A/It's a technological downwards step from the double bladed lightsaber used by Darth Maul over half a century earlier in the Phantom Menace. It's slower & more cumbersome for the same net result.

B/As a collapsible lightsaber, it'll fit into a smaller toy package than the aforementioned Darth Maul one which required a larger box. So that's probably two compressed "Sith Army Knife" boxes on the shelf for every one Darth Maul double bladed saber.

No prizes for guessing where Disney's true priorities are.

The Maul Saber fits fine now, since Hasbro packs the lightsaber split in half. Plus the blades are removable from the hilt, so they can be packaged separately if necessary.

Will he die when the only other iconic remnant from the original trilogy, Millenium Falcon, blows up
or will this be two separate events?

I am not interested enough to pay for a ticket at the movies to find out. I will just read the reviews after it opens
and get my closure on how Chewie and how MilleniumFalcon ends.

C3PO's wiped memory from the end of rots contain th consciousness of the emperor. Palpatine was already confirmed Vader's dad in the comics. Vader built 3po... as a conduit or watchful eye of the emperor on his ... children and grandchildren. It all goes back to the blockade runner.
