Not sure about playtime, but no, you can't get achievements while offline in my experience.

Playtime won't be tracked offline. Achievements - its up to the individual game, some work offline, some don't.

I've had achievements tracked offline, but I'm not sure why when others say they haven't. Either it's on a game by game basis or it's something like you need to have played that game online at least once before it'll track achievements offline (which then sync when you go back online).

Ok, Thanks. I was just curious about it...

You can but it depends on the game.

The only game I've played offline that has achievements is The Walking Dead, and I didn't get any achievements while I did it. I had to play through the last episode again to get them ;~;

i seem to be the only person left with this problem, but offline mode is still hit-or-miss for me. after the "steam could not connect to the internet, retry/start in offline mode" option, i click start in offline mode, and it says "could not connect to the network" and closes.

That's what happened to me last time. :(

Have you tried disabling your network completely?

Finally got around to playing Dishonored and I have to say I'm pretty disappointed so far.

The game seems to encourage stealth but then gives you barebones options to achieve it. Like limiting sleep darts and having absolutely zero in combat, non-lethal moves except sleep darts. Not even like a dual takedown like in deus ex for when two guards are near each other.

All the while the combat side is pretty fun but the game is clearly trying to discourage it due to its story emphasizing power corrupts.

I'm on the second level, mission or whatever and I'm not sure I have any interest left since I hate playing the bad guy in games so I don't want to actually kill people. Does it get any better on a stealth run??

There is only one way to play Dishonered : Full on murder simulator

yep. only way i got it working was to turn my network back on, wait a minute for steam itself to come back, let the client open and connect, THEN switch to offline mode.

obviously this wouldnt but an option if i really had no internet or if steam went down for an extended period

some questions

are the following sites reliable?
Day One Garry's Incident for 2euros?
https://www.g2a.com/day-one-garry-s-incident-steam-cd-key-eu.html?reflink=dayone

g2a seems fishy, why not get the bundlestars brutal bundle that contains Day One (and might even be the source) for only slightly more?

Viva Pinata for 10dollars?

and has anyone seen this bundle lol

I have a hard time describing a site that would sell a game that will shortly become unplayable due to GFWL (Viva Pinata) as "reliable". If you were in the US instead of SG, I would send you my copy for the price of shipping.

Quick question guys as I'm freaking out...

I just got a random error while converting a file to another format and now my desktop folder is empty. My desktop has nothing but shortcut icons left. I had tons of work documents on my desktop... I'm running Windows 8.1.

Any ideas?

Man, I am really enjoying the pirate theme in AC IV. Are there other games on Steam I should look out for? For that matter, are there other 3rd person games that have a historical bent? I find myself really enjoying just wandering around.

Define "random error" and "converting a file"?
Also, check "This PC\Desktop" in windows explorer.

No unfortunately, that game never made it to Steam at all, so it's strictly a GFWL game, not a hybrid like Batman.

It's a great game, for all ages, which makes the whole situation more of a shame.

Ripping an .mp3 from an .avi for work. I got a "desktop error" window and then my screen flashed and everything on my desktop was gone. I restarted and then only shortcuts were there and my desktop folder was empty. Everything else on my PC is fine though.

Ozgameshop is very legit. They are the "Australian" arm of 365 games (uk) and I've been purchasing from them for many years (albeit mostly physical games).

Their download store is actually worth a look for the occasional deal. http://www.ozgameshop.com/stores/email-codes ($40 Dark Souls 2 preorder)

Sorry, no idea. Couldn't find anything similar to it either.
Were you ripping the mp3 to desktop and might the program have deleted it's "work dir" contents on crashing?

I was ripping it to desktop. I don't know if it deleted the contents upon crashing but it sure looks that way... Ugh, I'm gonna be sick.
