Sony doesn't allow Fallout 4/Skyrim mods on PS4

Sony going full heel now?

Sony is really fucking up this week. Good lord. Allow the damn mods. Do they really want Microsoft to say that their games support mods and Sony doesn't.

I wonder how other games will get around the sound issue then. You would think Sony has the same apprehension to making their audio format available across the board.

Perhaps it is different to what the games do in their ecosystem.
As I understand, gamers can make mods for Bethesda games and these mods will perhaps get some technical tests if they run at all and don't break anything but will appear 1:1 in the game for all.
Other devs could setup a more complex system behind that and say "give us mp3 and wmv and we will automatically convert the audio for you".
But I don't know if that is the case, to be honest.

Was getting Xbone version anyway but this sucks for my one friend who was going with the PS4.

Cocky Sony is back brehs

Great reply here....*clap*. I still remember Skyrim on Ps3.... one of the biggest garbage port.... Oblivion was also really bad.... Ho and fallout new Vegas....

Oblivion was the best console port. Just sayin. It was also ported by 4J Studios who did a splendid job.

Why is anyone surprised. Sony only does pro-consumer things when they are down. Now that they are up, they are shitty again.

See also Microsoft, and Nintendo, and basically any corporation.

Sony has kind of been on a rocky anti-consumer road

I mean they listen to some feedback but seem to be ignoring the majority of it and what players want

Its really bothering me lately

I guess it is a "all or nothing"-decision from Bethesda. Only a few mods? I don't know how they do that but it sounds like a lot of extra work to sort out mods that exceed the limit.
And imagine mods available get updates and then magically disappear because suddenly they are too big. Who do you think games would blame? Certainly not Sony.
I'm not familiar with the publishing system for Bethesda Net mods, but I don't see why they couldn't include a flag in the publishing tool that prevents mods over 900mb, with new textures, or new sounds from being published with the PS4 flag active. From what I've been told you've got a lot of options in the CreationKit for flagging what's in your mods and that to publish on Xbox you need to specifically flag it as an Xbox mod.

Man what's going on a Sony these days? Almost seems like now that their killing in the sales department, all that for the players stuff they were talking about at launch just got thrown out the window.

It's not a secret source. It's exactly what the op says in the article. I really don't see this any other way. Why would a company like Bethesda come out to say something like this publicly. There's motivation in everything. This is PR chess and it's silly.
The motivation is they refused to be blamed for not having mods on PS4 and they're absolutely right.

The Skyrim ps3 port was a travesty but this is a completely different issue and it wasn't relevant whatsoever.

Does Sony or the Developer modify the game description in the PS Store? Someone will need to remove the Mods blurb for Skyrim RE, and might as well say "Please buy on Xbox One or PC for the intended experience"

Even if it was the developer who stated that mods would be availible, Sony could have got off their lazy ass and said they wouldn't. Why wait like a year later to make the announcement? Fuck Sony.

Why is it Sony job to step in and say something every time a developer over promises and under delivers? Same thing happen with No Man Sky, hello games fucked up not Sony but people thing Sony should kiss people feet.

Again Bethesda track record on Sony platform is terrible, why would you believe anything they say after all the shit they shoveled on your plate in the past? Really why do you believe them?

Why would they allow/settle for a half-assed roster of less significant and/or tiny mods?

Also I agree with Sg-17 (is it opposite day?) that even if Bethesda can't push all of the Bethesda.net mods through they should just concede and allow the smaller ones. It sucks but it is better than nothing imo.

I guess its Sony bashing season on gaf now? Why is everyone taking Bethesda's word as gospel here? This is something both sides have been working on for months apparently. It sounds like Sony had a solution to make this work on their platform and Bethesda didn't like it.

Why would Bethesda take this away from us?
* Is also a fair question to ask.

Because it's something they promised? "hey sorry, we can't provide every mod due to licensing and hardware limitations, but everything that's not obstructed by that is available."

Adam Boyes leaves and the company starts falling apart smh

Not saying the whole company falling apart because of him, but thrid party relation is not looking good.
It takes a lot for Bathesda to throw Sony under the bus like this.

But they would have to do it because of the idiotic boundaries Sony has set up which is not the case for PC and Xbone.
I guess that there might be ways to do that, sure, but we also don't know what the conversation between both parties were - we only see the result.
In the end, it is just sad that people won't get mods for Bethesda games on PS4, no matter who is to blame in the end.

Huh, planned on getting fallout 4 complete on ps4 (if it ever came out) guess I'll just buy on Xbox. As well with skyrim.

Probably scared of security holes.
Papyrus is the scripting language fallout 4 uses and it is literally only used in bethesda games and cannot interact with anything else unless people modify other libraries (impossible on console).
Why would they allow/settle for a half-assed roster of less significant and/or tiny mods?
Because from a consumer point of view it's still better than nothing.

Idk maybe have a poll about it lol

Also I agree with Sg-17 (is it opposite day?) that even if Bethesda can't push all of the Bethesda.net mods through they should just concede and allow the smaller ones. It sucks but it is better than nothing imo.

That wouldn't solve the sound issue.
So it would be "mods that don't feature any new audio and within the 900mb limit".

Not sure I get what's with people being completely fine with being lied to about things lately. I guess if they don't care, it doesn't matter.

At this point even if you started posting lines of code and how the language works I think people still won't listen.

Wasn't that because PS3 only had 256mb of system RAM?

Also, don't try and pull the old GOW/ND card.
What they should have done was a port where the PS3 version of the game was a horrible pastiche of the proper version. Like when companies used to make DS versions of 360 games

Arrogant Sony is back

#4theplayers LOLOL

What's going over there?

Whelp I'm done with Sony
----

I can understand why people would be frustrated at some of Sony's decisions over the past few months. Most of them haven't affected me because I didn't care (even the 4k Blu ray playback, even though that's a stupid omission. What I don't understand is the people tossing around the phrase "arrogant Sony is back" every time something is done that they don't agree with. Everyone one of their decisions is really made out of arrogance? Do you actually know you're saying? Lol.
