I think the beauty of Blizzard RTS games is that they're pretty damn easy to figure out at first glance. And I imagine SC2 will be designed to introduce new players in smart ways.

Also, if this is your first exposure to Blizzard RTS, I think if you give it a chance, you'll love it. Though do yourself a favor and watch the SC1 story cutscenes ZealousD posted in the OP. They're 12 years old and thus very dated looking, but the plot is good and will enhance your SC2 experience almost certainly.

What LaneDS is trying to say here is that if LaneDS can learn StarCraft 2 to some competence, you can too. That is a true story.

In all seriousness though, the single-player challenges should help a lot, and I've been very impressed with the help/tutorial system.

Also Lane, yes I stole your Best Buy picture :O It's so good though!

Yay, ok... just jumped on the hype train and now downloading the digital version.

As someone who practically never played an RTS before (besides some weeks of good ol' C&C Generals) I'm expecting to be disappointed by my lack of patience in trying to learn the game mechanics, but those awesome point n' click parts and the marvelous CG cutscenes hold me back on ignoring it.

Now, with all that said... can someone convince me that I'll love this game (and actually start to love RTSs in general after this?)

If you enjoyed Generals, you'll love SC2 - there's a reason Generals was nicknamed Command & Conquercraft....

It's true, it's all true *sobs*

I'm hopeful once retail starts I'll be able to take replay #1 from February or March and contrast that with replay #600 to show how I went from terrible to slightly not terrible with some practice and lots of GAF reading+cast watching. I think that'd be neat. For me. Possibly for others.

Good point. While I'm still relatively sure it won't require the disc (and will require the login credentials), I'm assuming they'll have no-DVD cracks out promptly for folks in Struct09's position.

Edit- Ugh, double post.

Either way, once you register your copy via Battle.net you'll be able to download it like all other Blizzard titles, so you really don't even need anything but the serial number out of the box I'd guess.

I'm wondering if that means we can do the pre-load from the DD version and install quicker that way? That's ten extra minutes of Starcraft 2!

Not sure if this is accurate, but I heard the client won't even let you install without a key, so if you're getting the boxed copy, might as well just install from the disc.

This is what I'm banking on, and have faith in Blizzard to make it so

Given all their other changes towards Battle.net integration and downloading of even ancient titles you once had disc copies of, it would really boggle the mind if they somehow took a step back and said yes, you need the DVD to play. The flipside, of course, is that you'll need one of those pesky internet connections instead.

Intercontinental play enabled or disabled?

Depends which continents you mean. As discussed earlier, North and South America are grouped as the Americas and will be on the same region, but there are a number of other Battle.net regions that do not allow for cross-continent play. Disappointing for sure.

Since I can't play RTS games in MP (I'm the worst player on the net, and my heart borders on exploding every game), I'm really curious about the SP campaign. Is it supposed to be good/great/awesome in this?

You sound exactly like me...:lol even after so many months of SC2 my heart runs quite fast during matches.

All I would say is that the MP in StarCraft 2 is very easy to pick up and learn...just so hard to master...every match you play you are experiecing something different and learning new things.

I would not hesitate to recommend SC2 to anyone who has never played an RTS in MP mode...or those who have irregular hearts...:lol

I don't have this problem in 2v2, but when I play 1v1 I'm in the same boat. My hand will sometimes be literally shaking after a match ends, even if I win and win easily. It's a little disturbing actually and makes me question whether I should even bother with 1v1.

Sorry, already taken.

To those worried about MP, why not play co-op? Still fun and a good way to tip yourself into the deep end.

Whenever I'm playing a game online, my heart is usually racing but my hands are freezing cold.

Felt that way the first few times I played. I play MMOs and never got that feeling. I guess it's something about knowing you are going one on one with another player in a more direct way compared to other games. Not simply shooting or hitting another player but trying to out think them. That might be the difference.

Man this beta sucks if you are a newb to this game and the genre in general. I loaded into a game and it took me forever just to figure out what the hell was going on. I think I need to play some single player to get the grasp of this. :lol

Anyone know if this one comes with a manual in the retail box? I think I might download it digitally otherwise.

Contact Blizzard's support staff immediately (by phone ideally) to make sure your account hasn't been compromised or anything unfortunate like that. At the very least I'm sure they can get you your password back to you.

7 days til release date? *goes to ebuyer to buy new gpu to replace faulty 5850 that I RMA'd over 2 weeks ago.

I have avoided all starcraft related news since I heard battlenet 2.0 was a kinda crappy compared to battlenet 1.0, is this still the case or will they reimplement those missing features?

*never used battlenet 1.0 but was informed 2.0 doesnt have ingame chat rooms etc...

I have a mbp and I prefer the trackpad over ANY mouse for regular comp stuff. But for sc2, it just doesn't work right. A real mouse is much better for gaming.

Yeah the trackpad on the mb stinks for SC2, when I first started playing the Beta it was mayhem trying to move around

Do you think it's too late to preorder the CE? It's only 1 week away and i bet the preorders for that are already full. :(

I have more hype for the SP than for the MP. Shit is going to be hot. MP is awesome too but damn, it's hard to play Zerg. Wish they were as OP as the Terran.

Amazon still has them apparently. Someone posted this a few pages prior and I was able to order one through them without a hitch, release date delivery via Prime too.

Yes. Gamestop customer service will cancel your in-store preorder and allow you to order a CE online but that is as far as they will go.

I'm leaning towards the N71 right now. I don't do a whole lot of gaming and I don't plan on lugging it around too often. I have a netbook and Nexus One for my mobile computing needs. I also need a new bluray player since my PS3 died.

G51 has a better graphics card and a higher max resolution (despite having a smaller screen). On the other hand i5 is weaker than i7 processor.

I don't want to pre-order online, i want to have the game tuesday, not 5 days later while i wait for shipping. So i'll have to go check the 2 EB Games or Futureshop around where i live.
