Sony's used game tutorial viral video passes 12M views on YouTube

I still don't understand everyone's reactions to this, since there are many DRM clients, such as Steam, which do not allow any lending or selling of purchased games, where as the Xbox One does...

Plus no one complains about games bought from PSN/XBLA not being able to be sold/lent out, where as the Xbox One fixes that...

Its a simple, understandable joke that even people wholly ignorant of the video game industry can laugh at. Which is way its so terribly effective against Microsoft. Also see Lewis Black comparing it to Nazism on the Daily Show.

Steam isn't a platform, it's a digital store/library. You're not forced to use it to game on Windows.

That's not true, you can have two people play PSN games at once already.

Why do people keep comparing digital with physical content.

This is pretty incredible and should be commended on its impecable timing. Other than Mattrick's "if you dont have internet, get a 360" comment, has Microsoft tried to mitigate the ongoing negative press on the Xbox One?

Please stop with the steam comparisons. It has been explained to death so go search and enlighten yourself.

How far you've come, Sony marketing.

I dare them to air the sharing vid on TV. It might be iffy without context, but still.

They could always alter it a little to make sense. I want them to slam MS. Full on smear campaign.

People like to overreact. It also doesn't help that there are ton of misconceptions about the console. Give it time, and people will come around.

Actually amazing how big the views are on that channel

It mocks how complicated the process is on the xbone compared to ps4. The fact that people are still trying to figure out how it will work says it all.

Great ad, this is what happens when you get the suit and tie corporate agents out of the damn way.
PlayStation is literally trolling Xbox.
Never thought I would see the day.

Now we need a 'shop of a guy in a nuclear submarine playing on a ps4 with the caption, "How to play a PS4 on a nuclear submarine".

Large corporations have yet to grasp how profound the internet's ability to detect bullshit is. Valve and Sony's straight talking and joke making resonate perfectly with their intended audience. MS and Nintendo both need to step it up and drop the hard sell crap.

Nintendo has been following a hard sell strategy?

Hell no. Their lacking inability to hard sell to both consumers and game developers is one of their biggest flaws.

People complained a lot during the early years of Steam. We stopped complaining once they got competitve with frequent steam sales.

That's your response right there Microsoft.
So that Microsoft Engineer who posted anonymously said Microsoft are pushing for a digital future as it brings back money to the publishers and developers. This in turn means cheaper games for the consumers.

How exactly is sharing one game with ten people going to help any of that?

That's 10 potentials copies reduced to 1!

Steam has plenty of competition, though. If you're PC gaming, you have plenty of choice for where to get your games and some of those are completely DRM free. Greenmangaming (which allows you to trade-in non-Steam games), Origin, GOG, Humble Bundle, etc. Steam sales and a much better offline mode than 24 hour check-ins help too.

The Xbone, however, is a closed platform with no competition.

Wasn't that debunked as bullshit? But yeah, it does fly in the face of the helping out the publishers thing.

Its a shame about Nintendo - with Wii U it appeals neither to my hardcore gamer nor casual gamer side.

As much as I detest MS' approach with the One and am going for PS4, I can at least appreciate the games if I were willing to put up with the endless list of crap attached

Great ad!

Now they should make another one explaining how amazing and pro-consumer it is having to pay for a service that was previously free, like online multiplayer.

That's what I was thinking. Example, five friends buy one game together and share it. How does that help publishers? I've seen comments by people saying, "I'm getting Xbone because my friends and I can buy a game together and share it."

Please stop posting regarding anything about Steam it is not the same. Really this is getting so damn annoying.

Right, and what about retail purchases? Why are they treated the same as DD services?

lol, ok, I'm done here.

So i've been reading up on some interviews and what seems to be the case is that yes you can share a game with 9 other people but you can't use the online component as a lender nor can you simultaneously play the same game. Futhermore games that require an always-on connection (Destiny for example) can't be shared.

note: this is my interpretation of the info given.

That might have been a poor choice of words. I just mean a kind of arrogant stonewalling in interviews. The Reggie interview on GTTV, and whoever was interviewed by Patrick from Giantbomb were both really terrible.

I'm pretty cynical when it comes to PR, I don't think Sony or Valve actually care any more about the audience than the other two, they just think being honest and cheeky is more effective PR, and I think they're right.

Of course Reggie and Mattrick are absolutely capable of doing the same thing, they're just subject to an alternative PR direction, and it's one that is counter to what that 'core' gaming audience wants I think.

There are issues with the platforms, all three, but I think the greater issue in MS's case is that they're viewed as being dicks about it.

Don't take this the wrong way, but this has been discussed and debunked in hundreds of threads all week.

In short: physical discs are the topic, not digital titles.

There is a reason MILLIONS of people are angry at Microsoft and aren't enthused about the sharing yet until they know more about how it will work. Either they're all stupid and they don't see how it's just like Steam-but-better... or (the more likely answer) people wanna see the receipts right now.

Sony also has digital sharing in addition to Disc based sharing with no restrictions. I don't think Microsoft really wants people getting too detailed about it's sharing strategy anyway- they've been very vague about how it actually works since the reveal.

No its not. It'll backfire horribly once the console comes out and we learn the giant BUT to the claim.

There is already a BUT. "But you can't play it simultaneously with the other 10 people".

Many People wouldn't each put in however much (6$ or whatever) to only be able to play it when other people aren't. Not to mention the MP crowd not being able to play if other people are.

Of course, there might be even more 'buts' to this that haven't been revealed but it's already a bit of a mine field (and a great way to cost friendships :P - I mean everyone who puts some money towards it will feel like they are the owners and thus fights could happen)

everyone seems to mention steam when talking about xbone, but the fact is pc gamers arent forced to use it pc gamers dont have to use steam at all and there is plenty of other options avaliable to you which dont involve drm or if u do use steam u can just play it offline anyway., where as if you wanna play a xbone game u are forced to use there drm and other crap.

i was hanging out with my friends who i'd say are fairly normal people, spend more time working or partying and rarely any time on the internet. and they wanted to show me this video. i would have never seen something like this coming earlier in the year. turning such an absolutely mundane thing (that people are historically used to) into a highly successful advertisement.

I never noticed this, any details on this multi not free anymore?

They announced Online multiplayer on PS4 as being a benefit of Playstation+, it was very cleverly worded and timed to cause the least commotion.

Apparently SOE's f2p titles (Planetside 2 and the other one) do not require PS+, so some games might be allowed to opt out of it.

And I still don't understand why people defending this POS keep comparing it to Steam when it's fucking apples and oranges.

The xbox side missed a few underlying facts, like only 1 person can play at a time, not region-free, and friends must be on your friends list for at least 30 days. But hey, that's too much to put in a 10 second ad.
