well, the final game isn't going to prevent you from playing it because it's not going to attempt to connect to a login server when you start the game (or if it fails it won't prevent you from playing it)
also it'll probably die anyway at launch

Yeah, you're more than likely correct. Though I don't remember Vanilla Street Fighter IV having any issues online when it released.
I'll say this for the few moments I did play, hits are definately way more "beefy". When I get back home, I hope it'll still at least be on the title screen when I return later today. Could be because of the added animation of when your hits actually connect vs how it didn't care whether you missed or hit in earlier games.

Hopefully we'll get more updates throughout the day when Capcom on the West coast is in the office. On the other hand, Capcom Japan will be asleep.
Seems like most people online right now are either in Japan or Europe though, so maybe we'll have more luck in NA soon. Not sure where servers are located or who manages them.

The way they've worded that announcement, I don't think it's going to be a weekend fix. Hope I'm wrong though.
EDIT: Capcom_UK above me makes it sound more promising, but still multi-day.
