Looks similar to Paladins? I hope it is just as fair and that you get some kind of ingame-currency for dupes from which you can craft the cards you actually need.
Paladins is also free and not a star wars game being published by one of the most wealthy publishers in the business.

First pay-to-win came for mobile, and we laughed. Then they came for F2P and we shrugged. Then they came to AAA but only for cosmetics or in a segregated mode. Now they've come for AAA in the main course.

This is the first western published AAA non F2P game I can think of where you can buy advantages in the main mode. Halo it's only one mode. Gears horde mode maybe.

Judging from this thread and lack of outrage I think we can assume they'll get away with it and the trend will spread.

I get you can get the same advantage from grinding. That's still awful. You pay $60 then pay more or dedicate dozens and dozens of hours before you are on the same playing field (at least with some characters).

But the slippery slope keeps on slipping

Unless confirmed already, I expect heroes will be exchangeable between factions via star cards. Hopefully factions can mix as well at some point with each other and on maps. Canon accurate battles are fine, but I think it would help with variety. Of course, this won't work on certain modes and would have to keep to their respective sides (though a power struggle between First Order forces and Imperials likely has some basis in eventual canon).

So what do we expect out of heroes (including vehicle) special units for the factions? I can see rosters like these at some point:

CIS Heroes
  • Darth Maul (confirmed)
  • Count Dooku (RIP Christopher Lee :( )
  • General Grievous
  • Jango Fett
  • Slave 1
  • General Grievous' Starfighter

CIS Specials
  • Super Battle Droid (confirmed)
  • Doidekas
  • IG-100 MagnaGuard

Republic Heroes
  • Yoda (confirmed)
  • Obi-Wan
  • Anakin
  • Jedi Starfighter

Republic Specials
  • Jump Trooper (confirmed)
  • Wookie Warrior (confirmed...map specific possibly)
  • Commando
  • ARC trooper (confirmed)

Imperial Heroes
  • Darth Vader (confirmed)
  • Boba Fett (confirmed)
  • Emperor Palpatine
  • Commander Iden Versio
  • Advanced Tie Fighter
  • Slave 1

Imperial Specials
  • Shadow Troopers (confirmed)
  • Imperial Special Forces (Inferno Squad)
  • Imperial Probe Droid

Rebel Heroes
  • Luke Skywalker (confirmed)
  • Han Solo (confirmed)
  • Princess Leia
  • Chewbacca
  • Millennium Falcon
  • Luke's X-Wing

Rebel Specials
  • Rebel Commando
  • No idea as there isn't a lot to pull from canon that is equivalent to other factions.

Resistance Heroes
  1. Rey (confirmed)
  2. Finn (confirmed)
  3. Poe Dameron's X-Wing
  4. Millennium Falcon

Resistance Specials (Unowned; likely EPVIII based)

First Order Heroes
  • Kylo Ren (confirmed)
  • Captain Phasma (confirmed)
  • First Order Special Forces Tie Fighter
  • Kylo Ren tie/Starfighter? Or a Phasma one

First Order Specials
  • Flame Trooper
  • Knight of Ren (suspect they'll appear in VIII, even if just a flashback)

This an Kashykk sp? whatever the chewbacca homeworld place is are the ones I want to see most. I loved Kashykk on OG Battlefront 2.

Kashyyk is in the gameplay reveal trailer when they start montaging different places.

Confirmed locales so far:
  • Theed
  • Kamino
  • Kashyyk
  • Tatooine
  • Starkiller Base
  • Takodana (Maz Kanata's castle location)
  • Endor (campaign, but likely a map)
  • Yavin
  • Hoth
  • Scariff

That looks like Tarfful in the brief Kashyyk clip, playable hero? If so then more obscure characters have a good chance.
Yeah, it definitely looks like him.

There's a shot of Rey running through what looks like Endor in the reveal trailer so that's probably a map. Hoth appeared too, plus Scarif appears in a brief shot. With the Tantive IV in the opening of this trailer I have a feeling they'll bring it back as well. Then we also have Crait as free DLC.

Rey is running through the jungle of Takodana in the first trailer, but I forgot about Hoth and the Scariff space battle.

They better include every hero from Star Wars Battlefront 1. We need Leia, Nien Nunb, Lando, Chewbacca, and Jyn for the Rebels. Then we need Palpatine, Greedo, Dengar, Bossk, and Krennic for the Empire.

Based off yesterday's footage, it shouldnt be that hard to include different abilities for these characters.

That would make things a bit too stacked for the OG compared to the rest at first, especially since a lot of those heroes were rather questionable choices from the available pool. Like Greedo, Dengar, Bossk, Krennic, and Nien Nunb were not the most inspired choices.

Get the balance right and add characters for free down the line.

The Empire is in dire need of better heroes. Not saying they all need to be force wielders, but including some of the Inquisitors would be interesting. Hell, they should add in Thrawn.

Saw Darth Maul lift and choke a clone only to slam him sideways into a wall. Too good.

Apparently Maul can't block but sidesteps?

