Steam Greenlight: 1000 games and counting, more Greenlit every few weeks

I've been keeping an eye on the original 100 that were Greenlit last month...the oddest part being that a majority of them have not given any updates as to when or what they're planning for a Steam release, and one in particular has been banned due to terms of service violations (sZone-Online).

I guess the news came too late for some of these devs who'd rather move onto their next project, or something? Just find it curious.

Nice list. I'm pretty bummed The Real Texas hasn't been greenlit. It was one of the earlier submissions too. Being such an early submission I feel like if it didn't get greenlit early on when there was barely any competition, it probably won't be now but I hope I'm wrong! Pretty awesome top down adventure game that I think deserves a bit more attention.

Is there a way to stack an entire collection to your queue? Because right now I'm just opening every single one into a different tab and it's a pain in the ass. The entire Greenlight section seems so badly designed.

I noticed that a number of them acknowledged their Greenlit status either in the comments or in places outside of Steam like their web site, forums, and/or Twitter. Project Black Sun didn't mention it anywhere except for their Twitter, and according to the comments of Shantae: Risky's Revenge, Wayforward acknowledged it on Twitter and later said in (I believe) the Kickstarter comments that they need to free up a programmer to port it.

The case of sZone Online is an odd one indeed. The Google cache page shows that the game had a DMCA takedown notice filed against it, presumably after it was Greenlit, but it doesn't say who filed it. It sounds like the game used to be titled STALKER Online, but they changed it (somewhat sloppily) to sZone Online back in January 2013.

A cursory search of their forums didn't turn up any information directly related to the banning, though I did notice something possibly related in their forum's news section. An administrator was warning people about a fake clone game that used assets from sZone, the alleged fake carrying the name Stalker Online (located at a website with a .su domain). The sZone admin insists that the fake tried to pass themselves off as real using faked documents, and that the "courts will decide" on the matter. If we assume that the admin is telling the truth, and the case is currently in a court, the creators of the alleged fake could be the prime suspects for the filing.

Eh, whatever the case, if the sZone people are innocent of any wrongdoing, it might be unbanned eventually.

Yeah, I got The Real Texas when it was in an Indie Royale bundle, and from what I played of it, it seemed like a pretty good game. It gets its influences from Zelda (Well, more Ganpuru, to be more accurate) and Ultima, but it still felt quite unique. Drox Operative is another one I'd really like to see on Steam (Free-roaming space game, Diablo crossed with Civ, from the makers of Depths of Peril), but I'm not sure if it has the audience to make it.

Yeah, The Real Texas is really getting overlooked by everyone.. I hate it. It's such a gem. Please vote for it.

Ah, that would explain quite a bit about szone. Hope they can get that sorted out.

I played through it a few weeks ago through GoG, I've got a vague intent to write an LTTP for it if I can articulate my thoughts adequately.

It really does deserve to have more people try it out; I don't think it quite manages all its goals, but I love it for trying.

Still no DROD? Boo!

Some of the fundamental problems are the same, developers don't know if their game is going to be on Steam before they start the development or at least in the early stages of it, so they might be inclined to pursue opportunities on other platforms where they know if they're going to have their game released. The interface that users interact with to browse and vote for games is very slow and unintuitive, steering people away from participating in the process.

I don't know about anyone else but I get updates about The Stanley Parable pretty frequently in my activity feed. They are far from radio silent, although it's mostly humour mixed with a few hints that the project is progressing as expected.

Looking forward to some of those games, but completely agree. I imagine deep down in their own forums there might be something along the lines of a thank you. Silly not to use the tools given to you :/

Yeah, there are a few that are still doing updates but have not acknowledged their Greenlight, as far as I could tell.
 
I know that MangaGamer commented about Higurashi being greenlit, as there was an article on VNTLS about how they're considering re-translating the game for the Steam release. So if they decided to go ahead with that, it'll probably be delayed a fair bit.

Also, my suggestion for a game to vote for would be Death Road to Canada. The developers have previously worked on a bunch of iOS games (Super Quickhook, Mage Gauntlet, Punch Quest) that are pretty damn good, and now they're working on a PC game because... well that's the trend for indie mobile developers nowadays. It's basically a hybrid between an adventure game and a roguelike -- with zombies (of course)... and Gaben?!

Manga Gamer acknowledged it's been greenlight and said they're going to edit the game once more before putting it on Steam. (The original editing is pretty bad so this is a good thing.)
 
Wayforward made a comment about Shantae: Risky's Revenge being greenlit in a post (or a comment) on their Kickstarter for Half-Genie Hero. Can't find a link but the gist being they would look at porting/releasing it on Steam after the Kickstarter ended.

But yeah, I agree. It's weird they don't at least acknowledge it in a update post on the greenlight page.

It's odd looking up some of these, I'm a bit lazy in cross referencing greenlight dates with update dates.
 
Removed a few of those that people have mentioned (although, again, giving an interview to a third party website is really weird when you could just post "Thank you for your support!")

I actually would imagine Manga Gamer doesn't know you can do news posts looking at the Greenlight page. It is primarily a Japanese company that farms out translations.

Hm? The Stanley Parable has posted 17 updates since being Greenlit, and recently announced a release date of October 2013 in their latest trailer. The dev acknowledged the Greenlight status on Twitter. As for Contrast, while they missed their original Early 2013 release window, they still have been pretty active on their Greenlight page, with announcements (like signing a publishing deal with Focus), and an active AMA in their Greenlight forum.

The rest with updates:
Dead State - Acknowledged on their forums, where they've been primarily posting updates.
Haunted Memories - Not much in the way of updates, though they added an Early Access store page a few weeks ago.
Battle Nations - Acknowledged on their forums. They're optimistic that they can bring it over quickly.
Blockland - Acknowledged on their forums. No ETA though.
Shantae: Risky's Revenge - Matt Bozon acknowledged it on Twitter, later they mentioned it in the HGH KS comments. ETA: The later confirmed on Twitter that it would be ported in a few months, after they free up a programmer.
The Impossible Game - The dev retweeted a Tweet mentioning the GL status. No ETA so far.
Blockscape - They mentioned the Steam release a few times in some @ replies. People who already own it are getting Steam keys. Needs less bugs and more features before a Steam release. Early Access when the current community is happy with the game's state. They've also been pretty active with the snapshot updates on the game's forums.
Heroes and Generals - They've been in open beta for the past year. Steam mentioned in one of their dev Q&As. Seems like they're working to eliminate many of the bugs before putting it on Steam.
No More Room in Hell - They updated their description to acknowledge it, and their web site has been periodically updated with closed beta news.

So, that leaves these as the quiet ones:

The Intruder - Last update was in March 2013. Apparently, the dev was working on it when he had some time, though he was also doing a full-time internship at a game studio.

I can see your point for the most part, it isn't that tough to do one announcement on the Greenlight page with something like "Thanks for Greenlighting us! Keep up with the latest news on our game's website/forums/blog/Twitter/Kickstarter/Myspace!" The Greenlight pages of many games where the devs updated at a separate location are rife with comments expressing confusion over the game's current status. If a dev is going to update elsewhere, at least try to mitigate the confusion by making an announcement directing the audience to where they're posting the latest news.
 
I still wonder why some Games even "need" to be on Steam like those F2P-Onlinegames.
I mean dont they usually still have their own launcher?

And Slendermans Shadow. How many other "Slender"-Games are currently on GL?
And Vox looks kinda like a Cube World Ripoff.
