Sony E3 2017 Conference Thread [Over]

A console that's only selling to like 20% of consumers is probably not going to do that much murdering. I wouldn't be surprised if they left the price alone -- the whole purpose of a premium SKU is to make a hefty profit margin from enthusiasts.

Sony and Microsoft are still fighting over that 20% of consumers though. Sony might leave the price at $400, but after a full year out, they can afford to drop the price by $50 if they want. And bundling in games they've got co-marketing agreements on probably doesn't cost them much at all.

I think it's an off year. The biggest problem was that the past 2 years have been packed with announcements

But if you honestly think MS was better you should know they had even less surprises

Lets be honest Sony's biggest competition is Sony and Sony was only overshadowed this year by past Sony events.

Basically. People are judging based on past conferences. It was a solid conference IMO. Going forward, maybe they can do a pre-show for VR stuff and only big VR titles in the actual conference.

Really annoying for people to say VR is DOA before it cones out and then be mad at it still get stage presence support just half a year later.

Fuck off, shit is here to stay and this is how VR gets better.

Very good show. Only disappointment is the no show by Sucker Punch..i mean wtf is going on over there? It's been way way too long.

Lots of great games and the next year+ is gonna be stacked as fuck on the PS4. Not enough time or money.

God of War was AMAZING! and SOTC...not sure if I can handle to go through those emotions again.

Hey, so "The Inpatient" is clearly set in the same Sanitarium from Until Dawn. I think you even see the psychologists dead body in a hidden room in the original game. Also the time period could easily set it during the
wendigo outbreak from the miners

If you combined the pre show and conference Sony did pretty good.

Should have just put the VR stuff and some random garbage in the pre show. Everything else in the conference.

It's very hard to top last year and I'm not understanding why they can't show TLOU2

As strange as it may sound some of us are interested in the VR stuff and want more games announced and shown. I don't know why you would care anyway, it not like the VR stuff stole anything away from a lackluster showing.

Metro unveil was extremely scripted almost on a tech demo level, Anthem was incredible that's true, but it was drowned in a sea of endless, unrecognizable and not interesting indies, it was soooo long and exhausting, I rather have it short and disappointing like Sony than to artificially prolong your conf with multiplats like MS did.

So no they didn't have a better show even if you only care about entertainment and you don't care about exclusives or added value you get as a platform holder.

Ehhh ok, I couldn't disagree with you more. I think the Indie segment was great and showed different interesting games, which is something that sony was praised for in the past years. Sure they aren't (all) exclusive, but to say you'd rather have none of that is interesting. Especially since we wait for E3 the whole year.

Ofcourse i care about exclusives. I thought the Xbox exclusives were interesting and i look forward to games like State of Decay and Crackdown, likewise i think Spiderman looked great as well on Sony's side. But to disregard everything else beyond exclusives just seems silly to me. Sure, sony is winning on the first party front amongst the general consumers, no argument against that from me. But entertainment wise in terms of new interesting stuff being shown, MS had the better showing imo.

Just a mish mash of random trailers. Trailers from games we've already had a trailer on! And 10 minutes of PSVR stuff...

It's a tie with MS's E3 conference. Forgettable/10. Up to Nintendo to show MS and Sony how its done.

MS's had a better flow, but lacked the games.
Sony's had the games, but lacked the flow.
Nintendo will probably nail both.

It's not really about surprises for me but what's in the pipeline in terms of exclusives.

I would have liked to see SP's thing in particular. Unless it's in dev hell, it has to be almost finished, right? Their fellow first party launch devs (Guerrilla, Knack folks) have already/are releasing soon their new stuff. Really wondering what's going on over there. Will SS be their only PS4 game?

VR segment was excellent, but Superhot should have been saved for the show proper. Very happy with shown support though.

Lol they can't win.

They talk on stage and it pisses people off. They get off stage and it's not human enough.

I actually really like the "just show trailers" format, the problem is that it doesn't lend well to having a live audience. Cutting to a bunch of people staring blankly after every segment is awkward and kills the flow. If you want a live show, you need some degree of interaction, but then nobody gives a shit about all that talking so... hey, just pre-record an intro and sizzle reel of trailers, slap it on YouTube and there you have it. E3 solved!

(Not to mention you won't have bullshit like half the viewers having no audio.)

Okay so we are between 1 and 2. I'm already between 4 and 5.
Disappointed? Yes
My fault for hyping it? Yes
Was it bad? No
Was it bound to happen? Yep, last 2 years raised the bar high.
Was it maybe MS fault for actually not giving the best press conference known to man, which may have cause Sony to take stuff out and compromise? YES YES THATs Probably it!!!
Okay I'm at 3.

