I was ripping it to desktop. I don't know if it deleted the contents upon crashing but it sure looks that way... Ugh, I'm gonna be sick.

... Ouch.
Did you check the recycle bin?
Otherwise, you might check out Win 8's File History option.
That should keep backups of your Desktop, if it's turned on.
(Of course, if you're like me, you never turned it on, and this is the one new feature that isn't turned on by default it seems)

I didn't unfortunately... I decided to use a Data Recovery program. It found everything and I'm in the process of doing that now. I have my fingers crossed. Thanks for answering my frantic questions.

No problem. Hope it manages to recover everything.
I've been there, and it's not fun.

You could also use the Portable version of recuva: http://www.piriform.com/recuva/builds

Download to a USB and run it from there. Saved me from some troubles (but it's never enough anyway).

And, please, don't use your Desktop as a place to put files on. That's just trash sitting on your C:\ harddrive.

Ripping an .mp3 from an .avi for work. I got a "desktop error" window and then my screen flashed and everything on my desktop was gone. I restarted and then only shortcuts were there and my desktop folder was empty. Everything else on my PC is fine though.

If it hasn't just done something like turn all your stuff into hidden files which is easily undone. And you can;t find stuff with a search then use Recuva to see if it can get some/most back.

Important thing though is that the less stuff you allow to write to the drive that the data was lost from the better. Basically, stop doing anything, even browse the net as little as possible until you finish being in data recovery mode.

There are still the in-game character achievements, some monster logs and a few items to unlock, but feels good to have it "completed" on Steam. :)

PS The Saints Row IV - Child´s Play Pack is now gone.

Now to wait a week and sell my three spares for a small profit.

I never finished RE4, Im a bad person ;(

I played the opening five minutes about a decade ago and... that's it.

Valve has that options available to set up region specific apps with certain names. Capcom just doesn't know it exists or refuses to use it.

Missed opportunity there, Capcom. Think of all the extra money you could have made from me!

They don't usually impose their corporate philosophies on other companies they work with, correct?

Set up a satellite company specifically for customer service or find one that is already available, and acquire it.

Valve doesn't really operate like this, but it is certainly an alternative to a real problem.

If Valve ever did begin to outsource support I'd throw my hat into the ring and point to GAF. I mean, I don't have any professional experience in direct customer support roles but, for Wheelman, I'd try anything... assuming, of course, external support staff also received the Steam Master sub (the Steam Press sub would be okay, too, even though it lacks Wheelman, as it does have a bunch of pulled games, such as Outrun). ;)

some questions

are the following sites reliable?
Day One Garry's Incident for 2euros?
https://www.g2a.com/day-one-garry-s-incident-steam-cd-key-eu.html?reflink=dayone
Viva Pinata for 10dollars?
http://www.ozgameshop.com/pc-games/viva-pinata-game-pc

and has anyone seen this bundle lol

OzGameShop is legit. It's UK-based and specialises in helping Aussies avoid the Aussie Tax by way of cheaper games and free shipping. I'll probably order a copy of Viva Pinata within the next few weeks.

but but it's GFWL... it doesn't increase your gamecount right

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

If I worked at Valve (and I hope someday I will) and we were setting up a new support center, I'd recommend you for the job.

<3 Even if it didn't come with the Valve employee perks I'm sure it'd be better than my current job. ;)

Very true, but my hope is that the game will come to Steam at some point between now and July, in which case either the key would be made Steam-friendly or I could nag Microsoft for such a key. If my optimism is misplaced then I've only wasted $10.

Congrats! I'm still missing 3 achievements but I dont think I have the patience to hunt them donw.
Thanks, Panda! The one that ended up being most time consuming to me was "Sleepin' With The..." (Drown 20 Whorls), as you have to go all the way to the third stage, hope it's Underwater Catacombs instead of Frozen Tundra, then have the Whorls keep spawning appropriately so you can slam them to the pits (I found that HAN-D was the best for the job). Thankfully it doesn't need to be done in a single run.

After that "Don't Mind If I Do" (Unlock a golden chest with the Explorer's Key) took me a bit too, until I decided to just restart the first stage until it gave me a Explorer's Key.

