It would be awesome if Tim would take this opp to come out and be a hero to gay youth. =)

The kid looks very cool.
My heart literally skipped a beat when I read this and got a big lump in my throat. For those of you hoping 'it's not his health'.. what the hell do you people think? What other possible other reason could he have? The guy lives and breathes his company, and he would stay CEO until the last possible second until he couldn't. He's not leaving cause he's bored, unfit, want to retire or take a vacation. Reason and logic would dictate he's in bad shape and that his survival prognosis for the future is dim. No way in hell he would officially leave the helm if this was not the case. He's NOT well, clearly.
This is fucking massive. This guy's vision literally upended several industries with his philosophy and his vision. He is most of the reason that Apple excites me, just imagining him at the helm. Can't believe we've seen the last of his keynotes.. none else at Apple comes even CLOSE to his presentation style, and the awe, suspense, and excitement his keynotes generates. I'll probably skip them all from now on. Poor guy..this shit always happens to people with the most to contribute. His legacy won't be touched by anyone for a long time to come.

Look on the bright side...you can probably kick his ass. And I hear he smells funny and talks awkwardly to girls. What a loser.mooooose said:That Apple head kid seems awesome and what he's doing (despite being the same age as me) leaves me filled with envy. CS at Princeton and a bunch of internships with decent websites and I don't do jack shit.

I'm not a fan of the products Apple produces, but Steve Jobs is a fascinating guy... I just hope he doesn't go all reclusive in his retirement and takes this opportunity to drop some knowledge bombs before his time is up.
Oh my god. The part where he took the money from their wallets with his reality distortion field and force. Jesus...genius.claviertekky said:Asian news agency strikes again with its silly animations:

Everyone seems to really be talking about it. Then in a month or so everyone is going to be talking about the iP5. He's rather clever.
Replacing Flash is like trying to replace Combustion engines in cars. They are inefficient but robust and everything runs on them. Flash is so much more robust than anything hmtl 5 has and its not still target. Adobe is still improving its efficiency and its content creation tools. Its going to be years if ever.Paradoxal_Utopia said:No, how about we just let it fucking die. Shouldn't take more than another 6 months to a year. Not supporting flash was probably one of the best decisions SJ has made in an ocean of good decisions, if you look at the big picture. It has forced website to drop flash and adopt newer and more universal standards at the risk of losing tens of millions of page views from iOS devices. Only Apple has enough clout and influence to make something like this happen, and it is absolutely a good thing and absolutely had to be done for the betterment of the industry, regardless of the slight inconvenience that it created. Amazing how people think it's a good thing to require a plugin, and how they're cool with flash being so fucking horribly inefficient. Apple did consumers a massive favour and forced the industry to move forward- which they have.
It was a long and trying period, but Apple has finally recovered thanks to the leadership of Tim Cook.Eggo said:What do you think the short term reaction will be for the stock price? Down 10%? I think people are still reeling from the news. It'll probably get a nice boost with the iPhone 5 announcement, but I don't think it will recover to what it was yesterday before Steve's announcement.

I still disagree.Mael said:You can't have it both way either, Apple spent an ungodly amount of time to push SJ as the face of the company, that means for good or ill he's the face of the freaking company.
If he turns ugly then the company's face turns ugly.
That's how it is, next time don't push some guy with a crippling disease as the face of your company.
...
And they had it coming anyway since they marketed their company as SJ's playground, meaning that without SJ we'd have had no ipod, no ipad, no new macs.
So they see that if he steps down, Apple will no longer be so attractive.
They had it coming really.
Technosteve said:your analogy, do you not know how cars work? Flash is like power heated seats, it's nice to have but not necessary for it to drive. Your analogy would mean with out flash the internet would not work.
I love jquery to death, but he's right in saying Flash being robust for certain things. Making something as simple as a video player that relies solely on javascript/html5 is such a hassle in terms of making it (robustly) work in everything, compared to making it just in flash. Especially since for certain browsers you simply have to fallback to flash anyway. Making something more complex, like some kind of interactive presentation that combines videos, graphics, vectors, 3D, etc, is incredibly easier in flash, and when you have tight deadlines looming over, that kind of stuff matters a lot.Bomber Bob said:
