Even the $3.5 B is likely wrong. It's based on SteamSpy so far as I'm aware which is known to be inaccurate and depending on how low/high a tolerance you attach to it could vary up or down quite a bit accordingly.Just keep in mind, that the 3.5bn figure for steam sales is just games and does not include MTX revenue from DOTA or CS:GO
Unless you give a quote i don't believe someone said that.
But on the other hand people also said xbox one will fail to even sell 40 million LTD
Goal post moving time lol. What about engagement?
So this report only seems to have gaming revenue number for whole year.
I searched Google and found previous quarter revenue numbers. Is this calculation correct?
Q1+Q2+Q3: 330.4 + 319.9 + 617.7 = 1,268 billion yen.
FY2016: 1,649.8 billion yen.
Q4: 1,649.8 - 1,268 = 381.8 billion yen revenue for the gaming and network sector in Q4 alone.
= $3.43 billion.
Compared to MS's combined gaming revenue of $1.928 billion last quarter.
They don't need a price drop to sell like hot cakesThat has to imply a permanent price drop, hopefully to $199 because I want to get one this year. $199 BF bundle please.
GTS (probably), RDR2 (also Sony, unless delay), and imo they'll have 1+ other exclusive (imo GoW, and probably a family title, possibly Dreams, in Dec) and a $199 price + HZD bundlesJust this holiday season Sony has marketing, etc for
COD:WW2
Battlefront 2
Destiny 2
Absolutely crazy,
What other AAA's are around that window?
Likely to hit 100M after all?
I think that was pretty likely from the start.Likely to hit 100M after all?
Difficult to say since we haven't received numbers for a while now. I think ~30M would be the best guess though. For comparison, do we have even a rough estimate on what Xbox One LTD WW sales are anymore?

Steam revenues aren't really known is the bottom line. At best you can make estimates based on available data that is known to not be fully accurate so far as I can tell: so I think it's a mistake to take such estimates and compare them to publicly declared figures from other companies.
very likelyLikely to hit 100M after all?
Absolutely agreed.
If xbox 2 has full bc and ps5 doesn't, they are in deep shit.
XB2 will have 360, XB1, and XB2 games. That is really tempting.

no, they are not. Casual gamers don't buy new consoles to play old games.
Roughly 80m.Does anyone has any numbers about the worldwide sales of PS3 after PS4 arrived?
Eh, BC for the xbone had no significant impact on sales so who can say for sure.this statement would be true 10 or 15 years ago, but not anymore
guess what people play these days. 3, 5 or 7 years old games alone with some new
no BC would be a HUGE mistake for Sony, but they won't do that, because they're not that stupid

What sells console are new software... BC was never accounted for that and it did not help XB1 too.this statement would be true 10 or 15 years ago, but not anymore

That it did. Also, people were really sick of Gen 7 at that point as it resulted in record opening months for both Sony and MS.The release of PS4 really cut into sales of PS3 worldwide, huh?
i refuse to believe they are gonna be close to PS3's total after like 7 or 8 years by the end of next year. Its not happening.
Inconceivable. Its barely been 3 years and a few months. To get close to PS3 in this short a time period...ridiculous.
They predicted 18m for FY2017.Hooly mother of god.
They sold 20 million PS4's like they originally forecast for 2016?
Without Star Wars, Spider-man, RDR2, or Destiny 2?
Just...my god.
They are easily going to sell 20 million again for 2017.

They might actually sell more than 18 millions this year. They underestimate the potential of Spiderman, God of War, Gran Turismo, Crash, Destiny 2, Star Wars, COD WW2 (could be huge) and whatever else we don't know about combined with BF sales of games like Horizon...
Now where the fuck is Spider-man Sony
I can confidently say that because their 2016 report did not mention any increase in X1 hardware YOY. BC officially launched in November 2015.how can you say that?
do you know what the xbox one would have sold without BC?
do you know if people are now more or less invested and stuck in the ecosystem or not?
how do you measure that?
but we know is what games people play and buy.
and to say something like that is irrelevant is ridiculous
imagine you can't play Dota on Steam anymore
imagine you can't play Overwatch and RDR2 online on Ps5 anymore
sure people will love that
10 years ago single player games were the most sold and played ones
today it's long lasting multiplayer focused games you play for years over and over again because they're constantly updated
Well, they're forecasting 18 million, so maybe not. I think that probably signals they're maybe not going to be quite as aggressive with price drops as we expected, though.
As far as we know they're not launching new hardware though. If we're getting pricecuts I can see 20 million plus happen again as well.
how can you say that?

Am I missing something here seen it mentioned several times now.I forgot to add Gran Turismo, which is their biggest sales hitter in Europe.
If they didn't have Star Wars and Destiny 2, in almost the same quarter, I would as well agree that a forecast of 18 million would be the safest bet they can make as a company.
But they can't shoot that far when forecasting sales. They weren't expecting to ship 20 million in 2016, yet they sold that to customers.
The same scenario is likely to be repeated here.
Gran Turismo and Uncharted are also coming out. They are absolutely going all out.
Spider-man, Star Wars, Gran Turismo and Destiny 2 are way too big for PS4 not blow past 18 million.
I sincerely believe this is the year they peak.

First parties we have left confirmed for this year are
Uncharted LL
Everybody's golf
Knack 2
Wipeout omega
Gt sport
i've been arguing that since before it launched, which is why it baffles me why they even bothered. Atleast with MS, they are trying to get back the power crown so they can gain some advantages and marketshare, so it makes sense for them to launch an iterative machine. Pro still feels like an answer to a question that was not posed
I maintain that having BC helps but it isn't something that will significantly harm anything if it isn't there.
Knack 2 will sell more consoles than Destiny 2 + RDR 2 put together hehe
In all seriousness, with some improvements + co-op can it can actually become a fun couch/party game.
It's good that Sony isn't afraid to give it a second chance
Huh, they actually made it to 60M. Color me surprised.
Not even $4 billion? The age of Sony is done.
It was a joke about somebody else comment.Almost 4 billion just last quarter is just so nuts tho.
They brought in almost the same amount of profit MS got from Windows last quarter if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah, a good feather in the cap sort of thing but I don't think it is impacting anything on a more macro level. Like people suggesting Sony's market collapsing because of not having it.I'd say it can be a valuable bulletpoint during the launch of a new gen: "well d'oh I've got 50 PS4 games on my PSN account and 0 on my Xbox, I'll go with the PS5, as long as it isn't a piece of garbage compared to whatever MS offers"
"hmm I've got 50 PSN games and 0 Xbox, but I'll lose them all whatever console I buy next. Xbox is pretty good, cheaper than PS5 and they don't take your old games away, even better they'll look and perform better, I'll switch to the box!"
Imho PS5 has to be backwards compatible from the start, so that their customers don't even think about switching. It definitely isn't a vital feature, but I think it can be pretty valuable.
The original had coop. It was great fun.
It did? I was under the impression it was a brand new feature for the new game! My bad, had no idea (never played the full thing, just the demo).
It was a joke about somebody else comment.
To hardcore who play a lot of games and very often, it's really important, even a purchasing decision as you mentioned.BC is extremely overrated sales wise, and I personally love the feature, one of the main reasons I use my PC.
