What I like about this photo (and Jobs) is that it shows one of the wealthiest men alive isn't above wearing ripped jeans and sneakers. I'm not saying he doesn't have his share of eccentric quirks but at least he isn't petty when it comes to attire.

Having read books about Jobs, it's pretty obvious he doesn't care about superfluous things like daily clothing. He's got more of a "big picture" mindset.

He is - or was at least - a very handsome man. His taste in clothes may be simple (even if not inexpensive), but that's another matter :)
 
He was pretty good looking as a youngster, but man that change from 07 to 08 is drastic. Overall health decline was almost scary to see, when he finally showed up in public.

Is there any truth to the Apple logo having something to do with the bible's tree of knowledge and eve taking a bite from the fruit (apple say) of the tree.. kinda interesting.

Though that kinda contradicts the original Newton logo thing.

Nope. The bite is just so it would be recognized as an Apple.
 
Me and a friend were just debating the importance of dressing well for company heads. Hearing about that sweater costing that much is making me cringe so motherfucking hard.

I just mean from a gazillion-aire perspective. Expensive clothes and what not. I'm not saying people shouldn't care about their appearances. Just that there's this stigma that wealth means buying expensive clothes. That's the petty attitude I'm talking about.

They have an Apple as their logo because of the story of an Apple falling on Isaac Newton's head. Their original logo was this crazy fully illustrated scene of it. Google "Original Apple logo".

Because he turned around a company from on the brink of collapse to the most powerful technology company in the world with a string of revolutionary products. He has done much more than Bill Gates ever did or ever could do.

Steve Jobs has something that most if not all in the IT business don't have, he's charasmatic. Bill Gates is the stereotype, Steve Jobs is the misfit with that said Bill also didn't have to 'save' Microsoft. He build Microsoft and he has done many great things that people acknowledge him for but Steve Jobs did not only save Apple he made it one of the most influential and wealthy companies on the planet. Microsoft also never leveraged 'Bill Gates' as a brand in the way Steve Jobs is an Apple brand. In fact Steve Jobs is Apple.

Yeah all Gates did was be a founder of Microsoft, help create the most popular OS in the world and create the largest private foundation in the world with the aim of improving healthcare and reducing poverty around the world while pledging to give most of his money to charity and convincing other billionaires to do the same.

His clothing image is one of the most calculated in CEO history. He wears the same damn getup all the time for a reason. He very obviously gives a shit about daily clothing.

And then there is the hype... the hype for a product that is not even announced yet. Whenever I enter an Apple store I feel like I'm surrounded by gay. All those 'desgn' frantic fashionistas... wow. I even study architectural engineering and a huge part of my study was architecture. I tried a Mac for design purposes and was left with even more questionmarks on the subject of Mac's beeing superior to other OS's in the design department (PhotoShop etc.). I can't beleive this myth is still alive.

In my eyes, iWare = Call of Duty. Same shit, different day and while people know it's the same shit on a different day, they keep buying it.

No.

There was a point in his career where he truly didn't give a shit and wore whatever.

Then, one day, he made the active decision to wear nothing but the turtleneck, jeans and trainers.

How anyone can interpret this as "not giving a shit" is mindblowing. Image is everything to this guy. He's a designer. He thinks in terms of what the end user sees. His famous outfit is a part of that.

That's not it either. Steve cares to not have to care. I mean, it's like pretty much everything he picks for himself. By putting forth the initial effort to decide that from this point on you are going to have exactly one outfit consisting of things that you enjoy wearing. It's a decision to do something important now, once, and never have to worry about it again. Not only is it utilitarian in that sense, but it also makes him unique, sets him apart yet groups him with past geniuses - It's part of his signature. That's how much he cares about clothing.

I'm like 75% sure he actually said himself at one point that it's because he doesn't want to decide what to wear every day. Though I'm sure the fact that it gained iconic status helped it naturally. But I recall him saying that at one point.

Very sad to see this man fade away, I certainly wish him and his family all the best. I'd love to get a glimpse 5 years into the future to see what will be going on at Apple.

Edit: Did some more research so I'm not as certain as I was that it was entirely influenced by Einstein. Apparently, the idea that Einstein had seven sets of the same clothes was based somewhat on truth but is in itself not entirely true. He might have had the idea but history seems to show that he didn't stick to it. Maybe Jobs just took the idea and ran with it.

However, I stand by the sentiment that Jobs was the kind of person who decided at some point that a black turtleneck, jeans, black socks and sneakers was good enough for most any occasion. Once he made that decision, he stuck with it and relieved himself of ever having to bother with the trivial task of deciding what to wear every day.

It did become an iconic part of his persona, and Jobs was certainly obsessed with appearances, however judging by the amount of flack and ridicule he got for always wearing the same thing I think his decision was more based on not sweating the details on a daily basis.

Yup. Both Gates and Jobs are awesome, in their own ways. Computing wouldn't be here without them.
