lol, is Spider-Man vs Mario gonna be a thing now?

I remember how the Horizon v Zelda thing started as a joke and then there were bitter fanboy fights all the way from the release of both games to the sales thread following it. Hopefully Spider-Man vs Mario dies with this thread.

Nah, don't expect Spider-Man to have better review scores than Mario. Even the crappy Mario games have a 90+ metascore. I'm looking at you Sunshine.
True, Mario always kills it on reviews and Odyssey is likely to outscore Spider-Man. But Mario topping every other game at E3 in sales AND reviews? The sales side seems to be more in Spidey's favor.

I agree, but Mario changes it up because he throws hats at shit now. I can see this one going on for a while.

I can't say I've been all that impressed with this game. Looked way too Arkham for my taste in both combat and traversal. Like actually swinging looked alright but the running on walls and quick dash just looked like it almost took away any reason to swing other than you like to. Maybe a different demo might show it off better to me but as for now I don't really see it.

The majority of gamers are shallow. What's more pretty to look at Spiderman's well sculpted butt or a short cartoony plumber with facial hair? Compared to the prehistoric Mario Odyssey, Spiderman looks amazing. Sure the gameplay in Spiderman looks prehistoric, but that's not the point.

It's not surprising, Spiderman is going to be huge. The graphics, sound, and presentation were so out of this world that it almost made up for the heavily QTE-inspired gameplay.

Will it really though? Spidey has just as much nostalgia and public interest (look at the thread title) behind it to match or exceed Mario sales and/or reviews. PS4 also has a much larger install base than the Switch could possibly have by this fall or really even by the end of 2018.

It would light a fire under Sony's ass if Mario did somehow manage to outsell and outreview Spider-Man and thirsty competitors in the gaming space always make the industry more interesting so I certainly wouldn't be bitter either way.

Spider-man might outsell it because Mario 3D don't sell that much to begin with (still 10 million that is big). But the next 2D Mario and Mario Kart should have no problem being the highest selling exclusives of this gen.

Gow has a very good shot actually.

GoW vs Spidey vs Red Dead 2 for GOTY is gonna be brutal.

Did not see that coming. Congrats Insomniac.

Just being real here, but Super Mario Odyssey is going to deliver 90% of the same experiences you've had from any other 3D Mario title. The hat throwing mechanic and being able to turn into what the hat touches is new to the series, but I sincerely hope that's not the only hat-trick this game has going for it.

I'm excited to play Super Mario Odyssey, but that excitement is more like a lukewarm level of anticipation coupled with nostalgia. I feel like it's just going to be a prettier, higher-resolution Super Mario 64 with a couple of new features and options, to be honest.

I'm far more excited for Spider-Man because there's only been a small handful - if only one or two decent Spider-Man games made yet, but never an unbelievably perfect Spider-Man game. From the looks of it, Insomniac Games might actually finally deliver that insanely amazing, perfect Spider-Man game and when the reviews hit, if it receives near-perfect or perfect scores, everyone will want to play this game.

It will sell better than Super Mario Odyssey both due to popularity and the PS4 install base at that point. Even if the reviews aren't overly positive, it will probably still outsell Super Mario Odyssey due to the PS4 install base.

Both wear red & blue, both beat up reptiles, both have had TERRIBLE movies made...

Yeah, I can dig this rivalry.

I could see it being a toss up when it comes to sales, considering how big Spiderman is and the Switch's userbase when Mario is released (although they're always evergreen titles). In terms of reviews I can't see Spiderman doing better. No chance

Are you part of the shallow majority?

The gameplay in Spider-Man looks prehistoric?

The combat gameplay is inspired by the FreeFlow system found in the Arkham games.

Big set pieces might have your odd QTE, but who cares when it looks so fudging good.

Game looks fun, I just hope that we can change that spidey suit asap when we get into the game and aren't forced to wear that thing for long.

White spider totally kills it for me, give us a more iconic older suit design with a black spider.

I don't think we can say the combat is "Arkham" until we get impressions or play it ourselves

There seems to be way more verticality here than in Arkham and bouncing from enemy to enemy isn't something Batman invented

This honestly could have been the most hype game but the trailer qte made me feel otherwise. I hope the released game proves otherwise. I believe in Insomniac.

Yes, at first.
But then people are quick to forget Nintendo games legs that last for several years.

Plus there is no point in comparing 2 wildly different audience, we're not going to learn anything worthwhile about it. At least Horizon Vs. Zelda made senses.
