Star Wars: The Last Jedi first poster.

I don't know, but I'm really not feeling it. It just looks really dull and cheap, almost like a first draft or a fan poster. The colours are nice, but it's too empty, and is missing that epic feel the original posters had. The offset faces are also weird. Like compare it to:

or

There is so much going on in each of those posters, while this one barely has anything to see in it. The posters for the original trilogy were works of art... this isn't

I like it. I'll like it more if they don't kill Luke. I don't care if he stays good or goes bad, I just really, really hope they don't knock him off in this one.

Those weren't teaser posters.

Here are the teaser posters for Star Wars and Empire:

Even so, this one looks way cheaper. ANH's teaser is is going for something different so it's not really comparable to TLJ's. But when compared to the Empire teaser, it looks bad. I think it's the dumb white background and the weird curved edges to the photo. It reminds me of an Apple ad, to be honest.

Strange sentiment. This poster looks fine to me.

now you're just reaching just for the sake of it.

calm your tits.

It does look mighty off, dude. Like it needed a few more revisions before being revealed.

For the record, not comparing to what you posted, just saying my opinion on it.

I don't think it looks off at all, but that aside (because I can understand just not liking the poster as a poster) but trying to say it looks "cheap" compared to white font on black text and a photo of a helmet with sparkles drawn on it doesn't make any sense to me.

Dude tried to compare a teaser poster to final promotional art from an era where promotional art was a legitimate industry and not something assigned to three or four people with the Adobe Creative Suite on their macbook, and when it was pointed out to him that the comparison he was drawing wasn't 1:1, doubled down that somehow this artwork still looked cheap compared to text and a sparkly photo.

Not seeing it.

This is far better, more striking and minimalistic than most others, light years better than the cluttered TFA theatrical and CG heads bullshit. The colors are very nice and Rey looks more iconic IMO

The Empire teaser is simple, but it doesn't look cheap. There might not be much there, but nothing in the Empire looks so bad it feels like something's off the first time I look at it. I'll give you that A New Hope's teaser is way more simple than The Last Jedi's, though. I think it works because it better accomplishes what it's going for, teasing the viewer through just text. There are a couple of things that look off in TLJ's poster; the main one being the misaligned faces. Also, in misalignment, Rey's lightsaber in TLJ's poster is to the left of the light beam that originates from it. The curved edges of the frame are one of my main problems with it, I don't know why, but it just makes it look cheap to me.

Zzzzzzz.....armchair graphic design.

Nooooooooooooooooo!

(Do Not Want)

Edit: seriously, color is awesome, but the offset faces looks strange. Should have gone for the direct side-by-side.
People say this, but that's such a lazy approach to the idea. (Tekken 7's cover art got the same comments)

It works much better this way. A direct side by side would hardly stand out and be seen as more of "two-become-one" trope rather than the implied dual protag seen here.

Is it "cheap" just because it's not full of stuff?

Crazy that Daisy Ridley was relatively unknown, and now she's basically the face of Star Wars and will be remembered for the rest of her life. One movie and life is changed forever. Good for her

I thought it was Hayden Christiansen on the right half of the poster and I was really confused as to what they were going for with this movie lol

I think it looks cheap too like someone had to Photoshop this together before the trailer released today. Just lazy execution.

As if it really matters though, Star Wars can do no wrong, just slap the official logo on something and fans will eat it up.

I'll leave the curved edges bit to personal taste, but the white frame is an obvious throwback to vintage Star Wars posters in terms of design. You even included one of them in your original post.

And another...
