Over in the Cave thread I got some advice about a used Hori EX-SE I bought, but rather than continue to derail that thread I figured I should post here. Basically the stick seems to be worn down, despite the seller claiming it is hardly used. There is a deadzone where the stick has multiple neutral positions...it does not perfectly snap back to the center.
I made a quick video to show what I mean...multiple people have said there should be no deadzone, but I just want to make sure my definition of a deadzone is not erroneous. I don't want to give the seller a hard time if this is how it is supposed to be.

How does this look to you guys? Is it normal to stay offset while in neutral?
I wonder if you could just replace the spring on this.
Looks like those BrawlSticks are $20 a piece at the MadCatz store again.

Wait? This is legit? Or am I already drunk?
Only real men use pink sticks.

I replied to your video. Unfortunately that's a typical LS-32. It doesn't bother some people, but I couldn't stand it. Order an LS-40 if it bothers you. It should only take a few minutes to install in that HRAP. It engages sooner and has almost zero dead zone. Sits a little higher too, making it a bit more comfortable for my larger American hands.
It's normal for the stick to get stuck in off-center positions?
Why did this have to be announced today? I want this so bad, but I don't get paid for another week. Welp, hopefully it doesn't sell out before then.Mad Catz is proud to announce a special partnership with our friends at Capcom & Sanrio for our range of STREET FIGHTER X SANRIO Products!
Our SXS range includes a limited edition (500 made) FightStick
If you mean it actually takes significant force to move it away from off-center, that's not normal. But it's perfectly normal for there to be a small area where there's simply no tension. I never really noticed but every last stick I have (mostly LS-32s but tried a JLF too) has an area like this.
What area are you in? I think you really need someone to try your stick hands on to see if there really is a problem.
I did let a couple people that have sticks try it and they said it is not how theirs are. A small neutral area does seem like an expected thing, but the way it gets stuck like I show in the video is what makes this thing a jerky mess to use. If I engage the stick to the right, rather than snap back to a perfect center as one would expect, it stays offset to the right, and then if I push left there is a hiccup in the movement as it goes past the center, because it starts from that offset position.
I really can't imagine this being normal.
From the video everything looked normal. However, your description does not sound like normal behavior. It almost sounds like someone took the stick apart and didn't put it back together properly.
If you are near Austin I would be happy to check out the stick. Better yet, I have a spare LS-32 lying around that I could give you.
Legit! Madcatz posted on their facebook.
I'm actually getting one. Whoo! The mother just said my KLM/Delta claims check came in (for my lost Wii and other stuff), so I'm cash flush, lol.
Looks Red like the SFXT.
Looks pink to me. Maybe bad lighting.
That's a very nice offer, thanks. I am at the opposite side of the country unfortunately.
Yes it is possible he took it apart... the thing is, even before I touched the joystick, I was surprised how many scuffs this thing had all over it. The ball top, all over the faceplate, and one huge one on the back of the stick...it has clearly seen a ton of use. No point in spending $120 on a heavily used stick when a new one could have been had for not much more. The only reason I paid that much was because he emphasized how it had been hardly touched.
I'm going to buy sticks new only from now on. Snagged a couple Brawlsticks so I'll just drop some Seimitsu parts in there. The ls-40-01 is sounding like my best bet if I want max sensitivity.
alright. i just ordered the sanrio stick. question: i was looking to make some small cosmetic mods. should i just go with 6 pink buttons and a white balltop?
I'd wait till getting the stick in to verify the pink and how it might matriculate with the shades Sanwa/Seimitsu put out. If it is even a bit different it is going to clash like a mofo. White balltop, however, would be ace...like a little kitten head.
What are the best sticks specifically for arcade games such as pac man, metal slug, etc? I plan to buy two for my girlfriend and I.

Ah well. I think you'll like the LS-40. I think it's Seimitsu's most versatile stick. It works great with shmups and other arcade style games and it's not too bad for fighting games either. There is a reason you find them standard in JP Neo Geo cabs.
Soooooo the Madcatz/Hello Kitty sicks are already gone? I was trying to get one, they went fast
What a wonderful novelty stick.
This post made me want to buy two of the PS3 brawl sticks and mod them with the LS-40. I've never modded sticks but I love tinkering, so I think I will do that too.
Crap.Soooooo the Madcatz/Hello Kitty sicks are already gone? I was trying to get one, they went fast
The other thing you should do is make sure you have the lever oriented the right way before you screw it in. IIRC, Seimitsu levers have the 5-pin connector positioned 90 degrees different from the orientation used by the stock equipment in a MadCatz stick. It's easy to figure this out: plug in the connector to the LS-40, then connect the controller to your console. If only one direction works, unplug the connector, turn it over, and then plug it back in. Then just turn the lever in your hand until you find the correct orientation. It's actually very straight forward. Make sure you get the LS-40 01. It has the 5 pin adapter making it a direct swap. I don't think any of LS-40s come with an S bracket, so you will need to order that too.
Crap.
