Street Fighter V Beta Thread: Welcome, future '16ers! (Currently Inactive!)

It really dont matter anymore everyone have their own views on it. I for one thought it was gonna work. So if this happens when ever the beta is back on are yall gonna say the samething.. its a beta? Whats the point then.
The point is to fix these problems before the launch of the game. The beta isn't for you, it's for them.

I'm suprised it's taking this long but better now than at launch. I'm wondering if it was always gonna crash and burn or if load really is the issue right now. Hmmm.

This isn't so bad as long as the reason for things not working was an actual bug/design error in their system and not just "welp not enough servers" so they actually got something useful out of this.

So this game uses rollback similar to GGPO to mask latency right? Did anyone here get into any matches with some jerky rollback corrections?

Also, does this beta include any sort of options like changing the amount of frames that will be delayed, etc? Or no options at all other than remapping buttons? Hopefully the final game will let us pick the amount of input delay to accommodate when playing people with different amounts of latency.

Anyone pay for this beta? I'd be pissed..

What's there to be pissed off about? We're going to get to play it. There's also going to be two other beta tests. This stuff happens. I'd feel differently if this were the retail version, but it's not...it's a beta test.

Alright, just to get the discussion going and move away from all the negativity, I was wondering what's the best fightstick to get for the PS4?

I've been playing fighting games since SFII (well, SFI, but that wasn't that good), and I used to play competitively in arcades, tournaments and such. I lost interest in the franchise and the genre after X-Men vs. Street Fighter and haven't been back much since.

I wanted to jump in and bathe in fighting game juices once more, and while I play OK with a pad, I think I need to play with a stick to be really good, right? Or are people doing pretty well with pads (regular controllers) and not actual fightpads)?

Whatcha think, GAF?

EDIT: And yeah, still waiting for the beta client to actually work. But I'm itching to see if I can pull of new combos or be worried at how daunting the new V-System is. I gather, I'll get eaten alive by GAF fight pros online, though.

We paid for the game, not the beta. Pre-orders are cancellable at no cost to the customer.

Edit: If this is referring to people that paid for codes, that's on them.

Yup. And even if someone did pay for a code (lol WHY)...the beta is going to be back up and playable soon. Have some patience, people.

At the same time in the hypothetical scenario it keeps happening and nobody is able to play an online match we won't know if the netcode is complete garbage or not

If you paid for the game, you paid for something you won't receive for another 7 months.

But anyway my point was more about how when betas are offered as preorder incentives, people expect them to be more like demos. This is a reminder that they sometimes aren't.

I'm not even trying to argue about whether people should be all mad or not. (They probably shouldn't.)

The point is to do network testing.

It's not a gameplay beta to test balance or anything like that.

You only have 2 choices if you are buying without tinkering.
$150 Hori Rap4
$200 MadCatz TE2

The MadCatz has all Sanwa parts which was the de facto standard at Japanese SF arcades while the Hori is all in house stick+buttons. Hori Stick (Hayabusa) seems less tense/more sensitive than a Sanwa, but some don't like the Hori buttons (Kuros) as they seem stiff

I found the problem.
Are saying I shouldnt of expected it to work?

The beta was made for me too.

Yall probably think im just going off but I legit thought it was gonna work. I know its beta but dang. There is a Black ops 3 beta too in a couple weeks. Everyone wanting to play that should expect this too? I understand why yall defending it but trying to make it look like anyone who expected to play be foolish is foolish itself. I guess everyone who had a stream up yesterday is foolish.

People who preordered on psn would be more irked i think, as you had to pay for the whole game and its listed as a preorder bonus.

That said, i hope they iron it out soon. I wonder if it was server overload or some tech not working or bugs, or somebody kicked a wire.

Beta doing it's job as a beta.

Any anger about this is ridiculous, this is exactly what you sign up for when you beta test.

I agree. But it shows a lot of enthusiasm for the game.

For the life of me though; I don't know why they wouldn't do a staggered release. We still don't know if the netcode is any good.

People are upset because they were excited to play "buggy SF5" and ended up with a SF5 title-screen simulator.

I'm fully aware what a beta is.

Yes, they are. This was to squash bugs and they clearly found a pretty major one. The beta did its job and we helped by trying to logon. Good work, everyone!

I do think that companies shouldn't be using them as pre-order incentives, but if you're annoyed, then you are foolish as this can always happen with anything. Just be glad they did test it and this didn't happen on the game launch like has happened so may goddamn times now.

you new to betas? I have never seen a beta that runs smooth on day 1. Besides this is not even beta but more alpha. The game is still almost a year out. I have played a lot of betas over the years, swtor, gw2, eso, bf3, etc. And none worked on day 1. This is not a demo. Its a test to see if the server can handle load.

It's disappointing, but shouldn't be shocking.

Its not that people expect it to be a demo, it's that a majority of people haven't even gotten past the title screen yet. That's acceptable? The fuck is the point of us testing that?

Seeing people complaining about the beta is like seeing a QA tester complaining about not being able to play a game because he run into bugs.
It's ridiculous beyond words.
You signed for it guys. You're not here to play, you're here to help them to test their network architecture.
Of course you can be disappointed, but they dont owe you anything, and it's only the first day, relax.

The beta was suppose to test the net code during gameplay.
So i won't really say it doing much when they can't even get it to work after 16 hours .
Hell much more people will be playing the game at launch than now so stress test wise this might not even help .

The main difference between a Call of Duty beta and a Street Fighter V beta is one franchise has focused all its attention on online play for over a decade now, and the other focused its attention on arcade and local play, with less of a focus on online play. This is uncharted ground, not just for Street Fighter, not just for Capcom, but for fighting games in general. I didn't expect them to have to shut the servers down and reschedule the beta, but I definitely didn't expect smooth sailing.

To make sure people can get past the menu in later releases? The test was always about the netcode/stability.

Whats the point of hyping that up? That's something they should have figured out on their own, or at least informed people of going in. I keep hearing it's about netcode/stability, yet have not been able to test that in any meaningful sort of way by not being able to get past the title screen.

Can people stop pretending like the purposes of this demo also wasn't for players to go hands on with the game?

To be fair, most people here are used to betas being glorified demos of the game. The last major one that PS4 had was the Destiny "Alpha", so I can see where the complaints might come from.

Acceptable? sure, why not? Part of this was testing the network, and apparently something needed improvement, so the end result was useful. I'd say it's only unacceptable if they don't run it for the full number of days promised.

played plenty of betas all worked on day one, at least the first day. Gears 3, gears ultimate edition, destiny, splatoon(testfire) which is funny people complained that game shouldve work since it was a BETA but apparently it was a stress test. lol?

Did we really log on? Didnt capcom say it simply was not loading up or something?

I've never been unable to play a beta this long. People didn't preorder the game so they can stare at a title screen for 5 days. They did it so they could actually play the game. The purpose of this beta is to not only stress test the netcode, but give people an early access to the game and get more preorders. I'm not sure where people get off on defending this fuckery by saying, "it's a beta". Like that would make this situation better for anyone who was cheated out of their time or had their experience ruined by this.