I have to say I'm glad they didn't put the character specific achievements in the Steam ones, some of those are definitely a pain in the ass (probably more doable in co-op though).

How much is Banner Saga in the USA steam ?

it is ....strangely expensive for an indie game here
Worth every penny if they have to use it to fight the King.com asstards.
There should be a pro bono legal defense that involves just walking into a courtroom, pointing at the opposition and going "Your honor, those guys are being asshole dickheads. Make them stop.", which in cases like this would automatically make you win the case.

That makes me wonder, what would you do next when you really got all the games on Steam?

My joke answer would be Origin/Uplay, but in all seriousness if I ever do reach the point where I no longer need to actively chase Steam games and could keep on top of things simply by waiting for the occasional sale I'd probably just start putting more money away, or maybe a bit of that and a bit of GOG collecting (that wooden shelf does look nice).

I'm tempted to sic Coca-Cola on them for use of the word Crush.

Why not start an orphanage?

Holy fuck, are they actually going after people for using the words "Candy" and "Saga" in game titles? This is the kind of thing that makes me wish for the zombie apocalypse. Fight Club had it right.

Saga
Square's SaGa/SaGa Frontier series
Mars Saga
Metal Saga
Rastan Saga
Unbound Saga
Farland Saga
The 7th Saga
Culdcept Saga
Bit.Trip Saga
Sigma Star Saga
Forgotten Saga
God of War Saga
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Etc, etc, etc, etc. There are literally hundreds of games with the Saga in the name.

I hope they're cool with paying a lot of other people's legal fees if it escalates

Or maybe, you could start playing them?

First you get the games, then you get the power, then you get the women.
I wanted to find a Saoirse gif through google to respond to you, but having a wall of her face on my browser looks weird, so I gave up.

I love the events in the aGoT mod for CKII

I'm missing drowning the Whorls, dealing 5k damage in one shot and collecting 4 keycards.

Does Hitman Absolution have any game breaking DLC like Sleeping Dogs?

I may get the DLC bundle since it's so cheap.

I regretted buying Sleepy Dog's XP DLC. I'd read that the police (and triad?) experience could be a bit of a grind to max out so I opted to buy an XP pack, only my collector's bug kicked in and I bought both, which, uh, was overkill -- combined they added 13,750 triad XP, 7,500 police XP and 7,500 face XP. IIRC, I went from level 2/3 across the board to a couple of level 9s and one level 10.

Why not start an orphanage?

Haha, well, the reason I mentioned in the past would no longer be of import so it is a possibility. :p

Or maybe, you could start playing them?

Blasphemy!

Sounds like my homepage. :p
(My homepage is the Firefox default. I'm boring like that.)

Something similar happened to me. I bought the XP DLC when Steam had that price error without knowing a thing about the game's DLC (buy first, think later).

I really regret it, so I'm not buying any Square-Enix DLC without double checking.

Ozgameshop is a fantastic place to shop at. That said, Viva Pinata might be unplayable in the near future due to GFWL.

You mean, Microsoft wouldn't provide the fix? Plus, even if they didn't, as long as you have GFWL (download it right now and install it and then just don't do anything with it), you can play any game. It has an offline mode, so shutting GFWL down shouldn't affect that, right?

That was only meant for UK? Umm...

sYLCSap.jpg

Unless it came out of beta, there's a portion of the FAQ that says it should be for UK people only. Did you spoof a UK address when you signed up for GMG?

WTF:

January £3.55

December 2013 £0.50

30 Dec '13 You have opted-in for emails about news, competitions and more £0.50

And yet... I have 0 account balance and none of it has transferred to GMG. Am I missing something?
Do you guys have a CARD address on file at GMG?
Is it a US address?

8 games down for the month of January so far. I feel so proud of myself. Only 850 more games to go.

That's almost 1% (0.94% to be precise) backlog clearance! nicely done. Good to see other people actually play their backlogs instead of just moaning about its size, especially here on steamgaf :p

I've the same issue, but I think my problem is due to my playfire account being set to a different email address than my GMG account.

(I'm from the UK for reference, so it isn't a country issue for me at least)
