But X360 has 2004 hardware in it.... We are talking about 8(!) years!!
8 years is an eternity in tech. Look at Xbox 1 to 360. 4 year gap. X360 games look unbelievable compared to Xbox 1. Compare Gta San Andreas with GTA 5. 4 year hardware gap.
Compare GTA 5 with Watch Dogs on Xbox One... 8 year hardware gap. Lol.

To be fair.

You are compairing games from the end of the lifecycle to First(or Second)-Generation games on the new console. They will look MUCH better in 3-4 years.

I would had preferred 720p 60fps.

Is 720p bad now? I ask because a lot of titles last gen didn't bother to reach it but not everyone just goes over it in weird ass aspect ratios.

well...whatever they have to do to make it like they want it to look, i suppose.

I would had preferred 720p 60fps.

they don't do 60fps games anymore. by choice.

I think this is the longest thread we've had for Sunset.

I love you, Gaf

Edit: just checked, nope.

Haha, so sad.

Edit: Well that's good. I would say to wait until the day is over though.

You should be a comedian.

(asking you guys)

I don't get on gaf and post much on the weekend. Spend my time with the wife and kids.

Are the drive-by posts, hyperbole, and crap-fest worse on the weekend?

I'd be ok with this too. I suppose they had a choice between the two. I'll enjoy whatever they find meets their expectations.

The scale of this game is pretty crazy.

Tons of fast movement, open world, dozens of enemies, huge explosions, etc. Looks great. As long as they keep the frame rate locked it'll be fine.

Someone compared this to Destiny, and I've played Destiny. SO seems much more intensive.

The game looks incredible, great art direction, and like a good time.

Who care about the resolution and framerate (if it's locked) in that case.

You had people that were impressed/blown away in a thread that had a PS4 vs PS3 The Last of Us comparison......that was running in 720p....let alone 900p.

What matters the most is if it's fresh and fun. Everything else is a bonus.

Is this a joke post?

The next gen consoles shot for low-end CPUs and less than current GPUs in order to keep heat and cost down. No one wanted to lose money out of the gate.

To keep the costs down. Looooooooool. Should I laugh?
So thats the reason a Xbox One did cost 499 before 9th june.., lol.

Early 360 games didn't look hugely better than Xbox games, that why we had the whole Xbox 1.5 crap, and how can you compare a late 360 game to an early Xbox game?.

Comparing GTA5 with PS4 WatchDogs is just the same. WatchDogs will look crap 5 years from now when we are close to the end of this gen. Compare a X1 launch game like Ryse to any similar 360 game and the difference is HUGE.

Not always the case..
Dreamcast had Soul Calibur as a start title...
Gamecube Rogue Leader...
But I'm sure in 3 years we'll see some prettier stuff...

Compare GTA5 x1 vs GTA x360. It is better to compare apples with apples

We were moving from non-HD to HD with the Xbox/PS2 to the 360/PS3 so that was a pretty big visual transition.

Also, you are comparing launch games which are never a good indication of how a console will be in terms of visuals. And in terms of Watch_Dogs, the game would have probably looked much better on both new consoles if it wasn't cross gen.

...and if it had even better specs the system would have probably been $600+ alongside kinect. Don't really get what you are arguing about.

Compare PGR 3 on Xbox 360 (start title) with Pgr 2 (end title)...

Pgr 3 is MILES ahead of Pgr 2 in EVERY graphically way.

The "who cares/it doesn't matter" attitude is certainly frowned upon in tech threads.

1. Yes

2. Before this you couldn't downplay the game, but now people "think" they have a reason to. They smell blood in the water now.

yeah, i'm fine with this

the game looks pretty sure, but i never got into these dead rising/dead island kill as many dudes as you can type open world games.

I'm really ok with this. 8 player co-op in an open world, with tons of enemies. If they keep the frame rate locked and steady, then it's already an improvement over Dead Rising at launch. There is a lot of people that question the developers and their choices. I have faith they will find the right balance.

If you don't know what drove the cost of the system up...and can't put 2 and 2 together to see what was removed, in order to not cost them more with a $399 system, then..well...I'm not going to take the time to explain it.

They didn't make some smart decisions, but the reason for the choices made and the cost are there.

Sony made a similar choice, but a better one. They focused on the GPU rather than an expensive camera/microphone/processor accessory. These two companies (heck even Nintendo went cheap..so three) went for less powerful parts to try and hit that $400-$500 range.

