Square Enix party: more confirmation about a new game

chibcicylist said:
This not being an MMO and the comment about Nintendo fans pretty much confirms that the new game is either for the Wii or DS.

It's probably a Wii related announcement using my powers of deduction:

1) Square-Enix DS support is pretty much cemented so it probably won't be the DS but if it's not for the Wii, it's for the DS.
2) Wii is lighting up the Japanese sales charts and they already made a costly miscalculation putting their initial and major support on a lagging Sony console, so it probably won't be the PS3.
3) SE still highly prize their Japanese audience more than Capcom so it probably won't be the 360.
4) PSP who?

I think it depends. If this game was started 6 months ago, its probably for the PS3 and/or 360.

If it started 2-3 months ago, its a Wii project.

I'll call it right now - Final Fantasy XIII moved to the DS.

Gotta get on it before they announce what it is, like I should've done with DQIX

Wow that would suck big time. A main Final Fantasy game on handheld in this day and age would truly be a huge step back.

I hope Square continues holding it's balls and release FFXIII on PS3 in 08

That teaser comment that Nintendo fans should pay close attention to the event is a pretty good evidence, imo.

I don't think they'll scrap the main FFXIII for Ps3 and make a DS version instead. That would be just stupid. Even thinking about it is stupid.

DS will get a FFXIII project though, I think that's for sure.

Well, I doubt only one project is being announced. The Nintendo comment could relate to another FF12 DS spinoff for all we know.

It's not DS because it obviously has voice acting...duh.

I was just kiddin' :p

But if they do make an FFXIII DS, I want it to play like a standard RPG and not feel like a spinoff, you know?

Am I the only one who thinks that story has nothing to do with the game announced in this thread? It still sounds too much like an anime/manga game.

"Square Enix has applied for patent protection in US last week, for a new game called The Last Remnant." - Magic-box

Could be related?

Bah didn't feel like searching:p
s'kay, just a little chiding. As far as I'm aware, the current theories are...

=Final Fantasy VII: The Last Remnant (Basically, theorized as Dirge of Cerberus 2)
=Kingdom Hearts: The Last Remnant (KH Gaiden, placed in the past to explain Xenahort's... however you spell it, Zeanooto, whatever... past. Basically, that ending CG)
=Final Fantasy XII-2: The Last Remnant (Yet another FFXII spin off on the DS/Wii. Unfortunately, this theory was born from people who can't read Japanese, reading Japanese... so no)
=Final Fantasy XIII: The Last Remnant (Yet another spin off from FFXIII, simple, but I doubt it since all the other subtitles are in Latin and I doubt S-E would announce more games till they got a measure of FFXIII's financial success)
=Something else (Something else :p)

I don't see it being DoC2 because it would not follow the FFVII:AC, BC, CC, DC pattern.

It's 100% not KH related. Nomura has repeatedly said that the KH announcement is for Summer 2007 and will not be at the S-E Party. In the KH2FM+ Ultimania he has also commented that the project will involve exploring the "non-Sora" parts of KH lore (Mickey in the dark world, Roxas' 1 year of existance, etc) and will likely be on portable platforms.

Last Remnant would fit well with Revenant Wings (sounds a bit similar). I agree it's not another XIII game, we still have no idea what Haeresis it (or do we?).

So my guess is that it's something else. Still it could be FFVII related because Last Remnant can mean last fragment, and with the whole Project Genesis thing it would make sense.

I'm pretty sure SE is gearing up for massive support for the Wii and continued support of the DS...the two are going to continue to own Japan...for yonks.

duckroll, which magazine should cover SE Party first? Since its Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th it won't be in (Friday 11th) Famitsu if I'm not mistaken.

So Weekly Jump on Monday 14th...probably leaked on Friday? :)

If the announcements are really, really major top secret stuff? None of them. The only game we know for sure is a new Star Ocean, and it's unlikely for Jump to get a scoop on that. I would say the earliest we'll know about the announcements would be the weekend itself when they actually make the announcements. Then scans will flood in the week after.

"New RPG franchise" are not words I was expecting with this announcement, but they are welcome ones. Maybe this announcement won't suck afterall.....maybe.

They will announce a new IP, which will be a game following the model of Guild Wars, featuring a gameplay close to Secret of Mana and the lead platform will be the Nintendo Wii. It will have pirates and Ninjas.

What about my Monkey Overlords and Cyber Trolls?

So Shane was lying when he said a portable KH would be revealed? I suppose he did say "maybe" but anyone with half a brain could tell he was not guessing.

Do you believe Shane, or Nomura?

I believe plans change and a week away from the party I'll believe the much more updated and still creditable source. I don't see why Shane would mislead us.

Shane has been consistently wrong with his "rumor mongering," but it's possible KH portable will come. It just seemed like he hinted at too much stuff. New Star Ocean, new KH, new IP, new 360 game (perhaps overlapping?)?

new vehicle?
A Link to the Snitch Monorail?

KH portable is NOT a rumor. Nomura even said it in the KH2FM+ Ultimania interview. The issue at hand is that they're not planning on announcing or unveiling the new KH spinoff(s) at the S-E Party. That's reserved for later this Summer, probably at E3. This has been made very clear. Shane's just... confused as usual. :P

Wait, has Nomura confirmed a new KH spinoff in general, or did he specifically say the new spinoff is going to be portable?

I didn't mean it that way. I meant, "It's a rumor that it will come at the event." I know it's coming. I'm an avid reader of the Duckroll newsletter.

Just so everyone knows, Grandia came out for the Saturn exactly 10 years ago. If S-E loved me, they'd give me something Grandia-related (remake of first game, new entry), etc...
