You have to take an aggregate of opinions from somewhere. I take any metric of anime shows/movies/OAVs on any website with a gigantic grain of salt in general though. The only website I use as a starting point anymore is AniDB and even then I tend to be skeptical (I'm pretty sure the place is a den of 14 year old girls and pedophiles). I've lost count of the number of times I've checked out high rated shows there to be bitterly disappointed.

That being said, I would have never checked out shows like The Irresponsible Captain Tylor if it wasn't for that site.
