Sony E3 2017 Conference Thread [Over]

7/10.

Really disappointed that there were no big surprises. Spider-Man looks amazing though. It's in my running for game of the show along with Dragonball Fighters and Anthem.

i wonder what sucker punch is working on. i got a PS4 when i did specifically to play second son but whilst i did enjoy the game, looking back now it was a bit of a disappointment. hopefully now that they aren't rushed for time trying to release something in a new console's launch window their new game will be a bit more fleshed out.

Preshow was a dumb idea. Whoever thought that was a good idea even if it's someone at the top needs to get stern criticism. There was zero upside to the preshow while it actively took away from their conference by showing shit that should have just been in the show.

yeah, that was an odd decision

It was rock bottom? Lmao

You didn't think it was interesting to see games like metro being unveiled? And all the other stuff like Black desert, Playerunknown's game, cuphead, ori, anthem or all the indie games? I don't care that these are 3rd party games, they add to the conference's entertainment level as a whole. To call it rock bottom is just hilarious to me and it kinda reeks of fanboyism and hate towards ms/ xbox.

Not arguing on the lack of MS 1st party announcements, they should've stepped up and so should sony have this year.

Metro unveil was extremely scripted almost on a tech demo level, Anthem was incredible that's true, but it was drowned in a sea of endless, unrecognizable and not interesting indies, it was soooo long and exhausting, I rather have it short and disappointing like Sony than to artificially prolong your conf with multiplats like MS did.

So no they didn't have a better show even if you only care about entertainment and you don't care about exclusives or added value you get as a platform holder.

Just my opinion but I feel that e3 as a whole has been underwhelming this year. Had a great last few years but it has all felt a bit flat. Don't know why

Y'all are witnessing the harsh realities of the AAA contraction my boy da Prophet Mark Rein talked about ages ago.

Sony's bread and butter may be polished, cinematic SP games, but they're AAA and expensive and can't be pumped out quickly.

If you think PS5 will somehow remedy this ...

... I have some bad news.

Thennnn why don't they focus on the Persona 5s and NieR Automatas of the world? It's not like Sony doesn't have options.

Monster Hunter actually looked really cool to me. Like they took Dragon's Dogma and Monster Hunter and crashed them together.

GOW/Spiderman looked awesome..Detroit looked better during its initial reveal. Definitely better than MS conference, but thats not saying much honestly. I do hope that they eventually have a stream of their E3 coverage like Nintendo does . Don't care for the corporate cheers after every sentence in MS conference, and I didn't care for the off camera stuff during Sony's(lol at the "zombies" hanging upside-down in the days gone trailer). See y'all next year

Haha this thread is why that thread about games being shown too early is not relevant, thats what gamers want or else everything is bad.

This was the honeymoon is over and we need to buckle down year conference. They showed games everyone are going to be playing, talking about and enjoying they just aren't newly revealed games so therefore people are acting like they are old news even though they aren't even out. It definitely wasn't an exciting show, but they did show games i'm actually interested and then on top of that fucking SoTC REmake!!! Spider-Man and Old Man Kratos look good to me too so i'm happy with realistic expectations for this year and early next year.

Next E3 is going to be the KH3, FF7RE, Shenmue 3, TLOU2, RDR2 blowouts and thats the most sensible approach because why keep showing games that you know damn well aren't coming out for more than a year? Wish we had some Japanese games or RPG announcements but those don't usually come from E3. Still kind of strange we didn't get anything about Ni No Kuni 2, its not like they were hurting for time. Oh well.

i give it a B- rating because of the SoTC surprise and Spider-Man gameplay. Nintendo is in a very good position to win the conference wars this year.

out of the ms conference i came out wanting to play Ori, Code Vein and Anthem

out of sony conference i came out wanting to play Days Gone, SoTC, GOW, Detroit, Destiny 2 and Spider-Man

overall tho, e3 was underwhelming this year and though there's more stuff in the sony conference that I want to personally play, MS conference had more games, and i make this assertion without knowing exact numbers but that's the impression i got, sony's felt short and that vr segment in the middle fucked up the pace for me

I think they did well by PSVR owners by dedicated a nice portion of the conference to VR games.

