So which year was the worst year for anime in GAF's opinion?

The year that had the first little moe girls doing moe things anime which would then start the craze.

EDIT: I fixed whatever the fuck I was trying to say.

I honestly don't remember anything about Gungrave other than someone named Brendon is in it. Although I saw it in middle school and have an extremely horrible memory, but I'm sure they showed it on TechTV.

Brandon Heat

moe hasnt been around as a term but the style has been around forever.
Well whenever the first K-ON! like show started that caused the craze of other such like shows to be made. Whatever year that was it was the worst, it was the beginning of the end.

I don't usually watch Bleach movies, or many movies adapted from a serialized manga at all. But the premise of Kurosaki and gang going to fight in HELL intrigued me. It was surprisingly good, a lot of well animated fights, although I'm actually partial to say that the best animated fight in the entire movie was the flashback to his fully Hollowfied form at the very beginning. Some of the fights felt a little too short.

Nevertheless, it was surprisingly good, I loved the darker premise and characters. One really got the sense they would do anything to get out of hell, and their infinite cycle of torture.

I don't recall it straying at all, despite the introduction of the sci-fi elements.
That, also Brandon's life before the Mob was done in a boring way.

But I am with I9 and have not seen the series for a long time

Wiki reckons that moe as a term came about in the 90s - but then it also currently has "faggotry" as a synonym for it, so...

Personally speaking I think I became aware of it as a concept with Azumanga Daioh in 2002, but then I wasn't really into anime before about 1999 so I couldn't say for certain (I had thought that the term had first been applied to Sakura Kinomoto which would date it to around 98 or so? But Wiki tells me that's not the case).

I used to just call it "cute girls doing cute things" (see: Bottle Fairy). Ah, back in the day...

Wow, you all didn't like Gungrave?

I enjoyed Gungrave but I'd be lying if I said my enjoyment didn't take a tumble during the latter half (and/or during the first episode). Still liked it throughout but a part of me didn't make the jump when the shit hit the fan.

I'm just catching up on Penguindrum now, and holy hell, this is fantastic. I'm stunned at how assured it feels, despite taking so many risks and being drawn together from such disparate elements.

Avoiding the OT for spoiler purposes. Not quite up to date yet. But yeah, this is as good as Ikuhara's grand return should be.

I think if I had known how it would turn out, I probably would have rather watched something better than spending time on this, but I've wasted my time on much worse series than this, so no big.
Like, what? I mean, obviously there's lots of other shows out there but it's a pretty great show and not that much of a time commitment compared to, say, a shounen work.

Gangster of the sea.

Hmm, I think I need that as a tag.

I thought it was pretty bad when I first saw it. With parts that got worse then that.

I would say, the moe genre is a new thing with 24 episodes of nothing.
I dunno, Marco is 51 episodes of nothing!

Brain Powerd, obviously.

I just want another timeless classic anime with fun characters, a thrilling story, great direction and production value, and masterpiece Kanno score. Is that too much to ask?
We already have a few of them! Just no Kanno score.

I found Arjuna way too preachy. Nausicaa (and other miyazaki stuff) does the save the planet theme much better.
Shocking.

The surrealism of watching penguins talking to each other is quite impressive.
I can't wait for this whole fad to die down and people will pick some classy avatars instead.

Like Asuka.

That's over ten hours that could be spent watching Tokyo Underground.

Yeah Im gonna watch a couple episodes. Although that speed reading will get tiresome like it was in Excel Saga. I heard that Bakemonagatari is like that sometimes too.
You can slow down time, y'know.

It's never all essential anyway.
