I am thoroughly convinced that quarter of the gaf don't know what "on rails" video game is and another quarter use this term incorrectly despite knowing the correct meaning, which is even worse than former.
Most of GAF has no idea how to use terms like 'generic' and 'uninspired', too, so you're probably right.

Niiiice, well deserved.

Is that Captain America?

Install base matters... but games matter more. A highly desirable game will move systems to at least, that will break down a lot of walls in the natural cost-of-entry for exclusive games attached to systems that most people don't own.

The best selling games on WiiU had a 40-60% attach rate. That kind of attach rate, even on a platform with less than 15 million install base means games there reach a level of sales that come close to the best selling exclusives on any Sony/Xbox platform ever.

It would be hardly surprising for any Nintendo first-party on Switch to do extremely well. The tentpole Nintendo franchises has been historically successful; regardless of platform.

Any game can have Spidey flailing around at baddies as they come in waves. But I love how cinematic and true to character this looks while being fully controllable with the freedom you get from those mashy games that are for whatever reason considered "real" gameplay.

And as far as the QTEs during the scripted swinging segments... that's a much more ideal scenario than having the same static faraway camera in past Spidey games with little fanfare during story mission chases.

How about instead of defining what is and isn't real gameplay, how about we look at old-school games that also broke up the status quo by throwing in things like actual on rails minecarts or surf boards or shopping carts or enemy-less rooms to collect coins, sometimes timed etc.

I've said this before, but I'm glad I'm getting a game that more closely resembles how I used to play with action figures (with slo-mo, epic shots, and choreographed action) instead of just setting up toys and wiggling my favorite figure through them haphazardly.

Spiderman gameplay looks as boring \

graphics are not impressive

animation are weird

combat looks terrible and unsatisfying

too much QTE, which means the game is too scripted for an "open world" game

how the hell did people liked this game's trailer ?? is it because of Marvel X sony ?

game of the show is obviously either Mario or Monster Hunter, my personal game of the show is The evil within 2 but they haven't showed that much

mario won't sell any higher than spiderman anyway even on 100% attach rate especially with how popular spiderman will be leading to release. Avengers and Homecoming are free advertisements.

I thought this was a parody post until I realized there wasn't a "not" in your "how the hell" question.

I'm looking forward to both, and both are probably day 1 purchases. But I will say the QTEs did sour my excitement for Spiderman a bit.

What the fudge is this? I honestly can't tell with some of you.

Spider-Man is a massively popular IP but I think some of you are discounting how hard it is to the kind of numbers a 3d Mario is capable of doing. Only three game series in the history of PlayStation consoles have sold more than ten million: Grand Theft Auto and Gran Turismo. The most recent number I could find for Mario Galaxy, for example, is 12.75 million. You're asking for a lot, even for an AAA Spider-Man game. "Free advertising" from movies won't help it as much as you think it will.

Edit - I believe the Call of Duty series has had entries that sold over 10 million as well.

Nevermind I'm wrong

Are you part of the shallow majority?

The gameplay in Spider-Man looks prehistoric?

The combat gameplay is inspired by the FreeFlow system found in the Arkham games.

Big set pieces might have your odd QTE, but who cares when it looks so fudging good.

That was one of the more snobby/salty/passive aggressive post in this thread.

And it is down right embarrassing to read some of these post over an innocuous fan award.

Like a lot of the discussion is along the line of cons0le warZ bullshit.

This is coming from a Day 1 Switch owner who's hyped as fuck for SMO, and who is also of the opinion that SMO will probably be the better game (could be wrong).

But as a huge fan of Spidey, I can't help but feel immense excitement when I hear or see anything about this Spider-Man game. Insomniac, if you're reading any of this garbage thread, you are doing the Lord's work, keep it up.

Can I interest you in a 1 way trip to Japan good sir?

I missed the part where it's releasing during the marketing campaign for Homecoming since it isn't and you assume it will be good which it may not (I'm referring to homecoming here as I've Zero faith in Sony's ability to handle the movie property properly given the last 3 stinkers they put out and this Spider-Man cinematic universe bullshit that seems to have even caught Kevin Fiege off guard).

You're making assumptions about Spider-Man's role in Infinity War, which you have no idea about, as well as release date assumptions. Infinity War is out in May. Spider-Man may well not be.

the crazy thing is if the salty folks were reading the GAF Award thread, they'd see Spidey at #3, so even here it's pretty high up.

Mario looks awesome, it's a honor to be in that kind of running with it, whether it's narrowly winning in IGN's Reader's Choice, or narrowly losing their Editor's Choice.

We're going to make an awesome Spider-Man game and we've just scratched the surface so far, I can't wait for you to see more. I also loved playing Mario at E3 and cannot wait for October 27th when that game shows up and I just disappear with my Switch all weekend.

you missed the part where any of that even matters. The fact is spider man is getting more exposure and that's free.

Orange-man.

They couldn't be bothered to make his suit red? Why'd they have to fuck up so hard on the most important part of his branding.

To be fair. Mario is also getting lots of Exposure lately.

I mean. Why discuss sales anyways. Their both gotta sale megaton of copies (maybe both can reach that 10 million goal LTD). I'm just hoping these games live up to their potential.

Cant wait to see more of the game.

Yo jsteve.

Don't mind the high sodium haters man. Congrats to you and your team for building something so exciting; it's personally at the top of my list and I can't wait to play it. I have faith in you bunch. Well deserved.

Brand image matters. If ASM 2 hadn't damaged the hell out of the brand this wouldn't even be happening.
Civil War largely erased ASM 2 from people's memory. Everybody who follows spidey knows Spiderman got rebooted.

They are both gonna sell lots. Mario has a larger chance of living to potential since I've never seen a Mario game fail at what it's intended to do. Spiderman's got the lower chance but coming from Ratchet and Sunset Overdrive we know the gameplay department is gonna be good. The narrative and dialogue is what's concerning since both previous Insomniac games seems to falter there.

Looking forward to seeing more of the game in the future, I'd love to see it at PSX this December!

Right there with you on everything.

This wait is gonna kill me.

Save us Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Humans are tribal af.

You can't change that but you can take advantage of it to predict trends and make money from it.

This is also why I don't expect equality from privileged people, by that I include where you're from and not just what you represent.

Game looks great besides the qtes, something that needs to die. I'm glad GoW is getting rid of that.

Well, I'm not entirely sold on the web swinging just yet. I'd like it to be a little more fluid ...

IP recognition install base has everything to do with sales.

Somebody's grandmother that doesn't even own a PS4 or a Nintendo Switch isn't going to go out and buy Spider-Man or Mario Odyssey. You generally have to own the console to buy the game and the PlayStation 4 and Playstation 4 Pro have a much larger install base than the Nintendo Switch. There's no salt in that, those are just the facts.

Thank you for your dignified response.

We are all looking forward to Spider-Man and I can't wait to see what you guys reveal next!

It doesn't matter who wins or loses between these two IP's - I'm buying both, so people like me win either way.

Also, if you put real-time weather and day and night transitions into Spider-Man, you will have the GOAT superhero game :)

Wish you and the rest of the people at Insomniac the best with the game! I can't wait to see more of the game, whenever that is, and, eventually, play it.
