Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
No Shingeki no Kyojin domain?
Not covering your bases Sony. Shame shame.

Oh wait, Attack on "THE" Titan. ... This sounds like they're attempting something different.

........

that would be so epic
bad
that i actually want it :D

Kill a titan? Titan explodes.
Human gets eaten? Human explodes.

Eren transforms?
Explosion.
Human transforms?
Explosion.

You know you
don't
want it.

Thank god, I was worried. I know anime fans don't have the greatest grasp on the English language, but the general American moviegoing public probably would have realized that "attack on titan" is a bit of nonsense.

They probably would've made the same assumption i did before knowing anything about it, Titan is a place and being attacked. In my case i thought it was a Human Colony on the Moon Titan being attacked... boy was i disappointed.

If its a movie then its already messed up, the political maneuvering its still gonna be a very prominent part of the show and it will be harder to capture in 2 hour movies where the titan killing will probably be the main focus.

That does bring that question to mind. Why the hell DID they decide on "Attack on Titan" for the English title? It sounds cool but given the context of the series, it doesn't make sense.

Probably for the upcoming Japanese films, but the AoT series is one of the few manga/anime series I think would work as a Hollywood film. Every character except for one is European, so no need to piss people off by whitewashing a cast that was originally all Japanaese. The show is pretty much attack of the giant zombies so it would be popular and Hollywood can actually bring the budget that an Attack on Titan movie would require. Get some MMA fighters to play the titans, and you got yourself a movie there.

It was like a night...mare
And it's pain for me

I'd be on board if they keep the soundtrack, focus on the incredible flying visuals, and ignore every single fucking thing that happened after the 13th episode

95% chance this will go completely wrong.

Well the manga went wrong pretty much right away, and the anime messed it up even sooner. I see no reason this will go any better.

Honestly, if they were to scrap everything besides the world design, some character back stories and premise, they could make a great movie of this series. Wouldn't be too hard to beat the original. I doubt they'd give the series the script the attention the premise deserves, but if they did it could be great.

Just pull a fucking Edge of Tomorrow/Big Hero 6 on it and gut everything but the basics. Attack On Titan will basically be the definition of squandered potential for me because of the creator's hate boner for despair and gore

American adaptations of Japanese anime SUCKS, they´ll invent something ridiculous like making the main characters transform into Titans or something.

Episode 1 of Attack on Titan is possibly the best episode of any anime. Certainly the best opening episode.

It actually is up there for me, along with episode 2. As a lover of giant monsters, I just dug the fuck outta those first two episodes. Loved the tone of it completely.

The problem for me isn't the hate porn. That can work if done right. It's the fact that the writer has no respect for his audience and constantly brings up interesting questions with no intention of answering them. Look how damn long he kept (or still is keeping, quit reading long ago) from getting to
the basement
. One of the big mysteries the series introduced and he constantly kept it seemingly "just around the corner" only to keep delaying it. That wouldn't be a game breaker if he didn't introduce a billion other, admittedly interesting, mysteries in the mean time. Every time he might have to actually answer a question he just goes "look over there, a distraction". Murders pacing and just makes the series an awful, plodding read.

This series is basically perfect for the Edge of Tomorrow treatment, as you pointed out.

IDK with all these teen apocalypse type movies combined with the zombie popularity I'd give it a better shot than MGS.

Still, Hollywood has so little experience with anime adaptations. The very few that have happened flopped hard - in comparison, games have a shining track record. At least a few of those made money.

I agree that this could be sold as a YA franchise though. Which would probably go over swimmingly with the original fanbase.

Most of that happens anyway. Attack on Titan is just dumb fun. There might have been some interesting plot locked in the basement but we aren't ever getting there so all that's left is crazy giant gore and massive collateral damage.

Well

uh, things have changed recently in the world of SNK. Let's just say that.
You want bombs dropped? because shit, dude, it's the nuclear fucking apocalypse over here. Questions are being answered (mostly by new questions but still.) Things are moving forward in some pretty crazy ways

even that thing you mentioned is (finally!) being addressed maybe kind of who knows

Ufufufufufufufufufu.

Is it possible that they're releasing the recent Japanese live action flick and just retranslating the name to make it more palpable for western moviegoers? It wouldn't be the first time, in any case.

This is a fairly accurate representation of Attack on Titan....and the best live action anime/manga films and inspired films have been Western made. Scott Pilgrim, Edge of Tomorrow, Speed Racer, Kill Bill Vol. 1, Pacific Rim.

Compared to crap like live action Death Note, western "live action anime" movies are some colossal steps ahead of Japanese films.
