Star Wars 7 isn't better than the PT. ( OBVIOUS SPOILERS )

A lot of people have this really weird idea that, as soon as the emperor died, the entire structure and base of the empire was just going to like, I dunno, throw up their hands and peacefully hand everything over to Leia and co. Of course there is going to be a very large imperial remnant keeping any attempt at a new republic on their toes.

Yup, plus her origin makes her more interesting and compelling. She's basically never had anything, as far as she can remember--Jakku is "home" insomuch as she thinks her family might return. She isn't just wistfully longing to leave the planet. Her life is barely scrapping by.

And yet, despite all this, she still feels an obligation to return home and wait for her family. You really get a sense of her longing for family--not just space adventure, like Luke.

The best new character from the new cast as an ally, too bad his character has so poor screen time, it's maybe why the character is likable for now,

Leia:

I did a little summary about her character, but when I read it again, it was 90% about her looks and not really about her character so I move on, there is nothing to say about her character, time has passed, she's still the leader of the resistance even if she won 40 years ago, she doesn't seem to care about Han death when she felt it and don't give a shit about Chewie feels and prefer take Rey who knew Han for a day in her arms...


Han Solo:

The savior of the movie, even if he's too old and we don't believe his action scene now, dude still has it, damn Han was good, I can feel the nostalgia when met the Faulcon again, I could take his joke but I couldn't take his death, just wtf ? there is no way they should have killed him that way...

Han Solo is a myth and shouldn't have lost his life like that, if they really wanted to kill him, they should have waited for episode 8, built more climax, give him a heroic moment before he loses his life and what the fuck happened with Leia and the other ? fucking Han Solo died and no one gives a shit about it ? they were all celebrating and shit, Qui Gon Jinn had a funeral, even Darth Vader had one too but no tribute for Han Solo, just wtf Disney...

Kylo Ren:

The best new character until the middle of the movie, he's just everything Disney can't do well, a good bad guy, Kylo Ren had everything at the beginning, the look, the force, the body language, EVERYTHING but everything turned to shit when he captured Rey, the face reveal was the worst thing ever, he loses about someone who just start to discover the force in a mind game, he takes a shot by a screaming chewie when he could stop a fire blaster in his back at the beginning, get touched by the loser Finn and lose against Rey who grabbed her light saber for the first time... at this point, the character is pretty much dead for the public, no one will care about what he's doing from now on, we know that he will finish his training and beat Rey the next time to lose on episode 9... the real deception to me becquse it's the best character from the movie and have a better character development than Vader in Ep 4.

There is so much wrong in the bolded that it feels like you strive for prequel-era soulless, styleless power fantasies than a good Star Wars movie.
 
I rewatched III the other night as I believe it is the best of the prequel trilogy and it is still shit compared to VII. I really don't see how anyone DOESN'T think the last third of TFA isn't God Tier.
 
Wow, some people are just desperate to justify their love of those shitty prequels, even if it means coming up with half-assed explanations for why they're "better" than a clearly superior film. Most of your justifications are just plain odd or show a fundamental misunderstanding of what happened in TFA.
 
People who call Rey a mary sue are the same kind of people who look at male equivalents as badass heroes.

Maybe Rey was trained at a young age, but has since forgotten? Maybe she has been awakened?

Since the Force has presumably been sleeping, maybe Kylo Ren didn't know how to handle other Force users?
 
I care more about Rey as a character more than the entire cast of characters of the prequel trilogy. And while she is extremely gifted in the force, she still needs training and guidance, so I still see plenty of room for her to grow as a character and as a force user.

Kylo Ren is one of the most interesting villains in the series. He's still not completed his training and he is an insecure brat. He wants to be as powerful as Darth Vader and he gets flustered when Rey calls him out on his belief he never will be. He is a wild child right now and undisciplined.

But really, I disagree with so much of what you said. While we still need to wait and see how the rest of the new trilogy goes, the prequel trilogy is complete trash and not even worth the time of day to watch. Force Awakens does have flaws, but it genuinely feels more like a Star Wars movie then episodes 1-3.