SOTC, Spider-Man, God of War, and Uncharted were cool. The rest I was kind of indifferent about, and the vast majority of the PSVR stuff they showed just looked bad to me. Just seemed like a lot of "2018" dates or no dates at all. I don't expect any surprises tomorrow at Nintendo's event, but at least I know I'll be playing those games this year. Hopefully. :)

Yeah so annoying. Yeah we get it some dont like VR and dont care and thats cool, i couldnt care less myself, but holy crap if Sony doesnt show anything people will just shit on them. Now they show stuff and its still bad?

Cant win no matter what you do

Only EA was worse than Sony's.
Two new games plus all stuff we already knew or nobody cares about... remember when E3 was about new games?

There's something kind of off putting about having zero people on stage. I mean I know we're all there for the games, but it's nice to see the humans and leads behind them from time to time. Maybe that's why my favorite moment in this whole e3 was seeing the lead on the Rabbids game crying at Miyamoto announcing his game. That passion sold me more than any trailer could.

"All of those games are 2018" neogaf alternative facts to the rescue

...lol almost everything MS showed and their "Console Launch Exclusives" are going to be on PS4 aswell.....

Don't forget that Sony also tends to announce games during other events besides E3.

my reaction when the conference was wrapping up:

seriosuly people thhat was a bad and poor showing. Next E3 is probably gonig to be the one to go to however this was lack luster, boring, and had Zero surprises other than Colusus but its a remake, great game but been there done that. My first time in the theatre this leaves a bad taste in my mouth. What a bad show for Sony, tehy should have kept GOW and Spidermand from last E3 to this one and even The last of Us Part II should have been announced at this conference.

There were a few pretty good standouts from all conferences this year overall:

Star Wars Battlefront II
A Way Out
Need for Speed Payback
Mario + Rabbids
Beyond Good and Evil 2
Anthem
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
The Last Night
Monster Hunter Worlds
Spiderman
Call of Duty WWII

But yeah, in terms of significant surprise announcements, it's been a huge let down. We knew about most games going in and there were very few wow moments. I hoped Sony would be different but they didn't really offer anything new either.

I want Nintendo to really impress tomorrow, but my hopes aren't up.

I didn't think it was the worst conference ever, but I do think it was weird that Sony had it played at theatres. I would've felt really slighted if I saw that at a theatre, as it was simply too short.

I would rate this 7/10. Spider-man was the best part followed closely by God of War.
Days Gone, SOTC and HZD DLC were great. I kinda expected more. Still leagues ahead of MS conference lol. That was a disaster.

Honest question - Why do people dislike Days Gone? I think it looks great! Like open world Uncharted :)

Other than that I though the conference was just OK. Although this is the first Spiderman game ever I actually care about. If it's open world and looks/plays like that it will be amazing!

YOU get a cinematic third-person action-adventure game! And YOU get a cinematic third-person action-adventure game! And YOUUU get a cinematic third-person action-adventure game!!!

Well shit...

I generally like third person action adventure games, but Sony has really flooded that market.

E3 isn't just for unannounced title announcements. Everything they showed was new, I don't see how us seeing a different trailer before is even a criticism

Well said. I don't care about exclusives. I just want interesting looking games. I think MS had more of those on their stage this year. Sony will obviously continue to crush it, but I find their first party stuff to be rather dull.

Will buy an X to sit alongside my Pro and not have to work about exclusives at all. :)

Couple of things...

Streams: I watched the Stream live on the bus on the way home, on YouTube gaming, and then read GAF when I got home. I can't believe so many people did not look for other streams but just complained about Twitch..heh. 2 seconds of no sounds and I would have been hunting for another option. Youtube gaming was perfect for me the entire time.

The Conference: I liked it, nothing blew me away but nothing made me say WTF. Most of the games LOOKED really good and that was a nice change from other conferences where I saw some iffy looking content. I actually would have liked a bit more from Sony peeps on future plans for Pro game upgrades or something. But can't complain about non-stop trailers. Also at least nearly every game showed gameplay along side all the CG stuff.

Reactions: Lots of love, lots of hate, as is the norm on GAF lol. Honestly though, with development cycles being what they are, what did people REALLY expect after the announcements the last couple of years? Can't always be a ton of new content, this shit comes in waves. Every 2-3 years there are the megatons.

I was happy overall, still waiting for my PS4 "Dark Souls Collection" to jump in on this gen ;)

Lots of temptation elsewhere though..heh.. maybe if the right bundle comes up soon, :)
