Street Fighter V Beta Thread: Welcome, future '16ers! (Currently Inactive!)

Wow this beta is not playing around! Since you guys continue to bump this thread I finally decided to jump on the Beta and here's how my first 4 minutes went:

-Pressed a Button
-Picked Birdie for the 1st time
-Begins in training Room
-OK time to start prac-ANOTHER FIGHT IS COMING YOUR WAY!
-VS a Ryu......Lv.24 Beta Grandmaster
-Gets Rekt
-Loses Both Rounds


Talk about being introduced to SFV sheesh but at least I didn't give him the pleasure of getting any perfects of me.Anyways besides that I had about 30 matches in the span of 70 minutes and lost most of them but I didn't feel any lag whatsoever on my end (90 Mbps Down and 15 Mbps Up Connection) but aside from the fact that matches just keep happening one after another and barely gave me any ME time to train on my own I enjoyed the time I had with it.
 
I don't know why for the life of me, but V-skill's keep activating even though I'm not pressing both buttons to trigger it. It's even happened when I'm only pressing the input for shoryuken or hadoken, which is just a single punch + direction. It's cost me at least 3 games because it happens right in the middle of a super close match, giving the oppopent just enough room to swing the battle in their favor.

It's starting to annoy the piss out of me.

Sounds like a controller issue.
 
I think Ryu himself actually shits on any fireball lol. Because of his V-Skill, building that V-trigger is really important and you aren't really at risk for attempting to parry the fireball. And once he is in Denjin mode, his fireballs are a pretty huge threat, with how fast they are and delaying them can be pretty tricky.

Chun can slide under fireballs but it gets tricky if he is in denjin mode and she really doesn't get too much off landing a cr.mp and it's pretty bad if it gets blocked deep. Though if Chun is within footsie range, you can outpoke Ryu. I think her v-skill is a pretty poor anti-fireball move. You have to do it pretty early because there have been many times I got hit on the ascent trying it.

Chun slide is minus on HIT. It's not meant to be used to make contact with the opponent.

Nope. I think he just has too many moves for me to keep track of so I never know what to do.

Doesn't help that he doesn't seem to have an effective anti air, invincible specials, or an invincible super. Seems like I get hit out of everything.
 
i been playing solid matches sometimes matches start laggin second round for me after winning dont know what up with that, playing against people using wifi is no fun teleports for everyone >.> im liking the gameplay still dont know how to punish bison and charlie v triggers yet though.
 
I'll probably lvl 20 by the time I log off tonight, I've been playing so much.

I stopped at level 19 and two-thirds about 2 hours ago because I had to go pick up my wife from work. Wanted to get to level 20 but decided to call it a night from that point forward.

I find that to be bullshit when Nash's CA takes forever and you can be jabbed out of it.

That's because it lacks invincibility frames, I'm talking about start up frames. I don't think Nash's CA has any invincible frames. It looks like it's meant to counter fireballs and to punish people whiffing unsafe moves from far away. Ryu's CA on the other hand probably has some invincibility like his Super does in SF4. Just enough to beat normals during their active frames and fast enough that you can't jump it.

The only thing you can do really is YOLO EX scythe and vtrigger out of it if it whiffs because god help you if you try to do anything else on wakeup

Doing that always makes me realize I play to haphazardly compared to the other guy. Feels bad.
Its always amusing to see inputs raining down the opponent's side of the screen when they get knocked down

Hit 20 about a half hour ago. Not sure that I like the ranking system though.

He has great offensive options but no braindead defensive options. You have to pick your moves wisely.

And use the V reversal.

Edit: and on that note I have no idea what Bison's defensive options are.
 
Love playing against ryu as nash. Everytime they pop v-skill guarantees an auto CA for me lol. These guys just throw fireballs recklessly even though I have full meter stocked. Love it. Just played a level 19 grandmaster ryu who did the same thing haha. No ryu seems to know that nash CA is fullscreen punish on fireballs lol.
 
are you sure about that at max distance for it to connect?

I dunno, haha. I guess ToolAssisted's frame data only tells us about point blank. Would it be even really possible to do it on reaction against close range fireballs? Would it make more sense to use one her faster less risky pokes to hit him out of startup if you think he'll fireball (like st.MK or something)?

