Street Fighter V Beta Thread: Welcome, future '16ers! (Currently Inactive!)

It's to test the online infrastructure.

"I thought the reason for the beta was to test server loads, not test server loads".

Shouldn't it be testing online infrastructure during actual gameplay and not during load up? It'd be fine if this wasn't a timed thing but it is. I'm honestly not mad because I expected this 100%.

WHO'S BETA IS THIS?

Cant remember the last beta that didn't even start up.

A ton of MMOs back in the olden days didn't. If you weren't Everquest or WoW sized, betas sometimes would just straight up not let people log in.

And those were games dependent on servers. This is just part of the game.

That's...not how this works.

See, what Capcom is doing is trying to push their servers to see how much load they can handle/stress. That's first and foremost - if too many people are trying to play, how in the hell are they going to load up the game and play after?

FYI, there are two more betas after this, one with a supposed offline feature. This one was specifically stated to test server load. Expecting anything else is silly.

You should all read ComboFiends blog post. He says the reasons for this beta is to test the online infrastructure. Also doesn't sound like the issue is load, but might be something else.

This is why you dont make a beta a pre order bonus, people dont get it through their thick heads that a beta is to test a game, its not an actual demo

How many people got online to play though? Or is it waiting to see how many people are going to play? And idk why so many people are streaming if this was the purpose

There aren't that many people playing the game on streams. It's just them looking at the screen.

MMO's have a little higher server load than pvp games...

At the same time, they are built for this far more than a game with an additional online section.

Does the beta working this way imply that you'll need an online connection to play Street Fighter V because of fight money and the game being considered a service?

Capcom has had plenty of experience with maintaining an online infrastructure... So it looks bad on them that no one can play right now.

It only looks bad to people who are literally waiting in the bushes to pounce on every misstep that Capcom has.

No rational person who understands the purpose of this beta test will think this looks bad.

In fact, rational people should be delighted, because this means the finished product will be that much better. This is one less post-release patch that we'll have to wait for next year.

MKX players WISH their online beta test had difficulties like this.

Thank goodness for Amazon's loophole. They probably should have held this beta publicly and another beta for pre-orders down the road.

Grrr! I am so angry that this incomplete game is having a public beta to test server load, and I cant connect to the server!

Well, considering no one can get in to test the online structure...they haven't even gotten THAT far. =P

So their online infrastructure currently does not work AT ALL. I hope they fix this soon so we can actually start testing net code/server load/etc by actually participating in this beta. ;)

This is what I'm worried about, but as a fighting game that doesn't make sense to me. Since the beginning they've revolved around the LOCAL action, and not requiring online.

Of course, I think they already confirmed it won't be always online, so the worry is probably all for naught.

No, actually this is the first issue they have to address right now. It's a success. Kinda.
I'm sorry for all guys in the americas who had to pre-order to get into the beta. I didn't have to, maybe that's why I'm less salty.
