State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition

Today, we are thrilled to announce State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition, an expanded and improved version that takes everything you love about State of Decay 2 and adds tons of new content and improvements for veteran and new players alike. Best of all, this is a free, automatic upgrade for all existing owners of State of Decay 2, including all Xbox Game Pass members.

Launching with Xbox Game Pass as well as Steam on March 13 (Friday the 13th!), here are some highlights of the many visual and gameplay improvements included in Juggernaut Edition.

We created a brand-new open world map for players to explore in a rugged logging town named Providence Ridge, and we completely rebuilt the post-tutorial experience to better teach players the key facets of playing State of Decay 2.There’s also a new category of heavy melee weapons that reward player skill and timing, a wide range of graphical improvements (including better lighting and foliage optimization for better performance), and dodge and stealth are now split into separate commands as part of an improved control scheme.

We also fixed dozens of mission and gameplay bugs to ensure a better experience for all players, improved the audio experience, including additional music that doubles the total amount in the game, and more.

Juggernaut Edition also includes all three add-on packs released to date: Independence Pack, Daybreak Pack, and State of Decay 2: Heartland.

And, if you already own Daybreak, Heartland, or purchased the Ultimate Edition of State of Decay 2, we’re sending you some exclusive in-game gifts that won’t be available anywhere else. Simply log in on launch day to collect them! More on that coming later today.

Juggernaut Edition is also available for all Xbox Game Pass members, and launching for the first time on Steam with cross-network play across all platforms. Join Xbox Game Pass, or pre-order now and be ready to join a thriving community of six million survivors!

State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition is the biggest and best State of Decay 2 experience. We can’t wait to share it with you on Friday, March 13.

I enjoyed the first one enough that I felt I missed out on this due to no Xbox this gen. These images and continued support reinforce that feeling. Also, very cool that they are giving exclusives to people who paid for something that now sounds free. I wish ever dev would do that when they include paid dlc in future versions.

You can play it on PC too....

Anyway I never played SoD1, but really like SoD2. It's a very cool game. I'd love to see this series get the true "AAA" treatment to see what they can really do.

Sa-weet! This game is my guilty pleasure. I've logged tons of hours into it and my character and base is so OP right now it's silly. This game was so underrated. If you can look past a few warts and wrinkles it has some very unique ideas and depth. Looking forward to this update.

Not everyone has a gaming pc.

No gaming PC for me, but that's ok. Next gen is almost here anyway. Would be cool if MS confirmed a next gen version that's a genuine MMO with perpetual organic communities / factions (a proper Walking Dead game basically). That could be a game changer for some people on the fence, and apologies if this already exists.

All sites not releasing on Steam day one are all just early access titles. The best version of everything exclusive will be in one place, Steam.

I really liked this at launch but just stopped playing one day and forgot about it. Seems a good time to start again and get some friends involved this time.

I rage quit one day after my only gardener decided to go outside the base on here own and got ripped apart by a lurking Juggernaut and I never went back. I might take another look once this update drops. It's great that Undead are releasing all this new content but I kinda wish they would put all their efforts into a SOD3 rebuilt from the ground up post MS acquisition.

I’m sorry but that actually made me laugh 😂 Stupid gardener, serves her right!

Yeah a new game on a new engine from the ground up would be superb. I found it to be charming but janky.

I spent ages travelling around trying to find a gardening book to train her up as well. Why do books have to be consumable!

The jank was funny at first but after about 20-30 hours in and it becomes really tedious. Basic stuff like base security is a total joke. I spent quite a while picking my second base and chose the bridge due to its reasonable size and central location. It's got two watch towers which I thought would be good to keep a decent Z free perimeter but nooo, even with the watch towers fully manned with good gun skilled people carrying high powered sniper rifles they just stand and watch a travelling horde slowly walk up break down the doors, come in and have a party on the ground floor. Even parking cars right in front of the doors doesn't keep them out for long.

I fucking loved the original and was anticipating the shit out of this one, even bought the ultimate edition even though it was day one to GamePass but it just didn’t grab me like the original. I still need to play Heartland too. I think I’ll jump back in when this launches.

