Sony E3 2017 Conference Thread [Over]

The hyperbole in this thread is through the fucking roof. Maybe stop setting unrealistic expectations, and you won't be so disappointed? It was a solid show.

It wasn't a bad conference, but I don't know.

It leaves you with the feeling that it shouldn't have ended. It felt like it went by too fast. Probably the audio / technical problems didn't help either.

My mood after watching this:

lol yup...I was legit shocked when Shawn said last game. I was like no fucking way.

Hard to follow up 2 all-time classic E3s I guess :/

I genuinely feel this is the worst conference they have put together since they started telecasting them. People say 2006 was bad but in reality that showing was loaded with a bunch of fantastic megatons including two new Final Fantasy games. This was... Well nothing really. No embarassing moments because barely anyone spoke. They just showed trailers for a bunch of QTE fests snd cut the lights. Nothing to even talk about. A boring showing is far worse than one with goofy mistakes.

Kinda like a comedy routine you need the right crowd or even good bits fall flat. Just feel off not seeing anyone react to anything. Although, this is what PSX alliterates.

Wow, was relying on Sony to save this Conference but its up to nintendo now

Not even From Software showed up, or DMC5 or whatever.

Hell, even Ninokuni 2 was left in the dust. The excitement for this convention is dead this year.

I'm usually not one to complain, especially after last year, but that was pretty pathetic. Aside from God of War, Spiderman, Detroit, and SotC (all of which have no release date iirc), this was a let down for me.

They started off the show with two DLCs. That right there gave me a bad impression that they didn't have much to show off this year. Last time they opened up with the GoW reveal and continued delivering from there.

There were barely any indies shown this time and Sony has been good with those for the past few E3s. Those could have fleshed out the lack of new reveals.

No From Software, no Square stuff, and for Spiderman they just showed a scripted QTE-fest instead of showing city exploration and how the game mechanics worked.

Super underwhelming E3 overall this year compared to last year. I really hope Nintendo doesn't bullshit tomorrow.

I'm as averse to modern quasi-cinematic spectacle AAA design as anybody, but Spider-Man looked quite appealing as an Arkham clone with a slick, dynamic move set. It actually looked like a game, something I felt was missing from most of what was shown. The QTE segment late in the demo reel, not so much, but in a showing like this we don't get to experience any of branching or fail states (if applicable) that could make it more interactive.

Other than that, however, as someone who is decidedly not in Sony's core demographic, I definitely got the sense they were doubling down on the audience that is (and how successful they were at doing that, it's not my place to guess), without much to offer anyone who isn't on board already. To put it another way, Sony might be kicking Microsoft all around the block when it comes to big exclusives, but Microsoft was at least branching out with the likes of Cuphead and Ori, which interest me far more than any of their core IPs.

VR, meanwhile, just looks like a tech-demo wasteland. Perhaps videos don't do VR justice (I'm sure VR optimists would say), but looking at the footage that was shown in the PSVR segment, I just don't see what the interface adds or what new possibilities for design are being explored in the software.

Yes, if you haven't tried vr, none of what they showed will look appealing.

Until you try it, you have no idea how powerful vr experiences can be - even with PS2 graphics. Real life scale is a hell of a drug.

hard to impress us as we've seen all these games already. God of War, Days Gone and Spider man look fantastic, and likely day ones, but the hype just wasn't there. I knew last year was just too good, will be one of the best E3 for a while I think.

Although Sony does have Dreams, Sucker Punch game, and TLOU2.

This E3 just didn't bring the hype much..

Ironically, it's actually time to play the darn video games now as they are coming out lol...So I can't complaint too much. I'd much rather have amazing games to play than to be hype.

But yeah, overall lackluster E3 across the board. Stuff looks good, but the highlights and surprises are just few and far in between.

DBFZ
Shadow of the Colossus
Spider man
Bioware's game

Only time I stopped and said 'WOW" this entire e3 so far.
oh yeah

Where the Hell is Dreams?

I get Kohima and TLOU2 not being there but Dreams is bordering ridiculous

Unless Nintendo really pulls something out, I think Ubisoft might have won E3 this year with that BG&E2 CG trailer alone. Pretty weak year.

Pretty weak show. Last year's was much better. Disappointed that SotC is only a remaster, probably didn't help that my friends were adamant it was a remake only to find out it was a remaster. Kinda don't see the point in just doing a remaster seeing as it was already remastered for PS3, but that's just my opinion. God of War was probably my game of show. It looked awesome and I can't wait to play it. Detroit looks interesting but it's QD so I'm naturally sceptical. Spider-Man looks dope but knowing it was the last game of the conference and reflecting on how pretty shitty it had been soured me. I will need to watch it again with a fresher pair of eyes.

It's quite funny because I'm sitting here trying to think of the other games they showed and I can't lol. Goes to show how good the conference was haha. EDIT: Just remembered Lost Legacy and Days Gone. Both looked good, but I'm not that interested in Lost Legacy.

All in all, disappointing conference. I honestly enjoyed Microsoft's more, which is shocking for me. They showed Metro Exodus and Dragon Ball FighterZ and those are my top two games of E3 this year. The only game I'm dying to get my hands on is Crash and that was on the pre-show. Hope Sony can show something interesting at PSX, because after this E3 they really need to.

TL;DR: Not a fan of the conference, thought Sony last year and Microsoft this year were way better. God of War and Spider Man were the only things that impressed me. Hope Sony can do better at PSX. 6/10.

Yeah, uhm, this could seriously be Sony's worst E3 conference yet. Not one single wow-worthy surprise for me. I sat the alarm to wake me up 03:00 in the morning for this? Very disappointed. Has everyone already started focusing on PS5 development? Weird.

lol the hyperbole is real

anyone who saw Sony's 2006 or 2010 E3 would be saying this.

this was an okay conference. It wasn't awful by any means.

This was Sony's worst e3 conference in years. I've been pretty underwhelmed by this e3 in general.

Here's hoping Nintendo can salvage it

With what? The only thing that could make it awesome is Metroidi, and we all know that isn't happening. Discussing, Arms, Splatoon, 2, BOTW dlc, isn't breaking news.

Not bad, not great either.

Order of games shown could be better.

Early 2018 is stacked of PS4 exclusives. Nobody would want to fight giant multiplats in holiday 2017 anyway.

Honestly with how they did this conference they could have easily had their own Sony Direct. Really no need for a Conference other than for the extra hype it generates

Uhhhhhh?

Microsoft
Lucky the Fox (lol)
Sea of Thieves (PC)
Crackdown (PC)
Forza7 (PC)
Cuphead (PC)

Sony
God of War
Days gone By
Shadow of the Collosus
Uncharted Stand Alone
Spiderman
Detroit

People saying Microsoft's conference was better are straight up trolling.

Sony lineup is considerably better even if you disregard that all Xbox games are coming to PC.

I had no interest in the Uncharted game, but wow did that look awesome.

Probably the worst Sony conference in years, but still a ton of games I'm interested in.

I know we tend to make fun of excessive stage presentations, but if I went to E3, sat down at a main conference, and watched 60 minutes of trailers, with almost no announcements, I think I'd be pretty pissed.

I was hoping for more here, and not just in terms of length.

No Dreams or TLOU Part II, no word on Sucker Punch's new game, and no new Horizon/TLOU/Infamous/GoW type IP (that I saw). The Detroit: Become Human trailer was quite nice, and the Horizon Zero Dawn DLC looks quite nice too, but I can't help but wish there was more...
