Excited to see what SP has been cooking up.
Hope the next title is what Horizon is to GG.
You people are sleeping on Nomura. Dude put on weight recently but he looks damn good for his ageI swear Ueda looks at least ten years younger than his actual age.
Big Boss Kaz needs to pull some strings at Sony Pictures to get Kevin Costner in Death Stranding.
Still no hints that any of these studios are going to make my dream come true with a socom announcement then?
But yeah, Kojima seriously looks like he hasn't aged at all in the last decade lol. Remember how young Kaz looked before PS3 gen? That probably took years off his life poor guy.

You guys think Sucker Punch will make another Infamous or a new IP? They've been MIA for almost 3 years.

With Socom, I think the boat has sailed. R6: Siege is a good example of probably how you'd want to execute such a game. You need to have it out early in the gen, make it a games as a service type of deal and have it be continuously updated and pushed throughout the entire gen. It needs to be an evergreen title that comes out early, with an appropriate long term micro-transaction model and keeps that base engaged for the entirety of that gen's lifespan.
Even Siege, if you look at sales numbers, didn't open very high. It only sold about 800k in it's opening month of NPD. That's a multiplat title. That doesn't indicate a soaring interest in heavy team-based, tactical shooters. What really did wonders for that game was a strong WoM and great legs. It built upon those initial sales and continued to peak in players a year later. Socom, if you announce it this year for example and it releases in 2018, simply does not have that benefit. It's constrained to a single platform with a PS5 around the horizon.
So I think if you make another Socom, you forget the PS4 entirely. Rather, you aim for a release in year 2 or year 3 of PS5 as a fully games as a service type deal.
I think Sony is just content with letting the other publishers fight for the MP Shooter mindshare going on right now. Their shooter is Destiny for the most part.
I would still be there day 1 for a reboot of Socom, Resistance or even another Warhawk but it wouldnt suprise me if they feel that the MP Shooter genre is well taken care of by other games at this point.
Siege might end up being just lightning in a bottle for Ubisoft. It should have failed for so many reasons but they just absolutely nailed the gameplay and there is nothing like it out there (especially on consoles). It definitely hooked me more than any other MP focused game ever has.

Btw, I just noticed MatterFall is spelled Materfall in the OP xD
While I think there's a gap in the market for a high-quality tactical shooter from one of the major publishers I just don't see Sony trying with Socom again, as they've pretty much given up with shooting games, unless it happens to be an aspect of an action-adventure.
Which is a shame, because I think a good co-op third-person shooter taking place in large levels could be awesome. Like Ghost Recon Wildlands except much smaller in scale and, y'know, not crap. Io Interactive could do a good job with this, but I really can't think of many other devs who specialise in this kind of game design. It'd also need to have solid multiplayer as well.

Wow, Trigger. That was some nice prose back there
Jesus. He looks amazing for that age. What's his secret?
goddamn....Hideo Kojima must be really a cool dude as he seems to be friends of literally everyone (except Konami suits that is)...
From Hollywood personalities (del toro, norman reedus, JJ Abrams, etc etc) to the big brass of game publishers. Now even CEO of Main Sony group is chilling with Kojima.
I would absolutely LOVE a return of SOCOM. Unfortunately I think you guys are right they seem inclined to let third party's fight over the online shooter spoils. The only chance would be if they see seige success and go after that.
Yea, I agree with you. I think it's the smarter play to let big publishers do FPS just because it's such a competitive field year in and year out.

I understand where you all are coming from and that they are focusing on third parties and exclusive marketing. But I don't think any of that really precludes them from giving socom another shot. It was their flagship shooter and I see it as not really competing with those other mainstream shooters. I see it more in the light of a Bloodborne for example, where it goes for hardcore audience by providing a unique tactical experience for that specific core audience. It's the gen of dreams so I won't give up yet! Well atleast not for another month

Single player baby!! The way I like it. Meanwhile I was on fb and a video titled the zombie game you've been waiting for and it had like 17 mil viewsIf Days Gone doesn't have MP or co-op as a mode, huge missed opportunity.

Eh idk I feel like days gone, horizon are gonna establish themselves first before that in the same way uncharted didI want a single player focused game for sure. But not having an MP mode or a coop mode with the feature set they're touting?
Huge missed opportunity. Dynamic weather, zombie hordes with Left 4 Dead style survival coop?
That sounds like best selling Sony game material to me.
It sounds like a way to further complicate what should already be a huge undertaking for Bend. They are a small team working on their first console game in years and it is a new IP that is open world.I want a single player focused game for sure. Yeah would be nice. If this is successful I can see this in the sequel perhapsI want a single player focused game for sure. But not having an MP mode or a coop mode with the feature set they're touting?

Just like Horizon, they need to get things established first and then build upon it from there.
Yea they didI'm sure Sony Ben already confirmed Days Gone won't feature a MP

Bend are a vastly under used studio. But make no mistake, their lack of quantity with staff is majorly made up with quantity.

I'm in the single player camp too. I like multi but some games are better off without it imo.
One of the main reasons I like Sony first party is the epic single player content.

Exactly, the setting is quite unique all they need to focus on is to have great gameplay mechanics to avoid it becoming something like Order 1886. Don't know why people start comparing it with TLOU every now n then...other than post-apocalyptic settings, there is not much similarity....the way zombies are handled here is quite different too and the main character is not taking care of some child here(at least till now)...Same here.
But, as someone's said before, Sony Bend needs to focus first in main goals: gameplay and story/quests. As in Horizon, if that works, the rest will work wonders because the setting is perfect : a biker, an open world, hordes of zombies...
Meh, I like SP as much as the next guy but there comes a point where a certain genre and feature set pretty much begs for MP. Zombie games, with big hordes and a ton of dynamic features? Yea, that's one I'd like to play with a buddy.
And it also makes said game a much easier sell. It's much, much easier for Days Gone to be a commercial success with a basic survival co-op mode via the likes of Twitch rather than having to convince every buyer on the merits of an SP campaign.
But whatever. There's other games to fill the gap like State of Decay 2 and later TLOU II.
