Black Omen from Chrono Trigger:
What it looks like:
What it really is:
Because the top of the structure is really this part:
The Black Omen is a Star Destroyer and not some sort of weird-ass flying tower.
OMG, that does help! I think it's because I didn't see his other eye so your brain forces a weird perspective.this might help
Some of yous guys... I don't know how you're seeing what you're seeing.
I'm not seeing this one. I even covered the other side of his face with my thumb and I still can't see how you thought that...
Part of the process of the brain's cognition of something is the disregarding, to the point of near-invisibility, the data that it does see as relevant to what it's already decided is "right"
Actually, I think the trainer is giving advices to the boxeur on some specific punch, that's why the trainer is moving and the boxeur is nodding. Can anyone explain what this is supposed to actually be? I mean, at best it looks like a trainer is down on his knees and yanking the guy's shorts down if not in the middle of already... servicing him.
The left announcer looks like he's giving us the finger and the one on the right looks like he's holding both his hands under his chin, pouting.
Please refer to my post above.
You're still ignoring over half the sprite, though.
Even with that GIF posted earlier, I still can't see it at all.
(Link's death sprite from the GBC Zeldas)
That sprite confused me for years. I thought Link got a bowler hat and sat down all depressed with his arms in front.
I still don't know what it's supposed to represent.
This one is messing with me. I CAN cover the right side of the sprite and see the face you and others have seen. But as soon as you uncover the rest of the sprite the illusion is lost. What did you interpret the rest of the sprite as?
Most things I get. Even the ones that make no logical sense like crouching Mario turning into a bird. But this one seems impossible to view incorrectly unless you are ignoring 60% of the visual information on screen.
Agh from A Link to the Past.
I don't know how anyone managed to ever see the left drawing. lol

For a while I thought the eyes were the red part, not the white on the side. The OG sprite didn't help, IMO.
I'm pretty sure that's Jesus riding a horse.
LOL! Wow, it's hard to even make out the Hitmonchan sprite to begin with!Pokemon Red and Green sprites sure were something.
Always saw the spaceship in the black omen. Didn't know people saw an obelisk in it.
What is the real reason for this?
That and Gestahl not being a dog-creature are facts for the mindblowing facts thread.Black Omen from Chrono Trigger:

Most likely had to do with the rabbit Link color palette. They had to make the rabbit a color that would stand out and wasn't being used (pink) and because of sprite limitations, it made Link's hair pink as well since it was originally the same color as the rabbit (yellow).
Can't remember where I read that at.

I personally have a really hard time seeing his hat's gem stone as a mouth...
well....
This seems like a very poor rationalization. This sort of thing wouldn't have had to be a problem on the NES, much less the SNES. Especially when the rabbit is such a small part of the game, it's not worth sacrificing your hero's hair color for a little 15 minute jaunt.
Like others I always thought as a kid Mario was hitting Yoshi in SMW when he wanted him to eat something:
Now someones gonna post the ADHD video

The shadow was a dead giveaway I thought.

come on guys , 7 pages and nobody posted the Bioshock Bomberman :
Mario is not hitting Yoshi on the head here?
I can't believe this hasn't been posted.
I know it isn't from a game, but Zartan hair or hood?
Cue Ball in Pokémon Red/Blue always seemed a little... Off to me.
Top of the head. It's an experience buffWTF is this in Diablo 3?
Grahf's profile from Xenogears:
Not a sprite, but still game related.
Top of the head. It's an experience buff

Looks like they're holding a severed head in their left hand.
