Super Smash Bros. "Special Broadcast" coming December 2015

Honestly I wouldn't be so sure of that. Where is the sort of person that doesn't watch Nintendo Directs supposed to learn about ballot from? Communities. I really doubt that there are that many people that visited the official site but do not participate in any internet community exposed to these discussions.

There are many people who watch Directs and post in those threads but don't follow Smash Community threads or the long tail of these threads. Those people likely would have no contact with most fan polls. I generally follow the Smash threads here, aside from the matchmaking stuff, and only remember getting links to vote for one fan poll (although I saw commentaries about many others that had already finished).

This is just a personal anecdote, but I know two people in real life who voted in the ballot and aren't a member of any online community. Given the ratio of Smash Bros. forum posters to copies sold of the game, I doubt my situation is unique. I'm not saying every single person who has played Smash Bros. voted in the ballot, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were two or three "casual" votes for every GAF/Reddit/Smashboards/etc. vote.
I have about 11 friends voting for Smash Ballots, and they are not part of any online community. I just knew that casual players (aka silent voters) are going to be stronger than our online community votes.
Fine enough, where did they learn about it from then?

Well, if you didn't tell them that people think some of these requests make less sense than the others, then it's your own fault. /h

Crash would actually be hilarious. If Activision isn't even using him for Skylanders, then they realistically shouldn't have a problem with licensing out. Would never happen though..or would it?

Nope

Snake, Inkling, Phoenix Wright and Crono or it's a disappointment.

No; but serious, Smash is the biggest hype generator ever.

I really want Dante in this game but I take it he's too risque huh? Ebony and Ivory are too "realistic" despite being magic guns.

E&I fire realistic bullets and they're a big part of Dante's image and moveset that removing them would be really jarring. Also no E&I would mean no "Jackpot!" Final Smash.

I'd rather have Jill if we are to get a third Capcom rep.

Almost anything is possible at this point. I would love to have Crash in Smash!

Crash would be perfect considering how he was basicaly the Playstation mascot for a while

With Cloud blowing the lid off, we all know that the next two characters are going to be Batman and Darth Vader.

Sarcasm aside, I dare you to create a compelling reason as to why that wouldn't be awesome. "Integrity" of Smash be damned.

Darth Vader don't have a history of videogame appearances that makes you think "videogame history" and the prequels turned him into a shit character.

Batman has games since the NES and he is awesome

Yeah thought so.

Admittedly while I do like him for Smash most of it is coming for the "Featuring Dante" meme

I'd love to get Crash & Banjo, put them in a fight against Mario, Sonic, & Pac-Man, and get a Console Wars match going. Maybe get Snake back, and throw in Terry Bogard/someone for PC (Shovel Knight? I still have this dumb desire for Papyrus to get in after a 3DS/Wii U port of Undertale, but I'm sure that'll cool down after awhile. Still, he'd be an option), and it'd be perfect!

Even just Crash alone would be amazing, though; I grew up with those games, and I still think it's a shame that the character's going to such a waste.

Why would Papyrus get in Smash instead of
Frisk
? Also, Banjo & Kazooie*

Welp, now I want Dante as well as Knuckles in Smash, if only to turn Smash in the most memetic game of all time.

The ballot was retweeted and shared on a lots of places beyond gaming communities.

Now we have Nintendo, Square, Namco, and Monolith collaborating in one game, and we already have Shulk playable.

Mii Costumes for Fei Fong Wong and KOS-MOS. The circle must be completed.

All I hope for is a new setting that lets me turn stage hazards off and keep the original layouts. Final Destination mode is NOT the answer. No hazards IS.

Neither of them have much of a shot, but they got Cloud; they might've bit the bullet and got Banjo, too. Seeing how Minecraft's coming to the Wii U, there's a Windows costume in the code for Mario Maker, and Jetpac's in the VC port of DK64, Nintendo and Microsoft have been doing stuff behind the scenes. Banjo would've made more sense than Cloud, or than any of the above, so I actually think he has a chance now.

As for Papyrus? I dunno. He's the mascot, while
Frisk
is a 3rd kid in a striped shirt. She doesn't have much going moveset-wise, either. That hasn't been a problem in the past, but it's been for characters like Captain Falcon, Ms. Fit, or Villager, where no one else from their series could do better. Meanwhile, Papyrus could be an interesting Zoner. There's no way Undertale's getting in Smash, but I was trying to think of a PC-original character for that scenario.

Then again, Cloud might've gotten in by "casual" ballot votes that we didn't keep track of, and I can guarantee you that Banjo was a (If not "the") top choice for people that didn't care about who owns what. Plus, Undertale launched in September, and the hype around it was volatile; maybe the tail end of the ballot had a brief surge of Undertale votes? After Cloud, I don't think I can count anyone out. I mean, I'd still rather have Ridley or Wonder Red, but I'd welcome either of these characters with open arms.

This is what needs to happen. The system is sort of in place already in the game, but we cannot access it.

COME ON SAMURAI

I don't want to get into a discussion about who from fucking Undertale of all things deserves to get into Smash but...
(Undertale spoilers)
the name Frisk is a spoiler, and this isn't even an Undertale topic. Seriously, guys.

I will edit the post, but how is the name a spoiler? O.o

I thought Flowey was the mascot :o

Thanks for explaining! And please, again, Banjo and Kazooie. Banjo would never get in Smash without Kazooie being together :P

Sorry for even bringing the game up here; I couldn't think of a better character that'd fit into Smash and be a PC-original character than Papyrus. Maybe Doomguy or Duke Nukem could work, but they'd take all the potential problems with Snake and run with them. As well as all Bayonetta-related concerns in the latter's case.

I guess Flowey's mascot in the game itself, but people tend to associate it with Papyrus. Hell, I'll admit I only thought of Papyrus after seeing one of Jim Sterling's Greenlight videos, and he suggested Papyrus for a hypothetical, legit effort at an Indie Smash clone. And sorry about that with Kazooie, too; I thought she was a given, but saying "Banjo" was just easier. I guess BK works even better, though.

Well first step would be player matches where you can pick the rules and stage that is not tied to friends only.. Really seems like a no brainer, no effort online mode inclusion.. I don't expect no hazards though, which probably wouldn't be hard to implement either because they remove some hazards from the 8 player stages (when in 8 player smash). Oh and make all customs unlockable via a payable dlc... That's like free money Nintendo...

Would be hilarious if Crash becomes a character and HE becomes the FIRST smash character with a special where he uses a KART xD

I imagine even if Sakurai could bring back Snake, wouldn't it be kind of shitty to use your friend's character, after your friend was discharged, from a company that tortured him, and greatly compromised his final game?

I mean, maybe he could or should. But man would it also kind of suck for some parties involved.

Kojima publicly asked for Snake to return before he was fired; I don't think his feelings would change just because he's not at Konami anymore. I'm sure he's still proud of the character and trusts Sakurai to do him justice.

I would agree with you there. Kojima seem to be proud of his work regardless with the situation with Konami. I could be wrong tho. However, I really have zero expectation to see him get in. That's me being pessimist.

Kojima always wanted snake in.. and retweeted a made up snake amiibo a few months back.
