Never understood this complaint. You're not required to pay the upgrade fee if you don't want to and you can still play the game to completion. The upgrade fee is to add features. Was Nintendo supposed to put in extra work for free?

Ill gladly pay the fee just for custom button config and miiverse. Restore points is added bonus. I used it last night fighting Bongo Bongo in OoT

The secrets in this game are absurd. Genuinely ridiculous. I remember playing it years after I had first beaten it, thought I knew everything, then I started finding our about shit like Grate Guy's Casino.

Maybe I'll replay it to find out why in the hell people wanted Geno in Smash.
Just kidding, there isn't a reason to begin with.

It's because Geno is the Shadow the Hedgehog of the Mario franchise.
Or the Sephiroth, or something. He's definitely feels more like a JRPG character than the rest.

Whats saving like in this game? Have it on Wii VC but havent played it and unsure if the upgrade is worthwhile. My understanding is that the SNES Wii U VC is better than the SNES Wii VC in general, though.

It works like Paper Mario and the older M&L games. There's a block with an S on it and you hit that to save. Since it's on Wii U VC you can just make a save state whenever you want.

You can only save at save blocks, like most other Mario RPG.

I'm pretty sure an article was posted recently about Sakurai officially stating that he wanted Geno in Smash. Then we ended up with the Mii costume.

I never got around to playing this so I'm glad this is happening! I know that I got this for Wii when it was free on Club Nintendo, but didn't have a pro controller to play it with. Does anyone know if that upgrade discount still applies? I would love to get this for like $1.50 as I currently have the game on the emulated Wii-mode of my Wii-U.

Pretty sure that I've upgraded games that I got off Club Nintendo before.

Yes, you can still upgrade at a discount.

Too bad that the Wii U's virtual console is a travesty. Dulled colors, shitty gamma, and the horrendous input lag make me regret every Wii U VC game I've purchased.

I made a comparison video on Super Mario 64 to highlight the lag.

I'm not sure if only N64 games suffer from this or not but I'm done buying games over again that are inferior versions than the ones I already have on Wii's VC.

I still cant believe Square wont let any of the music from this game get into Smash or other Mario RPGs. Imagine Yoko Shimomura did a remix for M&L from this game.

too bad they released so late that i'm so busy with new games that i don't have time to replay old ones. maybe if they released last year like the rest of the world, i'd have replayed it.

will upgrade solely for club nintendo gold coins since upgrades give you the full amount of coins of the original price even if you pay discount price. this means that a $7.99 game that is discounted will give you coins based in the $7.99 amount and not the $1.50

One of the best games ever made. And then the crap that is Paper Mario kept happening.

Nintendo and S-E need to collab again.

And then we got the Geno outfit, which provided me with hilarity!

Not gonna deny the hilarity the Mii outfit it brought with it, but the outfit was released before Sakurai revealed he wanted the real McCoy in Smash. If anything it left things in a hopeful note for Geno fans.

Thank you both. Since it looks ok I'm sure on Wii VC, I'll probably just stick with that version. Unless the Wii U iteration looks markedly better.

I would totally be on board with buying this again, if I could play it on my n3ds. Wasted opportunities, Nintendo. Wasted opportunities.

I've played through this game almost 10 times in my life, one of my absolute favorites. Have on Wii, will get WiiU version, and would legitimately buy a N3DS if it came out on that.

Hoorah, happy it finally happened. Wish it didn't take that long :/ but hey I'm happy it's here.

I can give this game an absolutely awesome recommendation and I don't like SNES era RPGs. It has so much flavor and comedy, as well as the best characters ever(Booster want Peach waifu lolololol). It has a good difficulty level, but not annoyingly hard like old games, but you have the option to make it really hard or really easy with little grinding(OP characters and armor are available LAZY SHELL PEACH WHAT UP)

Isometric view and the levels are GORGEOUS and nostalgic, hopefully doesn't suffer from the WiiU "darkening" effect or whatever that is. The music is phenomenal, catchy and varied, and the side quests and missions were good enough for me to play every time I do a playthrough.

People might complain about the length but honestly as someone who feels overwhelmed with the amount of games in my backlog and not enough time to play them a shorter, rich RPG like this is great, and I will be happy to play through it again and again.

Side note, People like to compare this game with Paper Mario or mario&Luigi and while it is close to Mario and Luigi I think those games all have merit and that SMRPG isn't the definitive best. In my personal opinion Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is one of the greatest games ever made, and in many ways beats SMRPG out, where SMRPG has a really strong nostalgia factor that PMTTYD doesn't.

If anyone is reading this thread and hasn't played either, I highly recommend you play both.

Maybe this means Final Fantasy IV and VI will follow suit!
