I'm considering buying Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. What say you, steamgaf? Worth it? Not worth it? Does it need extensive patching to make it work optimally?

All I've heard is praise for the game, mainly from the dialog and writing. Get it if you like Computer RPG with good emphasis on that.

Because of the hardware they were originally released on. Melty Blood for example had its base game re-released when it got rebalances etc.

I'm about to refund Gungeon for being buggy with controller support. It keeps dropping my controller connection. I'm using it on my GPD Win, Xbox 360 controller mode. Ridiculously annoying and makes the game completely unplayable.

For Melty Blood case I believe it has to do with it being a PS2 era game. The others might be a mix of that plus reusing assets and code to move development quickly.

Well it's ok but textures don't stay true to the original. Like small bricks in the upper central part of the first image are substituted for by large bricks in HD mod.
Pic.2 - the painting in the distance is completely different etc. I understand it may be very hard or even impossible to make lossless recovery but the end result may be too far from RE4.

i don't think it did, there's probably an unofficial patch or something, but it's not a skyrim situation or whatever

i like arcanum a lot, it's got a really interesting world and some really good quests. it's also got like pretty fucking huge cities, which is THE BEST for classic crpgs

it's a super duper classic rpg tho, so know what you're getting into

The thing is that I want most of the 2D fighters out there. I dont regret refunding Blade Arcus tho. That had to be the most boring game Ive played this year.

yeah i noticed that too, guess they couldn't find the original textures so they have to resort to using their own, a lot of textures are really faithful to the original though that I don't know they did it, so I'm not complaining, another option is leaving those textures the way they were but it would look jarring

Ive never had a problem with controller support. Ive used Ps4, XBONE and 360 to test.

It can be pretty hardcore, but you can quicksave and quickload all you want (at least on the medium difficulty setting)
Really similar to the Commandos games (or Desperados) though I think it's a bit more forgiving than those titles were.

I can't believe how good SOMA is. 6 hours in now I especially like that there isn't a monster chasing you constantly. That made me stop playing Alien Isolation. There is more exploring and puzzle solving than running and hiding. Also looks really good.

Received an Xbox Elite controller for Christmas. Was hoping to pair it to my new PC via Bluetooth to play wirelessly, but it doesn't seem to be connecting.

I'm running Win 10, so I thought the controller connected that way. Hmm.

Gotta investigate. Definitely hoping it connects to my Steam Link when it shows up tomorrow.
