Star Wars Battlefront II Official Gameplay Reveal

I hope they're locked in most of the modes in the final game. A free for all heroes mode like in the original BFII would be cool, but I don't really like seeing Boba Fett and Rey fighting with prequel armies. Having the heroes map and era dependent is much more in line with what I like to see.

Yeah, I get it, I actually liked the gunplay in BF2015. I don't mind the change too much but I can see why a lot of people do. Hopefully they settle on a middle ground.
I mind the change a lot since the recoil is pretty heavy. And like, battlefront has always been an arcade run and gun shooter and they tried to get rid of that for no apparent reason. Ugh

They fucked with the single best thing about bf2015's game play for the hell of it

Star Wars HQ got more info from DICE about the game:

- Skirmish is returning, it will be larger than the first game, but it will not have all online modes available.
- Customization for soldiers is in, but it will be authentic, meaning pink Stormtroopers are a no-go.
- Wookie Warriors and Phase 1 Clone Troopers are in the game but are planet specific.
- Droidekas won't be at launch, but maybe in the future.
- Each era will have equal amount of content.
- Cross-era weapons are confirmed.
- Cross-era Heroes may or may not make it into the final game.
- You can roll in all directions.
- Reload system is similar to Gears of War, if you can time precisely then the weapon will not overheat for a while.
- Officer class can give out buff items.
- Healing items will be available. Bacta Bomb probably won't be returning.

Thank god for the customization and no bacta bomb, but I could have sworn droidekas were in the trailer, no?

Thanks for the info/feedback on the single player length.

10-15 hours seems like it would be the nice spot to hope for in the game. That's about how long most of the canon audio books are.

4-6 hours would be disappointing. That's how long both of the Force Unleashed games are. Those games were extremely disappointing for how much they were marketed.

As for hero wishlists: I doubt they'd make it in, but BT-1 or Sabin Wren would both be fun to play. Having Sabin's TIE Fighter, would be awesome.

Pretty much cool with most of that. Skirmish is a big one. Controlling customization is appreciated.

Disappointed about the Destroyers but they said if there's enough fan interest they'll look into it, so make some noise boise.

I really really hope cross-era heroes remain in the final game. It's okay, DICE. Relax. Nobody is going to see Rey fighting Maul and start writing angry letters to Kathy Kennedy. Let's just have fun, yeah? More choices on map is more fun. Choose fun.

Skrimish is limited because they can't get the AI to do everything a human would.

Yep. They appear to have bent to the will of a group of crybabies that probably barely played the original. And it won't capture them this time either. They'll shit on BF2 for some other reason them go back to CoD or Battlefield 1.

"Phase 1 Clone Troopers are in the game but are planet specific"

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Infinitely better looking than Phase 2, and i can't use it when i want? (I get why Phase 2 is what it is but the mix of clones and stormys just looks boring.)

Yeah, I get it, I actually liked the gunplay in BF2015. I don't mind the change too much but I can see why a lot of people do. Hopefully they settle on a middle ground.

There is no real middle ground, i think. ADS and classic styles are mutually incompatible, and affect the game at large, not just shooting itself.
Well, i guess you could make zoom slow the player down and give accuracy boost (ie wouldn't do anything for already perfect accuracy weapon), but i don't think would be that interesting, or even a good mechanic.

EDIT To be clear, because i know someone will wonder, i don't mean to imply BFII has iron sights, rather i use ADS as shorthand for "zoom affects accuracy and movement speed" style shooter.

Why couldn't there be middle ground? In CoD, movement speed and ADS affects accuracy a lot. In Battlefront movement speed and ADS don't affect accuracy at all.

I can only hope that in this, movement speed and ADS affect accuracy... a little bit? -_-

So you now have an ADS system or something similar. It is no longer a classic system where you can do snap shots from run and hit where you aim, assuming accurate weapon, like you can in Battlefront. Even slightest reduction in accuracy will make this impossible. Most people are never good enough to do that anyway, and adding such thing only punishes good players (effectively lowering skillgap).

