false alarm.

PS3 exclusive anything doesn't make any sense these days. Might as well just cut your profit projections in half.

I can't believe I used to take you seriously. Exclusive anything makes no sense in this economy, look at the sales of any big multiplatform game and you will see that publishers stand to lose a lot with exclusives. Especially in the case of the PS3 and 360 whereby sales are always close, they're leaving money on the table...unless they're given money hats which seems to be the case for most of these games. And that really isn't healthy for the industry right now.

If you think that makes no sense but Microsoft dolling out for exclusive JRPG's does, you're crazy. That is throwing away half your projections as well.

Sony just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about European culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Europe, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the european public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Ghostbusters for any system, nor will they purchase any of Sony's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move.

Sony, publicly apologize and cancel Ghostbusters' exclusivity or you can kiss your business goodbye.

:lol this ALWAYS makes me laugh.

SonofaBeep's fanbase -1.

I see what you're saying but disagree to an extent. Yes, publishers stand to lose money with titles on 360 and PS3, but only in comparison with the Wii. However, there is a chance of significant loss if you're only publishing for PS3--especially a "campy" title (if you will) such as this one. This is not my own opinion, but fact.

Also, Microsoft's venture into obtaining JRPGs isn't wholly without purpose. I mean, they are the premiere leader of JRPGs this generation whether one likes to admit it or not. There are many fans of that kind of thing and people will buy the console that has the most to offer ; purely common sense.

No one posted about how much effort they're putting into the PC version yet?

Optimised for SLI/Crossfire and 8 hardware threads, with SSAO, much higher texture/shadow map resolutions as well as the superior control, framerate and IQ benefits inherent in PC gaming.

Its listed at only $30 at Gamestop as well.

So much for the PS3 version being "lead platform", its going to be a poor imitation of the PC version it seems. Makes the delay in Europe hurt even more, though I might just import it considering how cheap it is in the US.

Clicky for interview.

are the screenshots from inferior ps3/360 ports, pardon - poor imitations, not ports?
Because they certainly look crappy for all the talk of PC superiority...

so is it possible as a PAL user to play ghostbusters on the wii..?

I think so, maybe it just depends on how fast the new distributer can get the game out.
There probably is no exclusivity involved after all - distribution rights were on the market and Sony snapped them up for their platforms, at least that's how I imagine it went.

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but a few days ago Austrian Website reported that they learned from SCE Austria that Ghostbusters on PS3 would come with the Blu Ray movie included - the news seemed to be fishy at the time since there was no real quote and I had never heard of the site, but now a listing of the game plus the movie has popped up on German Amazon:

http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B001V7U0MY/ref=s9_simx_gw_s0_p63_t1?pf_rd_m=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=0K38S7M8WVACA7F4G8B5&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=463375193&pf_rd_i=301128

Still weird that the box doesn't say anything about the movie being included, but maybe it's still a temporary boxart.

For reference here is the original article from that Austrian website:
http://elhabib.at/2009/05/29/ghostbusters-the-videogame-inklusive-blu-ray-film/

Again, I'm not vouching that this is indeed true, but it would be totally awesome if we got the movie for free or at least with a major discount.
