EA CANADA? Wait, people, wait, hold on a second, there is hope. Yet. EA Canada behind the rejuvenation of Fifa?
Although they can't be working on both I guess, as Fifa is a yearly release.

What if it's the EA Canada behind NBA Elite?

Why did you have to remind me of that travesty again?

yeah all that whining and crying. such a travesty that people react like that when shown a 30 second teaser trailer with no gameplay.

The reveal was disappointing but I will hold final judgment until I get a demo. I do feel like I need a palate cleanser, so I think I'll go look for a copy of SSX Tricky tomorrow.

Because gameplay is all that matters?

NO. The style and the look of the game are all parts that make a game successful. If it's just the gameplay that we're looking for, all of us would still be playing Atari games and their figure stick characters.

Well first of all thats just dumb. Secondly, it doesn't matter what you're looking for, a lot of the reactions in this thread are just plain over the top, as they were in the DmC reveal.

Actually on second thought it would be kind of cool to have a game where you are exploring the Himalayas on a snowboard and generally fucking shit up (yetis) with an axe or possibly machine gun.

It's people trying to outdo each other for laughs. The tone the trailer sets in comparison to what everyone was expecting due to it having the SSX moniker is absolutely deserving of the reaction.

So the trailer has what looks like some potentially fun gameplay elements... it's just that gritty unfun feel that's got me worried...

I completely agree. It's just as bad (honestly worst) then those who get overly excited over a CGI trailer.

True, but I mean the Hot Pursuit section of the series, not just NFS in general. Also I guess I shouldnt jump on people for complaining too much, since I was just as up in arms when the dmc teaser released.

Yeah I think DMC would be an apt comparison as would Max Payne 3. These games may turn out great in the end, but they are certainly not what fans want from each particular series, at least based on what we know about them thus far. We want to see series evolve, get bigger and better, but we still want to see the heart of the idea that made those games great front and center.

Anyone who's spent any amount of time with SSX can tell you there are certain charms to the series, none of which appear to be in the trailer. Granted, it's just a trailer, but still.

I know where you're coming from, but the way you are unable to feel empathy for fellow gamers is just... Eh. You're first person on my ignore list, see you around.

...But I have an honest question, who are we to say how they should evolve? seriously, we have no direct input into how and why a particular game is designed a certain way... it wasn't our IP/idea/concept to begin with. We simply partake. Why shouldn't a developer take a risk? Obviously there are potentially massive repercussions... but hey, I actually like to them to be taken anyway.

Note: this is not just in context to SSX Black Ops. Definitely more towards *cough* DmC...

I've spent plenty of time (like an unhealthy amount) with the SSX games, I know why people like them. And I'm not saying they shouldn't be mad, but give new shit a chance before writing it off as the biggest disaster of this generation, ya know?

oh lol, i'm ignored. CRY TEARS OF BLOOD FOR ME INTERNET COMMUNITY

If it really was new shit, sure. The problem is that this is the same new shit that infects nearly every big budget game that gets released these days.

I wonder if this could back-fire on them. Sure, it may still be a great snowboarding game and lots of gamers will buy it.

But with that Black Ops stuff, they may be cutting themselves out of the 'all ages' market. I think more parents & kids will be turned off by the Black Ops stuff than gamers gained with the Black Ops stuff.

I'd say your fellow gamers are partly to blame for this for bashing the Wii for being casual and kiddy, but I don't wanna open that can of worms.
lol nah im joking i totally do

There is be a crazy 'movie pitch' committee at EA.

OK . . . let's do "God of War" meets "Dante's Inferno"

Let's do "Medal of Honor" meets "Modern Warfare"!

Let's do "SSX" meets "CoD: Black Ops"

Let's do "NBA Live" meets "Jesus"

I really can't help but believe that what the designers are making is a parody. Nobody is that ridiculious to take that shit seriously.

But it is a win/win. If they can sell copies to dudebros while simultaneously mocking them, good on them.

Every? I dont even think "nearly every" is accurate. Stop with the hyperbole gaf.

3 thought that came to me reading through the thread.

First: Going by the description on the games website i dont think I would be interested no matter what name it had. Sure it's a brief description, but everything it says points to a very controlled experience. You have to race down a mountain at top speed or die from lack of oxygen? So I dont get to take my time and have fun on the mountain? Next they talk about having to stay in the path of the sun on another mountain lest you freeze to death? Yeah this all sounds like a ton of fun.

Second: Many games have reboots that take the game in a new direction. But this has strayed so far from the path that it seems pointless to call it SSX. Max Payne and Tomb Raider have taken their franchises in a new direction. Most people have been receptive about (most) of the changes coming to Tomb Raider, most are willing to take a wait and see approach to Max Payne. But at least they are still in the same neighborhood of where their franchises belong. This is a Mario Cart reboot turning into an attempt to make a sim racer. This is a Madden reboot trying to be NFL Street. It's so far from the roots of the game that you might as well rename it.

Third: The SSX franchise was always popular among women gamers. Even the Peggle/The Sims type. There are certain games that will draw in casual women gamers like fighting games or mario games. SSX was the only game that most women I knew would play. It was a great "party game" .They will not play this. Not a single chance in hell this game will be any kind of party game.

Before watching video but reading thread title:
"Surely SSX must be some military abbreviation I'm not familiar with.. Can't be that snowboarding game.. Just a coincidence."

After watching video:

Jesus, I didn't play SSX religiously, but it was pretty damn fun, hopefully they make an online version of tricky for xbla/psn as a promotion, then next year we get a NBA Elite deally.

That's just it though. Is this a risk? A risk would probably be sticking to the aesthetics that made this franchise. By making it another grey looking mess are they really taking a risk? Are they really doing something new when most games now have a similar art style?

A risk would be making a super colorful fluorescent Speed Racer the movie-esque game visually. Grey is not a risk. It's just conforming to most of the stuff that is already out.

With all the being said, let's see some in-game footage. I'm hoping it doesn't look like that trailer but we'll see.

SSX is about being in your face with techno music and crazy visuals. This is what SSX fans want at least. Alienating a fan base isn't normally a very good first step. I don't understand why anyone would prefer a dull-muted SSX.

This.

I get why people get all up in arms over the new Dudebro/CoD/Army/Badass/Tom Clancy art style and feel, but I think y'all are whining a little too soon. I'd rather be positive and hope for the best, at least until we see some kind of gameplay trailer.

I didn't even need that trailer to go whining and crying. Reading the words "Ninja Theory" was enough for me.

I never played SSX but this trailer got me interested. Guns involved?

edit: wow people here don't like it :lol

I guess I'm the only one who liked the trailer. I thought it looks cool. I like the exploring of high elevation peaks, Everest, etc. I also like the weather effects and more realistic approach. I'd rather focus on the snowboarding than pulling off ridiculous tricks which could never occur in real life. I liked SSX1 more than Tricky and 3 because it wasn't TOO insane. Different strokes, I guess.

Yeah because lots of snowboarders pull off backflips when doing helicopter drops.

ffs....

edit: and come on spider-man style arm gliders? Yeah really realistic there bro...

This is a point I always wonder whether developers fully get. When you make a sequel, you have a catch 22 situation: stay the course, and be called out on re-hashing product; stray too far, then you've alienated your fanbase who would be your biggest support for the product.
