Star Wars Battlefront II Official Gameplay Reveal

"Because it's all free" doesn't work as an answer to the question?

I'm asking because I'm confused why they're advertising Finn and Phasma (who's character models are already completed, seemingly) as free DLC, months in advance of the games release, as opposed to just including them in the finished game? It's obviously not to charge people, because the DLC is free. So what's the incentive for delaying their inclusion in the base roster only to offer them a few weeks later for download? What's the benefit for either the studio or the players?
I think they are battling to finish the game. It is huge in scope. Rey, Solo and Han were used in the Theed map because their prequel era counterparts are obviously not completed.

I hope this isn't doa on PC. I really wanna play this game but I haven't played an online shooter on a console in like 5 years. I'd get my ass handed to me.

So when a character's model is already completed this automatically also means that he/she is fully playable with all abilities, no bugs etc. and no play testing needed?

Damn, EA might as well delay it for 1+ years so they can launch with everything out of the box. /s

Have they said if more heroes are going to be announced? I'd be really disappointed if Obi Wan didn't make it into this.
The more I think about it, the more I am starting to worry about the selection of heroes. At least at launch.

Why else use Rey, Boba Fett and Han Solo on a Prequel-Era map? Only Darth Maul was fitting into that era.

This game isn't out for five months. It doesn't seem an unreasonable amount of time to get that done with two characters. Especially considering they're only coming about four weeks after the game releases.

There's no need to act like an asshole, dude.

They're promising two characters, four weeks after the game comes out, five months in advance of its release. It just struck me as a weird decision on their part.

Check this video, another great one, he says its not casual as first Battlefront its somewhere between the first one and BAttlefield 1.

All explosions and dmg were buffed for E3 demo, also clones couldn't win in phase 1.

BF I launched with 6 heroes, so it's a safe bet that BF II will launch with at least 8. And hopefully we'll get a free hero every month or so.

Looks boring like the first one. Would love to be proven wrong.

I'm honestly curious what you would like to see added to make it less boring for you....

The heroes don't seem to be just skins; they've got skills, VA, animations, balancing.. it is quite a lot of work. Maybe they chose to prioritize other characters for the base game so they can polish them later.

Perhaps releasing those characters at launch would spoil the last jedi story in someway. Both Finn and plasma were left in ambiguous positions at end of ep7

Yeah because the only thing DICE is working on now is finishing Finn and Phasma, are you really that small-minded? No beta announcement happened, netcode? who cares, E3 feedback? nah we don't need it.... seriously what makes you think the only thing they are doing now until release is just trying to get those two DLC characters done?

Sorry but you ask some really weird ass questions... remember the BF4's launch? they never want to ever happen a disaster like that again so DICE needs to make sure everything works fine and doesn't give a damn about your DLC chars. Input lag, rubber banding you name it... all has to be worked on until november.

I take a stable and robust launch any day over some DLC chars. That stuff can wait, important is a mostly solid, lag and crash free launch. And there was no need to call me an asshole, dude.

I was waiting for this since Xfactor said on his stream once that DICE contacted him and asked if he's in on BF2 and then he said no because the first game was too casual but then the DICE rep assured him they changed a lot of things and made it more skill based. So Xfactor was very vocal about Battlefront 1 and he says lot's of good things in this video, he doesn't really kiss EA's butt like some of those other youtubers.

it takes a lot of make a character. Rendering the model is probably the smallest part of it.

Animations, balance (how much damage they do, how much damage they take, rate of fire, aoe effects, all kinds of stuff), bugs, glitches, etc.

If EA figured they can only get 8 characters ready by launch, then it's 8 characters. Fitting "2 more" in by launch isn't a trivial thing. If the 2 characters are on the roadmap, then they'll be ready later.

Sure, you could question why they're announcing them now, but it's a way to show they have a plan for future content.

....what on earth? Who is saying this?

I wasn't suggesting EA are purely working on those two characters and have nothing else to concern themselves with in regards to the development of this game. I was just mentioning how odd it seemed to me that the guys working on Battlefront 2 appear to be at a point where they've created detailed character models for two DLC characters who they're offering for free only four weeks down the line after the release of a game that isn't coming out for five months. It just struck me as an odd development strategy. There's no need to get so weirdly defensive about it.

If they don't give a damn about "my" DLC characters (whatever the heck that means?), why have they announced a series of DLC characters, evidently finished designing their character models and filmed a promotional video with John Boyega announcing Finn and Phasma's inclusion four weeks after the game comes out? Following on from people's responses to my question, I've developed a better understanding of why that's a strategy EA want to engage in (to keep people excited about the game with free DLC), but it's pretty clear that these characters are something they're working on and are actively working to promote. So why are you acting like that isn't the case?

Not calling you an asshole buddy, just saying you're acting in an unnecessarily hostile and patronising manner for what amounts to a discussion about free content in a Star Wars game. It's an assholish way to behave. Other people managed to answer my question in a reasonable way without getting insulting and overly forceful about the whole thing. Why can't you?

1) maybe they aren't quite ready yet
2) maybe they wanted to get boyegas voice and it is taking time?
3) maybe they are over eager to present 'FREE DLC' to create the impression of value and/or consumer support, even though free maps is necessary to avoid fragmenting the user base and they still have plenty of post-release monetisation methods

Glad they improved the gunplay and there's more of a skill curve, I wanted to like the first one but the gunplay was so boring. That along with the other changes and the greater amount of content has me very interested in picking this up.

They are saving Finn and Phasma for The Last Jedi release.

This...would also make a lot of sense.

Those pics of Finn and Phasma were publicity shoot photos, from what I could tell. I don't think their character models are done yet.

Yep, both from The Force Awakens too.

Ah, okay. If so, then the characters probably aren't as far along as I supposed.

"Those models are so detailed, man!"

Agreed but I guess we have to wait to see what their full DLC plans are. They are probably delaying it closer to the new film, that's all.

The main reason for the Finn and Phasma being released later are two things:

1. Time - Modeling, Animations, Balancing, Skill Design etc. They have more than enough to do atm.

2: Timing - They want the release to coincide with the movie release (The Last Jedi) as a promo. It is a super smart PR move and will make a larger impact than if they were there from day 1.

If Finn and Phasma are TLJ DLC than this means Poe will be the other TFA hero alongside Rey? And maybe the 2 villains are Hux and Kylo Ren

Oh god, I hope we can turn off the droid chatter.

This is not good if not. I am willing to base my purchase on how annoying those stupid Ep.1-3 droids are.

Does someone know if qui gon jinn and anakin will be in this game?
No one knows yet. Only the anounced heroes are certain :(

So many great characters. They could turn "Heroes vs. Villains" into a competent hero shooter, haha.

And I want to see Baze from Rogue One! The perfect "heavy tank hero" :O

I like these trailers from DICE.

Let the game do the talking. No prolonged talking bullshit that shows nothing that they had last year with BF1.

With these visuals, I highly doubt it will be native 4K. Checkerboard sure.

Maybe it could be native 4k on Scorpio but won't be at Ultra settings like the PC version. If they push native 4k they will probably turn down a few effects a notch or 2 but overall it should look great still.

I also expect it will look fantastic on PS4 Pro too, probably using checkerboard rendering.