Honestly you should be comparing it to ANH rather than Empire. ESB was the second act and meant to get all of the characters to their lowest points in their respective arcs, TFA is establishing a new set of characters and their arcs, as ANH did.
 
You can't be worst character in a saga that has adolescent Anakin Skywalker.

The film could of been really good but after the trench run 2.0 it totally jumped the shark in terms of numbers of callbacks to the originals.

No it's not the same thing. What is up with this revisionist history that people loved Phantom Menace originally? Sure some did, but within days most fans and reviewers realized how bad it was. The same won't happen to TFA. If anything depending on Episode 8, it will likely be regarded with higher acclaim as the years pass on similar to Episode 4, which was also a poor standalone film, IMO, with as many questions as Episode 7 has.
 
I can agree that it's a fairly weak movie overall. Far too safe on the part of Disney, but mostly because it's a complete rehash of Ep IV and V with Rey at the helm this time around. The rest of your arguments...well everyone is entitled to their own opinions I suppose. Besides, we don't really know how these hanging plot threads will be resolved in the following films.

Personally I'd place it below V and IV, but above VI. The Starkiller base is the Darth Maul of the new trilogy.
 
I didnt like any of the points you made... It seems to me like you have too much of an attachment to the original... And ur critcisms of the old characters vs the new are contradictory. How the fuck was han the best to you? He never said a single thing of concequence throughout the film.

Legit. Rey, Finn, and Poe absolutely have more charisma, chemistry, and actual human feeling than anything in the prequels. It helps that they actually have decent dialogue to work with.
 
The movie had plenty of flaws (which I see on every page of every thread discussing the film, yet some people want to act like they are the first to criticize), but when I skim through a critique and see Kylo Ren not actually being a Darth Maul-esque badass Vader clone it just tunes me out. That aspect being a facade he puts up while actually being a psychological mess was my favorite part of the character.

And Finn doesn't even really challenge him, the body language says he's toying with him until Finn gets a hit in at which point Kylo dispatches him in seconds. I did think Rey did too well, but the film directly states he is going to finish his training (doubt Luke ever trained him in Lightsaber dueling) and I'm interested in the leveled up, healed up rematch.

Anyway, flawed movie as it is, it's much better than Episode 1/2 at the very least. I can see arguments that 1/2 tried had higher aspirations, but the execution is just so bad.

It's an amazing movie, but you're right: there are a lot of callbacks to the originals which is a good and bad thing. It punches you right in the nostalgia.

I think I need the initial hype to settle in but TFA is at least number two in my Star Wars ranking list.
 
Ep:7 was a competently made, well acted and paced movie, with a completely bland story with subpar rehashes of the best moments of the OT.

The Prequels were executionally botched with horrible dialogue, acting and too much CG but still tell a much more interesting and unique story. You just have to wade through all the crap to get there.

Once the hype dust settles, I think EP:7 will still be better than any of the prequels, but EP:4 or 5, it is not.

Because like I said, their patch are obvious for now, they all are newbies from both camp, they all will receive training that'll lead in obvious ending, nothing to be exited from it, The Only confrontation that will be interesting to see is Luke vs Snoke.

Poe was a nice surprise: I had no idea that this character existed. I guess it's partly due to my own avoidance of the story and characters but I'm glad he's here. He's a total bro and I look forward to seeing what else he will do in the future.

So you only want to see developed characters fight? You don't find anything interesting about new force users battling eachother for the first time?

Makes sense considering you started to hate Kylo Ren the moment he showed that he was just a person, not some Darth Vader level supervillain, and prefer Darth Maul, a shitty character who never even says a word.

What exactly are you asking for? You want us to tell you the plot of Episode VIII or something?

Seriously don't know what you're arguing. There are hundreds of different ways they can take the story. If you haven't seen articles or discussions on that, you're being willfully ignorant.