I am playing nash super turtle style similar to guile and so far its not bad. I have about 65%-70% win ratio. But Its tough though under pessure. You can't panic(even though i do sometimes) and alpha counter from time to time. I play lot of footsie with him. I will argue his normals are best buttons for him. C.mp and c.mk is godlike. too bad c.mp will be terrible after the new build comes out.

She is so damn good right now, shuts down zoning for free. Got v-trigger? No more fireballs. Got full bar? You damn well better not throw any hadoukens. Feeling nervous? Well you better not even jump because that's a blow up too.

I doubt it's gonna last lol

Yeah Cammy has a lit of punishing answers for everything it feels like. And that Cr.mp...uuuugh it's disgusting.
 
I wasn't able to play today but had a blast yesterday playing. I made it to lvl 20 then stopped. I ran into at least 1 very good player per character so I learned alot vs ryu. If cody isn't in the starting lineup I'll just main ryu til then.
 
Cammy is cool, seems like she intimidates people facing her a bit. Birdie isn't clicking as well as I would have imagined.
 
I decided to play one charater exclussively per day

today I tried Bison.

I still have trouble getting to learn new shit because I get tossed out of training mode into a only versus not knowing what my V-Trigger does

i find Bison now insanely sluggish but stronger in damage output

the only chain combo that work for me consistantly is stM, cr MP

it peeves me allot that Bison barely has any normal cancelables. but other quicker characters are more verstile about normal cancels into special

Bison has what he needs. He just might not be for you. I think he is solid and well-balanced. Most people think he is S tier, but I think he's just a noob killer.

I am uploading 5 matches (out of ~40 saved) to my YouTube channel right now. Check back in the morning if you want to see my Bison play. I don't claim to be the best, but I think I understand the basics of the character, at least.
 
With all the talk about "blonde fighter V" I decided to make up this handy chart. I even broke the characters up into racial categories (although maybe I shouldn't have, I hope I don't end up offending anyone or sparking controversy...)

If I made any mistakes or missed anyone, let me know. Looking at it, it's crazy that a full half of the white characters are blonde even though in real life I'm quite certain it's got to be a lot less than that.

the term Hispanic was coined by Richard Nixon to lump anything South of the Border that is Spanish speaking into one big group regardless of ethnicity or race.
 
Vega should be grouped with the whites, yeah. And I think Gill is technically white, too.

Speaking of Bison, he only has one cancellable normal that I know of (MP), but you can enter into MP from dfHP and stHK, the damage is real with this guy. I hope for the official beta they let us try the new build, I want to try qcb Inferno stuff.

I played the shit out of him for the first time yesterday and I feel he's pretty strong...but people also have no idea what they're doing. If you have questions I may be able to help.

....though the beta is just about over, at least until Friday.

Nah, Bison has like 4 normals you can cancel.

Cr.MP, cr.LP, st.LK, st.HP.

It's gonna be nice to have a new inferno motion. It was a bitch trying to combo into that, and now it will be simple.

Yeah, he also has st HK into cr mp. You can also change it up and go SF4 mode and do cr lp, cr lp, st lk, scissors

Cr mp and cr hp are really good anti airs, you just have to judge if the opponent is right on top of you (cr mp) or sort of a distance away (cr hp). You'll have to block if you miss an anti air, but ex flash kick is a really good punish. His super goes through projectiles if that helps.
 
Getting the hang of Chun, but I really need to learn to stop mashing sweep like it's SF4 before people figure out how unsafe that shit is in this game.

I didn't bother with crLP and crLK, I hate that easy confirm shit and as a Vega user in SFIV I never used them lol (1-frame link nightmare)

It's strange they haven't nerfed his damage output or something yet (a full combo in V-Trigger with a couple of bars can do more than 50% damage). I hope they don't touch the frames on his normals, they are very, very good currently and it's fun to counter-poke a button friendly Ryu or Nash.
 
Had a ton of fun with Birdie. Once I realized you could string two standing jabs into jab rush, I was golden. Nice little hit confirm that can also punish slightly punishable moves like legs, slashes, drills, etc. You don't know how many times I ended up winning because of jab -> jab xx Rush xx Critical Art.

I love how his overhead is two hits. I'm still iffy on when to meaty people, but it doesn't matter with that move!

Does this game feel like 3rd Strike? I didn't think so, but when trying out Chun, I hit confirmed d.mk -> Super out of instinct, and it worked. Later after 1am, I started to try to push forward to parry in my sleep-deprived state so it must be!
