The shirts will be sold at cost, so it'll probably be more expensive with a back pattern. EvilLore's not planning to gouge you like some other sites would, it's just a kind of GAF pride thing.

I read in that other thread that shirts would be $17 and shipping to me would be $12 so I thought the 17 was fixed. I don't mind really. The front pattern is cute enough.

How do you know this? I thought the preview was for episode 18.

While it's tempting to throw a bunch of animeGAF memes onto a shirt, even if it is representative of AnimeGAF it isn't necessarily something anyone would want to wear.

Penguins have a very recognizable outline, even if they are abstracted down to blobs. To anyone who doesn't watch anime, it would just be a shirt with some Web 2.0 penguins on it. To someone who does watch anime, it would be a MPD t-shirt. And to someone on GAF, it would be something like a uniform or a badge of honor. Multiple layers of meaning, I think, are part of what makes a good design.

Still I'm open to new ideas. I can always make another design. If only we had an AnimuGAF-tan, PonyGAF has their own mascot, how come we don't?

I considered QB for the design actually, but I realized anything with QB's face on it will invariably be seen as a Madoka Magica t-shirt. Also, copyright issues. EvilLore's playing safe with these shirt designs and the penguins might already be skirting the edge.

Is it a common thing for a lot of shows to publish like a month's worth of upcoming episode summaries in magazines? I think I remember for Star Driver there were a bunch of details on episode 12 or something while episode 8 had just aired.

I think so. This was published in NewType so it wasn't some kind of leak or anything.

Or else I'd do an Ikuhara stained glass rose with NeoGAF colors that covers the shoulder, extending to the back side. Now that would be a real shirt, you can wear it and anyone who sees it will go "damn that's a nice shirt" and never get a hint of its true meaning.

IMO it's still hard to tell the middle penguin is supposed to be wearing a frilly maid headband or whatever they're called, probably because you're limited to one color. Maybe add ribbons or something.
Otherwise it looks pretty cool.

I don't want to make any of the designs too complex or else I'll feel bad for the other penguins and start adding top hats and drills and whatnot. Down that road lies madness and possibly Ikuhara.

People asked for feet so I'm playing around with vaguely foot-like blobs. Left is just something I whipped up in a hurry, middle is the actual tracing from the show, right is the tracing but reduced slightly to maintain balance since I didn't include the arms.

At first I kept getting the impression it's three faces with really long hair, but the feet help bring the penguin idea back. But they still have long hair.
For the meido headdress, maybe you can just add a thin ribbon of black to help differentiate what's supposed to be the headdress from the penguin head? Make it a clearer distinct element. Horrible MSPaint example:
