They should have chose a real game, not more super hero comic star garbage for the millionth time. How many more garbage marvel/Bateman/superspiderman/ other junk do we have to play? Just stop already, no one wants them

lmao this has pasta potential

The hero of New York City vs The hero of New Donk City

The greatest gladiator match in history

honestly, I'm genuinely surprised this game isn't the most talked about game of e3. I'm a big fan of Mario and God of War, and while I'm excited for this game, I'm not really caught up in the hype. But in my circle none of that other shit got the kind of intense immediate reaction the Spider-man footage saw. This game looks like an interactive Spider-man movie. People are gonna want that, and they aren't gonna care about the occasional QTE.

Nice sneaky bait

Where's the idea that this game will outsell Mario coming from?

Mario seems much more popular according to youtube views. Mario's E3 2017 trailer received 11 million views in comparison to Spiderman's 600 thousand.

Install base is not the sole determinant of a game's selling potential.

Lol at the bitterness in this thread. Mario looks fantastic but there was nothing about Odyssey that made it look like it was significantly beyond what Sony and the third parties had for E3 this year.

Like Spider-Man, what pushes Mario's public interest beyond games of the same caliber like God of War, Anthem and DBZ is simply the nostalgia factor (GoW and DBZ have been around for a while but not nearly as long as Spidey and Mario). Nothing hypes up the public more than a well sustained, long standing IP that reminds older fans of their childhood while still looking appealing and "cool" to the newer/younger fans.

Whatever happened to the gaming press having some variety with their own best of E3 and GOTY picks? It just seems like 2-3 outlets pick the same game and then the rest just follow the trend to be safe or something. GoW, DBZ, Anthem and few other standouts really deserved at least a few best of E3 wins too.

It's an automatic win if you have either a Zelda or Mario game at your e3.

Last I checked Spider-Man was at 21 million views and Mario was at 12 Million views. I think there's a thread on gaf keeping track of this.

Something tells me you're the one who'll be bitter when it easily outscores and outsells (at least a large number) of everything else shown

Spider-Man is like, the biggest super hero IP ever. I would not be surprised if Spider-Man outsould Odyssey, especially given the PS4's install base.

What I don't understand is why people want to even make it a contest. Like when people kept comparing Horizon and Zelda, saying things like "I'm gonna laugh if Horizon gets a higher metascore" and whatnot.

Both games look great, although they're not gonna be to everyone's tastes. Some people just want to be salty while others want to manufacture salt.

Why does Spiderman keep winning E3 awards for this year?

Was there another better demo that was released other than the one shown at Sony's conference?

I've played pretty much all the Spiderman games after 2 (barring the AMSM games). I dont think this showing was particularly impressive. It seemed to be a different take on Arkham combat with more contextual choices. And other than that there were a ton of boring looking QTEs (when even arkham games had very few QTEs outside of combat).

Now I'm not under the impression that the game will be all arena fights and QTEs but they didn't show any of the open world gameplay (besides a few seconds that he chases the helicopter), which are the MOST important part of any spiderman game as far as I'm concerned.

It just seems like it's gotten a lot of praise despite not showing it's best parts. Unless there was an open world demo I didn't see.

Visually it looks fantastic.

However, the gameplay looked really meh. I mean its good that they went with Arkham combat but man does it look simplistic as fuck. It also doesn't help the entire demo was QTE. The mainstream audience will eat it up unless it ends up being bad. I guess that's what matters.

Dragon Ball Z Fighter looked more impressive tbh.

really now? The whole demo was QTE's?

It seems unfair to be talking GOTY for this game so early. We won't know what it's going to lose to until Nintendo confirms if Metroid Prime 4 is a 2018 release or not.

Will it really though? Spidey has just as much nostalgia and public interest (look at the thread title) behind it to match or exceed Mario sales and/or reviews. PS4 also has a much larger install base than the Switch could possibly have by this fall or really even by the end of 2018.

It would light a fire under Sony's ass if Mario did somehow manage to outsell and outreview Spider-Man and thirsty competitors in the gaming space always make the industry more interesting so I certainly wouldn't be bitter either way.

No one is doubting Spider-Man's popularity as an IP in general but that alone doesn't guarantee it will outsell Odyssey. Spider-Man is not a bigger IP in the gaming world and theres zero precedent for a Spider-Man video game outselling a 3D Mario from what I can tell. The PS4's install base matters but I don't know if that will make a huge difference if we are talking about lifetime sales. Furthermore I would expect a higher attach rate for Odyssey.

Spider-Man will sell a ton and probably be a great game (I'm excited for it and put it at #2 on my E3 list), but I can't say I think it will surpass Odyssey in sales at this point and I'm baffled at some posters' confidence that it will.

spider man has a chance to be the best selling exclusive for the PS4

it'll sell to the sony faithful and it'll also sell to the casual audience in a way that their other exclusives might not

I felt that anthem was The best looking game out of everything shown recently. Didnt feel that way about spiderman all though i cant thing of anything closer. Gave that feel from horizon and destiny combined. Was taking a rest from gaming for the last year or so as i was begining to feel jaded. And anthem really made me feel hyped for a game again. Now im really looking forward to other games too.

Nah, don't expect Spider-Man to have better review scores than Mario. Even the crappy Mario games have a 90+ metascore. I'm looking at you Sunshine.

He also has the best promotional machine you can get, with several series in comics, animated shows...over 50 years of accolades and adoration, and an actual movie catalogue.... with a new most anticipated one about drop.

I could see in terms of sales but reviews I don't think so.

I mean we are talking about one of the best developers out there making a 3D sandbox Mario game.

The "most important" parts, the swinging and the combat looked good though

The graphics looked great and the setpiece was really cool. It's what everyone who wanted AAA Spider-Man, wanted.