Really? This is the type of game that would benefit the most from the great clarity of native 1080p and the fluidity of 60fps. I guess that is only the ideal that Xbone can't reach.

Pretty much this. There was never any indication this game would be above 30fps to my knowledge and no one at the convention who played seem to be bitching about any of it so why is it an issue now? The look of the actual game hasn't changed a bit. So where's the issue?

i9aoaznUI2YBm.gif

yeah, i'm fine with this

Apparently this all of a sudden looks "bad" now.

That's a bummer, but I played it and really liked how it looked. I don't think the numbers are quite as important as what your eyes tell you.

Thats such a weird concept these days unfortunately.

yup, it drives me nuts that people care more about fps and resolution. its not like the game looks bad....I think it was killzone on ps4? that they didnt release the actual resolution until months after the game was out and it wasnt until they told people did people complain. Love it

so youre saying gameplay trumps numbers? no way

The irony..

Ah, well, how about this.

I'd always rather have 1080p/60 in every single game.

I'm fine with 900p/30 in any game ever if it's a good game.

No matter the system or the game...I'm not going to bash it based on the res or Framerate. I don't mind a discussion on resolution or framerate, if it's a technical one.

Those that use it to LOL, drive-by, and make "attacking" comments should get lost.

Higher res and fps is always better. I'll never argue against that if it's possible in both instances on any hardware.

What were the prices for X360 and PS3?

299(350) dollar and 499 dollar?

I think if starting titles can't hit 1080p with min 30 fps something is wrong...
At the end of console life cycles devs are lowering the resolution... But if we get 792p and 900p now are we getting 720p and 600p at the end of the cycle?? Lol..

The letdowns will be more and more when time passes by, the PS4 will show stronger games and the Xbone is constantly struggling to even maintain a stable framerate.

Microsoft's head on choice for Kinect while not competing in the graphical departement is their dumbest choice as of yet.

Yet with all the heaps of explosions, chaos and other shit going on with 8 players on screen at once, SO seemed to run just fine...

Bottom line is, you don't get to decide what matters to people and what doesn't.

Did someone mention PGR????

Compare PGR 3 on Xbox 360 (start title) with Pgr 2 (end title)...

Pgr 3 is MILES ahead of Pgr 2 in EVERY graphically way.

I'm going to have disagree that it was miles better. It looked better due to the bump to HD, but it wasn't miles better. PGR2 was a great looking game and managed to hold its own against PGR3 pretty well.

Don't bring Miles into this thread
lol

Hehe. I can sense whenever someone is talking about PGR.

Apparently this all of a sudden looks "bad" now.

I'm pretty sure no-one has said it looks bad and if they did, well, there's certainly no accounting for taste.

I think there's the issue of it looking like a Splatoon map at the end of a match, personally. That, and they brought back the character design from FUSE before EA ruined it.

i9aoaznUI2YBm.gif

yeah, i'm fine with this

This looked great. But other gameplay foootage at E3 kind of looked...rough to me. FPS didn't look that nice in certain areas (was kind of getting a Dead Rising 3 vibe). Although maybe not as bad.

Which isn't awful, because Dead Rising 3 was awesome. But still, since this is an exclusive, I guess I figured it would be..more? At least 1080p? *shrugs*

If 1080p is a must because its the standard then 60fps should also be a must because our televisions have been 60Hz for ages now.

Thing is 30hz looks the same on a 30" display or a 110" projector. And for most games its not imparitive to have inputs under 30hz. Not so with resolution, where kids gaming on tiny TVs couldn't give two craps while the rest of us with home theater setups have to deal with vasaline smears all over the image.

A good example is Destiny. The art style and geometry might not be as complex as something like say BF, but it looks a hell of a lot better on my setup because of the resolution. Bring able to pick out enemies a quarter mile away and see small details is important to both visuals and gameplay.

"Isn't true at all"? Excuse me but are you me? I was talking about me and I personally can't tell much of a difference between 900p and 1080p.

Good for you. If the point was that 'you' can't tell the difference then why are you even making the statement then? Clearly you wanted to suggest the difference could not be seen my most gamers. But if you want to be disingenuous carry on.

I was hoping for 1080p but i'll take 900p. No point complaining about the Xbox One's lack of power, its not something they can fix anyway. I'm fairly certain it would be a lot better had it been designed under the current Phil Spencer regime. I'll use my PS4 for multiplats.

The game still looks like a lot of fun to play and that's what matters most. Now that KI season 2 and Halo 5 aren't out this year, I need something to play on my Xbox One and his fits the bill very nicely.