Movement affecting accuracy and zooming affecting movement (generally, different from only individual weapons, eg snipers, being affected) fundamentally change how a shooter play.

If the guys over at the Battlefront skrimish group on Facebook are right, Dennis Brännvall tweeted to someone that tokens would be in skrimish mode, but deleted the tweet after getting too much hate.

Thrawn, like Tarkin, isn't a really good fit for a field hero.

General Veers on the other hand.... This guy commanded his troops on the field (in an AT-AT but close enoughh). Wears a helmet and a blast west. Sure would make a good officer-support hero (like Krennic in DLC for BF1).

...But Thrawn has also been out on the field commanding his troops, helmet with blast vest included. Even has his squad of Death Troopers similar to Krennic.

He's also been shown to be proficient in hand to hand combat, so that could be an interesting gameplay element.

I feel like Veers doesn't seem unique enough to include as a hero. But then again, when guys like Greedo and Nien were in the last game, I guess anything's on the table.

I can completely understand this, but personally I am hoping they keep the eras distinct from one another. Firstly, I feel it would kinda break the fantasy to certain degree to see all of the characters running around together. I also think by keeping the eras distinct, it would help keep the game feeling varied, and give players a reason to dip into different era matches. If we had access to all the heroes all the time, it would be like having too much of a good thing if that makes sense. All that being said, I wouldn't say no to a sort of specials playlist where they have hero free for all and other game modes which are bit more silly and don't abide by the canon.

So you can spawn into vehicles, but you still (like Battlefield 1 or Battlefront 1) won't have vehicles around the map to jump in and out of.

Can you jump out of said vehicle? Or do you just "spawn back" when your vehicle is destroyed?

Has their been any footage of the single-player released?

In terms of gameplay, no.

Seems like a strange oversight, I was expecting to see the campaign at the Sony conference. Have they mentioned when we might see it?

They haven't, guess we'll see later on.

Thanks, that's a shame, was really looking forward to seeing it. It's hard to be disappointed on a day where Metroid Prime 4 was announced though :)

Metroid Prime 4 just came out of nowhere. Man I'm so hyped for that, I really like that series but Metroid Prime is one of my fave games of all time so I'm looking forward to the new game.

I really hope that it's more like ADS has benefits, but without crippling the 'hip fire' aspect that was akin to the first.

I loved being able to outgun multiple people due to strafing and rolls, reminded me of Halo. If they cripple (or worse.. make the bolts extremely random) then that's going to be a bit of a downer.

Man I need this game to come out. I'm in dire need of a fun multiplayer shooter. Overwatch is infested with GM kids on smurf accounts and Titanfall 2 is somehow still a stuttery, laggy mess after god knows how many patches. The wait until November is going to be brutal

Watched some eurogamer footage.

Watching a lesser skilled player have tremendous fun with the game is always a good sign.

Also the first time I've seen 1st person mode. Looks fantastic.

Also hearing that Galactic Assualt changes the objective to a planet specific one is great for variety.

Will be my most played game next to siege me thinks.

Stopped watching Rebels S3 after the first break. And based on comments, i didn't really miss anything.
Nor do i read new Star Wars books really, so i don't know about new!Thrawn. The old one was a soldier for sure, with some infiltration (posed as a Stormtrooper once or twice at least) but i never got a feel he was someone who'd be running around with his troops.
So, perhaps new!Thrawn could work as a hero. Still would prefer sticking to film characters as much as possible first, and Veers is one of the only good fits for an Imperial officer villain.

Veers is relatively unknown, he appears pretty shortly in The Empire Strikes Back during the battle of Hoth only. But based on that little bit, he'd fit as a hero for the Empire quite well. Certainly better than Nien fit the Rebels, and we'd avoid the "bounty hunters are the only Imperial heroes"-syndrome too.

That's pretty good especially because that player sucks like me, so it's encouraging. I didn't know the MP was 1st/3rd person, that peaks my interest.

Any word on co-op and how meaty the SP campaign will be?

It's weird seeing battle droids running around cover all strategically. I'm used to seeing them just marching in a line getting picked off.