Yeah I think an injection of cash would do a sequel the world of good. Here’s hoping!

Im definitely going to give this another go though, hopefully with friends.

I enjoyed the original State of Decay on Xbox 360 but quit SOD 2 after 15 hours. Too many negatives for me to keep playing plus without a story and preset characters, there was literally no point to keep playing for me. Undead Labs need to build SOD 3 from the ground up, give me back preset characters instead of garbage fake created/random characters and a damn good long main story campaign.

After playing Dying Light and especially Days Gone, State of Decay simply isn't up to par. Except for the base building, everything else regressed from SOD in 2013 to SOD 2 in 2018. Dying Light 2 is within a year away and Days Gone 2 is going to be insane so Undead Labs really need to step up their game. If it's dramatically improved and at least in the 8+ range for me, it will be ignored or dropped.

Shame too because I enjoyed the first SOD so much that I played it instead of TLOU at the time even though TLOU went on to become my 2013 goty and my PS3/360 gotg. On the positive side, they have three more years to get it right.

This 100000000000%%%%%

I loved the first game and the others named. I expected such a better game for this one. Now tho I have no hope for Undead. I hope they can prove me wrong.

Loved the first and the second is even better (especially with co-op).

Question: I bought it new on Xbox, shouldn't I also be able to play it on PC? And is that going to be cross-play with Steam?

One of the biggest and boldest improvements coming to State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition are the remastered graphics. Lighting. Textures. Draw distance. Volumetric fog. Hear from the developers about the process of refreshing the entire look of the entire zombie apocalypse!

Gave this a shot. I really did. Man, did I ever. Sandbox survival town management adventure? How could it fail?

...it is really not a good game. In fact, I would go so far as to say it is a really, really bad game.

Games like these make me sad. There isn't even a modding scene to fix it.

i kinda wanna try this game but i have some question:

how is the general ia for companion or when zombies approach the base? do i have to do all alone because of suicidal\inept ia?

how is the sense of progression? do you feel any noticeable difference going on?

what is the ratio for third person gameplay and base managment gameplay?

is the base management too complicated for people like me who almost never play management games?

why people in this topic says that this sequel is worst compared to the first game?

thanks.

I loved the first game so much. Played the original several times and then even picked up the year one edition and played some more. I could only stand to play State of Decay 2 once. I want to try it again with the new edition, thankfully a free upgrade this time, but I just don't feel like it. SOD2 is just not nearly as good as SOD. They clearly did not understand what made the first game good and enhanced stuff that that didn't matter.

I know exactly what it's supposed to be, it just isn't fun. The vehicles are made of glass, use terrible amounts of fuel for basic activities, weapons break in minutes, recruiting takes forever, you spend most of your time travelling instead of playing the game, the stamina system kills any pacing, the inventory limits are from the 80s, enemies respawn infinitely and indefinitely so there's no point to killing anything, special zombies completely kill any chance of a Romero-like experience, the base building is basic as all hell and managing your "town" is just a gathering simulator.

It's like every second step the game goes "hey, we saw you were almost having fun...here's some arbitrary bullshit to stop that happening".

The first game had a tiny budget, but I don't know what the second game's excuse is.

The ai is at least passable, and they go collecting stuff when you're not controlling them. I believe they also get better as you use them and improve their stats.

The progression isn't amazing but you do get to "buy" better bases as your community grows and as you use each character their various stats like shooting, fighting, cardio and stealth improve and can be specialised.

99% of the game is third person and the management side consists of having specific plots within your base and having to decide what to build on them, like workshops, farms, hospitals and such.

If you do play, crossbows are a really good choice of weapon as they never break or jam and the ammo can generally be picked up after you've killed a zombie.

Loved the OG game, picked up the Ultimate physical edition of this but was disappointed in it overall despite several needed QoL improvements over the first. Looks like it might finally have enough content to jump back in.

How realistic is this game for a strictly SOLO player? I loved the first one but I heard that they made dumb design ideas in this one making gameplay not fun overall.
