Also, I just want to add, it's amazing how after Galaxy, many of us were like, "Where could Mario possibly go next?" And then Odyssey blew our minds with exotic new locations we never knew we wanted but that look SO GOOD!

Wait a sec. Does the map just list all the enemies in each kingdom ?
The way I see it the "hub" will be the Odyssey. Likely you go to the globe on the ship and choose your destination from there.
Locations like New Donk City, Tostarena, and Steam Gardens act as Mario 64-style worlds where you can find moons by exploring and completing adventure-style objectives. Within each of these locations are doors that warp you to sub-areas that act as more focused mini levels. I imagine each Kingdom will only have 1 of these big open worlds.
The part in the trailer where Mario posses a fish... do we know what world that is?
People are thinking that it might be the Cascade Kingdom (The dinosaur level).
Mario Maker with an actual campaign. Levels that occasionally require you to build things on the fly and improvise. The ability to switch artstyles at will, in case you need the nsmb style for wall jumping or the smb3 style for the tanooki suit. Could be pretty great.I do have to wonder, though,
where does 2D Mario goes from here next? I feel like they've exhausted the formula and any attempt would result in series fatigue.
we've gone through level 1-1 like 10 times already. in different games, not sure how can they spice things up.
(off-topic but still)

Highlighting the shapes that can be made out on the map:

It'd be cool if there was some Atlantis Kingdom that rises out of the water.
Speculation says we're going to the moon? There will be a Moon Kingdom?
No, just some. Cheep cheep isn't listed for example, and enemies can be in multiple kingdoms but are only listed in one.
Speaking of enemies, I will be very surprised if New Donk City doesn't have skipsqueaks:
They added an urban version of stingby, which first appeared in 3D Land (not Mario 64, Treehouse). They look like flies and start out as maggots. Mario wiki thinks they are mosquitos but they are wrong.
So an urban rat enemy would be nice, too. Maybe these guys from Paper Mario and NSMB instead:
Let's not forget that while EAD Tokyo doesn't usually make short games, they do not make long games either. Both Super Mario Galaxys are big but not huge, and 3D Land, Captain Toad and 3D World are 5-10 hours games (specially if we don't count comets and recycled levels).
Wait, what the heck? It took me 40 hours or so to beat 3D World! 5-10 hours feels way too short for that game.

It's a pity Koizumi didnt use Sarasaland for the desert area and included Daisy there in some way, some of the stuff there like the lions and moais seem reminescent of SML.
Basically doing something like for Pauline with New Donk city that would have made fans giddy, becuase I love how this game is joining different areas in a world map. Would also love to visit the castle area with this graphics for an ending (even if its the secret levels ending mario type) in mushroom kingdom or something.
Koizumi loves his Rosalina, so if a moon appears as a playable area wouldnt be surprised she was there in some way. That, or he decided having her would be too much and he decided Pauline to have all the stardom for this game.
There is no way 3D World is a 40 hours game, unless you played it four times in order to complete every level with every single character (which is something I can't really count if we are talking about content). Its a game that an average player can perfectly end in 10 hours, and complete in way less than 20 even in a first run (green stars and stamps are not that hidden).
Both Galaxies are way bigger games and I find it hard to believe that they do exceed the 30 hours, comets included.
It's 40+ hours if you do all the worlds, get all star coins, stamps and golden flags.
About 10 if you just rush through the main 'story' without collecting anything or doing the hard worlds.
EDIT
This site is usually has it spot on for completion times. Has it as nearly 40 hours for completionists.

Treehouse says there's a good mix, and quite a few of them. I get the impression the most involved moons are the ones on the critical path, but then there are a variety of moons on the side, ranging from easy to find to more devilishly hidden or difficult to attain. Completing the main story should be simple enough, but going for 100% completion sounds like it's going to keep us busy for awhile.I really don't think I like the way they're handling moons in this game. Handing out a moon every 5 minutes for nothing more than light exploration loses the impact. I fear it will be another korok situation.

lol
Yeah, that bothered me.
C'mon Nintendo Treehouse employee, you can't be caught slippin' on Mario facts in a livestream mostly aimed at enthusiast.
Btw I really love the stingbys, they're one of my favorite modern Super Mario enemies. I'm loving how weird and creepy they are in Odyssey.
My only concern about this game so far is that the hat seems so make things.. easier. I know they only showed early parts of the game, but I really hope we get some difficult stuff later in the game.
I would love so see Super Mario Sunshine secret levels to return, these were just so good!

How on earth has the soundtrack leaked? The New Donk City theme is so perfect. Reminds me of the Pilotwings series for some reason.
How on earth has the soundtrack leaked?
Awesome though.
They played the songs during breaks on Treehouse Live. That's also how we have the full version of the vocal theme, with 3x the lyrics heard in the trailer. How on earth has the soundtrack leaked?

So... are there any traditional levels/missions? Similar to 64 or Galaxy? You collect moons but they're everywhere. So I'm confused, it just seems like the whole world hub is the level.

I'm kinda not liking this....There are different platforming subsection levels within the hubworld that you can go to, they showed a few of the New Donk City ones off in the treehouse.

They played songs from the game in between Treehouse segments during E3. People just figured out where these songs played in the game proper based on the footage released & labeled the songs from there.
Thanks! They played the songs during breaks on Treehouse Live. That's also how we have the full version of the vocal theme, with 3x the lyrics heard in the trailer.
You can also hear the New Donk City theme in GameXplain's direct-feed playthrough.

Seeing how fast some of these moons can be gotten I hope there's more than 120 moons. 20 per world doesn't seem like much.