One thing that concerns me is that apparently standing still and scoping increases accuracy. Absolutely did not want that, slows down gameplay immensely imho (and I heavily enjoyed the gunplay in third person from the 1st game)

Thrawn, like Tarkin, isn't a really good fit for a field hero.

General Veers on the other hand.... This guy commanded his troops on the field (in an AT-AT but close enoughh). Wears a helmet and a blast west. Sure would make a good officer-support hero (like Krennic in DLC for BF1).

What the fuck.
One of the best things in BF1 was that it had classic-shooter mechanics, no ADS (zoom only) and that had no effect on accuracy or movement!

Wait. This is confirmed? Fuck. The gunplay in BF2015 was great. Don't fuck with it. This isn't Battlefield.

I was worried about this. So many babies complained that it was "too simple" or that there "wasn't a skillgap". The same babies who stopped playing after a few matches or never bought the game at all.

Simple systems are usually better for creating a skill-gap, i think. That way it is really about mastery of the game, not mastery of the system. Or tolerating complexity.

For stuff like Galactic Assault, it doesn't seem to make that big of a difference (to me) because it's less run & gun and more holding the line or slowly pushing forward, so the movement penalties will be less noticeable.

Agreed. Still in day one but would have preferred if they hadn't kowtowed to the whiners who wanted straight up Star Wars Battlefield.

Yet for players like me who are on the move and up and close personal constantly will notice it. Yes, regardless of game mode. (Doing some solo captures or breaking through lines with aggressive play is so much fun.)

ADS (scope/zoom here i guess?) systems nearly always do have massive penalty for hip-firing, and more importantly, ADS is effectively double-bonus (it reduces penalty or even increases accuracy), not to mention usually having additional aim-assist on consoles (or effectively adjusting sensitivity on the fly).
It does massively affect how a game works.

I agree with Woorloog. I always played run & gun in Battlefront 1 and I literally never had to 'scope' except for the rare occassion I was trying to cross-map someone but even then I was better off using hip-fire due to me always running berserker.

I really hope it's not true (IT'S IMPOSSIBLE) but it seems to have been confirmed during one of the dev streams.

It's Dice, I had no doubt it would be gorgeous - but whoa.

I watched that EA Play and a few videos people have posted from E3, and it looks amazing. I love how they're introducing so many classes.

On the hero side, Darth Maul appears to be so mobile it's almost unfair - but I suppose that is balanced against his inability to deflect. Rey was kind of underwhelming - I think they need to retool her. I couldn't really see what was going on with Han in any of the videos I watched.

That's a pretty good list but it's missing a few locales that'll really make it great. We know Crait will be there as well as that original planet that'll be part of the story mode. They need to add:

-Bring Sullust back or replace it with Mustafar

-Bring back Cloud City

-Jedah unless it's too similar to Mos Eisley

-Geonosis with a starfighter map in the asteroid field

-A Naboo map in the open plains

-Coruscant

-Utapau

-Maybe a planet we saw in the Order 66 sequence (Felucia, Mygeeto, or Cato Nemoidia)

Looking at some more videos, man the amount of recoil especially when moving is huge. Really sucks since it'll conflict with the style of the game, hope they tone it down

The one standing in front of the First Order troopers. A little hard to tell in the dark lighting, is it shinier than the rest and is that something I see hanging on the back? Is it Phasma or just another FO trooper? Wishful thinking maybe.

Phasma would have a cape, so it's most likely just another trooper.

Yeah, I get it, I actually liked the gunplay in BF2015. I don't mind the change too much but I can see why a lot of people do. Hopefully they settle on a middle ground.

Anyone know if this is going to have open beta, or is it tied to preorders? Amazon only has the digital versions available, which is extremely odd

Beta is open, but a pre-order will get you early access to the beta.
They haven't announced how early or how long the beta will be.

has there been any mention of single player length?

I really hope it's at least 10 hours, but 15-20 or more would be ideal.

please be 35-40 hours

Believe me, you don't want a Dice single player campaign last for 35-40 hours, and that's coming from someone who enjoyed the last three campaigns in Battefield....

It's not DICE.

I feel like I've repeated this numerous times across multiple threads when people dismiss the campaign with "lol DICE". And it keeps happening constantly.

Doesn't guarantee it'll be great or even good. But we can't dismiss it as "lol DICE".

That said, I don't think it's realistic to expect something more than 10-12 hours in length, and it may very well be less.

Jade Raymond's Motive Studios is making the campaign, alongside the writer for Spec Ops: The Line; it's not really a Dice campaign.

I'm expecting something 4-6 hours.

Sorry, my bad. It's not Dice, but still, no matter how good it's going to be, you don't want it to last for 35-40 hours.

Yeah, for this type of game 35-40 hours would almost certainly overstay its welcome for most players.

I'm hoping for 10-12, but that's definitely at the high extreme of what's realistic. 4-6 would definitely be disappointing especially with how much they're hyping it up.. Hopefully at least more than that.

I really hope the single player can easily last 10 hours or more. Similar to Wolfenstein in length would be great, I guess if it has characters close to as interesting as Wolfenstein. A nice length really helps to get some more attachment to the story and I want as many amazing setpieces as possible in this engine :)
