It amuses me that after a gazillion iPads sold and dozens of clones from virtually every single hardware maker out there, people still come up with this stuff.

Denial at its finest.

Mind putting into writing what your theory on "priced in" is exactly, so we have something to look at tomorrow?

I'm pretty sure the secret of his resignation was crazy guarded and nobody other than a few people knew before it was announced.

It is. Very sad news, hope his health holds up.
I think Jobs only has a few years left in him.

Survivors of pancreatic cancer are very few.

Might as well enjoy life before the inevitable end.

So at least it seems that nothing is really changing from how the company has operated, for the most part, for the last four or so years.

I'm much more concerned about Jobs's health. Love him or dislike him, it's a very sad day to see such a strong man and one of America's great entrepreneurs admit weakness as he did in that letter.

Wow...the reverberations from Jobs stepping down are going to be wild and unpredictable going forward---there's really no telling what moves are made from here on in the wake of it from the entire lot of them.

Just wondering, during what period of time was steve jobs initially gone from apple? was it through the 90s?
it was when the US was still under the yoke of colonial rule. With Russia's help. Jobs vanquished Ireland from our lands and instituted a means of government they knew could only maintain for 235 years, until the Tea Party rose and reignited racial and class tensions amongst the population.

the revolution is now.

The iPhone is certainly his finest hour for me. Maybe the first Mac was a bigger deal, but it's hard for me to gauge something I was not aware of at the time.

Incredibly sad news, Jobs was such a great CEO. I just hope his successor isn't a complete tool.

Here's to hoping Apple doesn't just fall to utter shit now.

what? lol...

i'm really resisting not to sell my apple stock....i know i shouldnt...please tell me (in the long run) that i'm making sense by not selling

Just matters for Apple fanboys and stock owners, etc. Rest of consumers don't care about who is CEO in certain company.

I went with the Mom test... my Mom knows who Steve Jobs is... I doubt my Mom could name another CEO in existence today.... it matters.... and she's not some crazed Apple Yuppie either.

It was certainly his best keynote. The original iPhone keynote was epic. I remember The Live GAF thread vividly.

LOL, what? What exactly am I in denial about? That the iPad is a proper replacement for a computer?

Don't you even need a computer for the iPad the work?

You guys saying "hope he's ok" or "hope it isn't his health" don't make sense. The only reason he would resign is if he's in dire straits. Not trying to be morbid but he probably has very little time left. I hope I'm wrong of course but let's be realistic.

Sell. Then buy back more. then laugh at everyone who is poorer than you.

Just relax and wallow in the copious denial in this thread.

My dad doesn't even own a computer and he told me the news.

If Apple goes to shit straight away, then Steve was not a great CEO. He should, and most likely has, set the company up for years to come, and unless Cook chooses to do a complete U-Turn on Job's ideas from the past decade the company should run safely on what Steve put in place for years to come.

It should be 2 years, at least, until Cook's solely made decisions affect the company in either a good or bad way.

You do need a computer to activate it, but that requirement will dissapear after iOS5 update.

Just go find something else to do for the next couple of days. Never sell out of fear... in fact never have fear when investing.

Really sad news, I think it's safe to assume that Steve Jobs wouldn't resign unless he was in really bad shape health-wise. I hope he pulls through this.

I can't say I'm surprised, but wow, what a sad day.

I'm not sad about the future of Apple (it'll be fine), but for the health of Jobs.

Let the guy retire. He earned it.

He's quitting while on top. Good move. I would have been pretty hard to top the success they've had with the iPhone and iPad. Where else could they go?

He did an amazing job.

Right now you do, once iOS5 comes out you won't.

Dude, the stock was $355 earlier this week and only jumped on the Sprint news. I can see $330 or lower tomorrow...easily...

That was a really interesting piece. It's not that things were terrible without Jobs, which is usually how the tale is told, they just weren't anywhere near as spectacular.
I remember the perception of Apple in the 90s. A wierd dinosaur sliding into ever-deeper obscurity.

That they took over the super-cool world of music, movies, social relations, games... it's just a mindblowing transition.

The thing to keep in mind is this: Apple tomorrow, a week from now, and next month is the exact same Apple from yesterday, a week ago, and last month. Tim Cook wasn’t named “CEO” until today, but he’s been the chief executive at the company since Jobs started this — his third — medical leave back in January, and probably even before that. Whatever Steve’s role is going forward, it’s only different in title than what it has been, in effect, for some time.

Whoa, and I was just reading some details of his history earlier today, including his leaves to take care of his health. Dude has the magic touch, best of luck to him.