I reeally want a PSVR, just waiting for the right time... *cough* aka, when I got the ching-ching in my shling-fling, if you catch my drift... :P It is nice to see that it'll be well and alive when I dive into it hopefully by this winter..!!

I feel like this is the conference where Sony's early announcements came back to bite them in the ass. They've shown so many games 2-3 years in advance that now that the gen seems to be winding down, they don't have much left up their sleeve. GOW, Spiderman, and Days Gone didn't need to be announced last year, Last of Us 2 didn't need to be at PSX... But they announced them then because well, what else would they have announced that wasn't already? Also surprised there wasn't more third-party stuff to make up for it.

Maybe this was an off-year and they're going to gear up for shorter announcement windows in the future, I dunno. But uh, as far as a look into the near future goes, that was pretty myopic.

Yup, what I was trying to say.

Everything 'unannounced' is either cross-gen with PS5 or PS5 exclusive. The gen is winding down.

They really hung fake bodies from the ceiling, didn't they

Weird conference. Like watching an audience in a movie theater watch trailers. I get the minimum talk approach but a bit of developer humanity on stage can go a long way towards demos leaving an impression.

Lol they can't win.

They talk on stage and it pisses people off. They get off stage and it's not human enough.

Pretty good conference. No new announced games but everything they showed looked great. Excited for Lost Legacy, Frozen Wilds, God of War, and Spider-Man

The biggest surprise is no PS4 Pro price drop. That $499 Xbox One X price probably won't be as shocking to the average consumer now I'd guess.

Eh what?

Sony has not announced a price drop at e3 for years, you think a $499 console with not much, if at all, big reasons to get it at price would warrant a reaction like that?

They'll 'unofficially' cut the price by $50 this xmas sale, like retailers do at xmas, and then yeah the $150 difference is going to be shocking then.

Gotta say, as a HUGE History buff, im SUPER depressed seeing these Iron Crosses replacing the Swastika in COD WW2. As good as it looks, i think im gonna stay away. Its like replacing Batman's bat Symbol in INJUSTICE with a Raccoon symbol, would you feel like your fighting the "Batman"?!!! NOPE!!! Hurts as i have waited a LONG LONG time for this, guess im gonna have to wait a bit longer for a fully AUTHENTIC WW2 shooter.

Well, that was pretty underwhelming. It wasn't awful as a whole but too many known quantities plus lack of indie section; standout for me was probably Moss and the VR section in general. Days Gone and Detroit I enjoyed but Sony did not show much new and definitely lacked the wow factor from previous years. No From Software/Kojima/TLOU2 a disappointment. Spiderman isn't my cup of tea, was it just me or did the crowd seem to think the same... like, "Was that it?" expressions everywhere.

They should have just moved some of thier big pre show annocments over to the main show and there would have been a big boost. Relagting fucking GT and crash to the preshow was a mistake.

Why? The same people would just be complaining that they aren't surprise announcements.

Completely blown away here. MH, Colossus, Days Gone, Spider-man and people were disappointed? I for one loved this and am glad they didn't announce a bunch of 2025 releases like FF7R.

Lots of games with very nice graphics but nothing terribly exciting for me.

When a David Cage game is the one I'm most likely to end up buying, I know the gig's fucked.

Does Sony have any first party games this fall? Or major exclusives? Spider-Man is next year, right?

They have some console exclusives like Hellblade, Ni no Kuni 2 and Yakuza: Kiwami (English version at least) coming up this year. Also a bunch of VR stuff and GT: Sport.

Seems like they are pointing a lot of weight on Destiny 2 though.

Do people expect FF7 magnitude announcements every year ?

I like this E3 just fine.Better than a bunch of vapor ware BS like shenmue 3,FF7 and Death Stranding.

TLoU 2 and Miyazaki's game just arent ready...and thats totally fine...

How would Ubisoft win? The Mario Rabbids game was cool. Yet another AC game. Beyond Good and Evil 2 is god knows how far out from release. Just don't see how they would be considered the best conference?

Conferences are about two things:

1) - Spectacle
2) - Games

Ubisoft had a ton of spectacle in a pretty well put together conference.

Sony had the games, but pretty much all except the remaster were already known and shown last year. And the presentation itself was pretty limp.
