Square Enix party: more confirmation about a new game

it's supposedly multi-platform. why would you care if you can get the best version on your console of choice?

Because - if I understand ethelred's views based on previous posts - a multi=plat game for such dissimilar consoles will just result in major compromises in some aspect of game design or presentation.

Because hacked-up port-downs of wagglified next-gen games are disappointing, lame, and should be avoided at all costs. Let developers make awesome high-end-visuals/processing games on the one hand for 360, PS3, or PS360, and let them make Wii games unique and separate and designed for that console. Mingling the two does nothing but bad things.

So... let me see if I got this right.
Big budget games visually-impressive games from last gen like FFXII, GoW2 and Resident Evil IV, for instance, should only be made this gen on the PS360, and the Wii should exclusively get "unique" and "separate" things (by GAFs definition: spinoffs and minigames)? And who said anything has to be a port down?

Shoehorned control mechanics on the Wii (for the wiimote). As Etherled stated, keep the original stuff on the Wii. Multi console stuff probably won't turn out well.

You are correct.

If you want to want to put words in my mouth then sure, that's exactly what I said.

I haven't read this whole thread. That's just exactly the way it sounded.
But there will be plenty of games this gen that will suffer in both respects. There will be some multiplat games that suffer BECAUSE of the Wii (i.e. well... actually, an example isn't currently coming to mind) and there will be others that suffer because it's NOT the Wii (Rayman Raving Rabbids comes immediately to mind). The CPU/GPU differences won't make a lick of difference to developers that have talent and a sense of scope in design.

The Last Remnant

Spring 2008 - Next Generation Consoles - 1 Player RPG

One thousand years ago humanity came into contact with Remnants. These magical fragments of a bygone era were once used to promote peace across the world. Soon, as the rift grew between those who ruled and those who obeyed, the remnants ceased being instruments of balance, and instead became paths to immeasurable power. Where once there had been peace, only bloodshed remained.

- Released simultaneously in U.S. and Japan

-Two prominent characters each created to appeal to a specific territory. Rush Sykes will appeal to JP gamers, and "The Conqueror" for Western Audiences. Game won't force you to choose which character you play.

- Remnants vary in size and can take the form of machines, beasts, and weapons.

- 4 races revealed: Mitra (humans), Yama (Large fish-like beings), Qsiti (small humanoid lizards), Sovanni (four armed cat like creatures)

- Battle System will not be passive and will include QTEs in certain instances. Fights still take place in a turn based frame work.

- This is the first UE3 game SE will be releasing. Graphics look great so no worries there

What ever happen to Vagrant Story DS? Anyways, it better be a new IP, I am getting tired of these FF games :lol. Remake DQ 1-5 on the DS...

You assume any PSWii60 game will mean the Wii gets a hacked-up wagglified port-down rather than the PS360 getting a high-res de-waggled port-up.

It's not an assumption so much as a reasonable analysis of where the course of development has gone. But fine, whatever -- either alternative is just as detrimental, just as worthy of annoyance by gamers.

So this weekend, we have to look forward to:
- new Star Ocean (or maybe two?)
- new FF that we've "never seen before"
- Last Remnant blow out
- possible FFXI-related announcement

I guess we don't need E3 any more.

If it weren't for the fact that Squeenix refuses to release high quality trailers online (FFXIII comes to mind), I'd be excited.

Please be more like Star Ocean 2 than Star Ocean 3......

(crosses fingers)

Or Square Enix just wants this game to sell to American audiences more. Especialy since this game seems to be coming out to the 360 as well, why wouldn't they focus on the NA market?

they are all about putting games on the struggling formats! ... Wonderswan got some love, even the PS3 is getting a game i hear....

I'd worry more about the Capcom kiss of death... as soon as they start making brand new exclusive IPs run for the hills

Final Fantasy is starting to lose all meaning to me. Theres just too many sequels, spin offs, whatever.

It was great back in the psone days where you had FFVII, VIII, IX with ONE main spin off being FFT. Those were better days.

Two Star Oceans? Do you know something we don't, or are you referring to possible PSP/DS port or a 360/PS3 dual-release?

Do you think we'll hear anything about the next Disney crossover that isn't Kingdom Hearts?

The only reason I suspect two is because there will be two groups performing music. It's one thing to have a vocal opening and ending theme in a game, but usually they are performed by the same artists. I just thought different artists may mean different games.
