This really came out of no where, hope he's okay. More importantly, I hope my Apple overlords have a good idea of the near and distant future, because if it's the 90's again, I'm not sure what I'd do.

Sounds like they'll need a new COO. I know a guy with some experience.

It's time to play the game...
Time to play the game! hahaha

It's all about the game and how you play it.
All about control and if you can take it.
All about your debt and if you can pay it.
It's all about pain and who's gonna make it.

I am the game, you don't wanna play me.
I am control, no way you can change me.
I am heavy debt, no way you can pay me.
I am the pain and I know you can't take me.

Look over your shoulder, ready to run.
Like a good little bitch, from a smokin gun.
I am the game and I make the rules.
So move on out here and die like a fool.
Try to figure out what my moods gonna be.
Come on over sucker, why don't you ask me?
Don't you forget that the price you can pay
Cause I am the game and I want to play....

Your gonna be the same
Your gonna change your name
Your gonna die in flames

I think Apple will do fine with Ive and Cook still there. Most sad part about this is the fact that Steve's health has probably declined significantly :(

hopefully not the people who thought that iCal's leather and paper skin was attractive.

Well that's the thing isn't it, they don't have a sw designer to match Ive's gorgeous hardware. All their graphic design aside from Cover Flow is so tacky and inconsistent - Calendar, Time Machine, cloth surface, Game Center... It's almost as if job offers for Windows Phone design head and Apple UI design head got swapped in mail.

It's a light, simple computer that does what most people need on a daily basis.

No, just stop please...

Think about if all you had was an iPad and no other computing device.

There are cheaper alternatives to the iPad that are at least $100s cheaper and have more functionality than an iPad. The iPad and these other tablets are being used for massive media consumption. They primarily for entertainment more than anything else.

Nice to see we arent even going to wait 24 hours to retcon how huge the guy is icon wise for both the company and to the media. Ridiculous to suggest consumers know no more of Job than some other companies CEO. Absurd when you consider the last 3 decades of a love affair (not always but mostly) that the mainstream MEDIA has had with the guy, the same mainstream media that this average consumer gets their information from.

But yeah sure, hes just some guy, noone really knows who he is, nor cares. Keep telling yourself that as every news channel, every tech related blog every facebook page and tweet with even a remote connection to the tech industry spends the next month or more Eulogizing this mans career.

I never said he wasn't well-known among CEOs, but it's a fallacy to assume that because you or the media follow technology news that the average consumer also does.

Fixed!

From what I've read, Cook sounds like a highly inteligent... executive. This is not the kind of person that should lead Apple. Jobs should have found a new visionary to lead the company and leave Cook & co to run the company. Unless Jobs continues working to some extent, I won't be surpised if stagnation or decline in sales and revenue occurs after some time.

You're thinking really short term. It's hard to imagine software 5 to 10 years in the future.

And just like any electronics device, it varies from user to user.

I would say 75% of the people that own computers only use it for the web and entertainment.

Tobor's actually kind of right.

Going into the future, an iPad will do what 95% of computer users need it to do...

This depends on what you mean by 95% of computer users. Are we lumping in the gargantuan desktop corporate or business market in this? Because if so, that couldnt be more wrong. Businesses will still be using desktops for a very long time. Hell these days, with netbooks, the very niche gamers pc market, Tablets and laptops, the desktop market is probably dominated by businesses and not the average consumer. The individual has so many other options than a desktop now.

You're an idiot.

Turn on your television. Report back to what us what you see and hear.

Wow, reel in the nerd rage a bit! I also would be loath to use television media as a metric for anything of value. They feed on sensationalism, you know.

OR, they sell, and then buy back when it's even cheaper?

The only people who can do that are the people who can afford to do it. Seeing as most of the investors in Apple are people who decided to ride the gravy train a bit to late. :P

Exactly. What I said isn't even that controversial, but I can see how tech minded people might get upset at the idea.

An iPad is good enough for:

-Googling things and surfing
-communicating on social media
-listening to music
-watching movies
-playing games
-writing emails.

That makes it a good enough computer for most people out there...
Those who aren't writing books*, creating graphics, editing audio or using other advanced creation tools. Or advanced games, of course.

*Even then, get a bluetooth keyboard.

Indeed. His departure was already priced into the stock and as the market for the day shows, they are fine with the move as there was only a 1 hour dip which was quickly filled with bargain hunters and the stock ended high on the day.
Already priced into the stock? See ya tomorrow.

This is an Apple topic. Rational thought and reason have no place in here!

I agree with everything you said.

So... that's why Apple has been suing everyone... because that's the only way they'll get by!
j/k

Seriously now, even though I don't like Apple's behavior lately (from "upgrades" made new again and all the suing issues) I admire Steve Jobs, because he was the pioneer of MP3 players and (even if he didn't invent them at all) Touch UI beginning with the Touchable Wheel in the iPod to the iOS in the iPhone... and that's without counting all of his previous achievements with Pixar!

Farewell Jobs... it's time for Google to take over you!

Man, it's something you expect, but never thought you would read. My personal feelings of Apple notwithstanding, the man was brilliant and deserved every iota of success he and the company had. Like many have said, this doesn't bode well for his health, which is quite sad. He's still relatively young, and has a great mind. Now I'm just waiting for the next news story to follow in a year or two. I never saw an executive who "loved" his company as much as he did. No way he would have stepped down if there was a chance he could fully recover, in my opinion.

Replacing a visionary with a businessman leads to, well, just look at Microsoft. Not a lot they can do really, visionaries aren't just lying around. Still, a sad day.

I'm sure it'll drop further still.
Yeah truthfully I only would want to invest no more than 1000-1500' so I want to wait as much as I can to maximize the rebound. Granted it may just be worth waiting till the next iPad to dump, it's not like much worse could happen to the stock between now and then.
