Team Fortress 2 - Bidwell's Big Plan [Microtransactions]

Yeef said:
I think that's just plain untrue (in the case of TF2). A server with a standard setup only autobalances when team numbers are uneven. Balancing a game that's 12 vs 8 (extreme example) so that it's 10 vs 10 most certainly makes things fairer.

Yes but what happens most times is you have a minute left in a round and suddenly 1/3 - 1/4 of the members on the team about to loose become spectators, and the game autobalances. If your one of the players doing well on the winning team and suddenly are switched, its kind of annoying. The autobalance shouldn't be allowed to kick in if the game is close to finishing.

How would you determine "close to finishing?" I don't think there';s a method that could work anywhere near accurately.

Trade the crate to someone else or deleted. They put up the situation but you are the one that suckered yourself. Don't do it if you don't like it.

Yeah I know. I'm not "fuck this game forever I'm never playing it again," I just can't trust myself to not waste money on collecting bullshit. I'm very compulsive, I still have the ~13,000 star wars cards that I bought with my paper route when I was a kid. I just can't afford to get suckered into this.

Also, I'm not railing against valve or telling people to stop having fun playing TF2 now. I just thought I'd make some people laugh by posting my own anecdote.

The other team was going to lose anyways. I can't do shit in the last 2 minutes. It's a fucking stupid practice. We don't scramble teams mid way through an L4D game when they end up stacked and those games last far longer than the average any other multiplayer game.

That reminds me why I dislike L4D so much. Not that shuffling players would be an ideal situation, but they could have coded in some type of small handicap or bonus to help even the teams slightly. It blows being stuck in a 2+ hour game where you know you're going to lose from pretty much the beginning, moreso because your teammates are probably going to start quitting.

I think the Crate is the most common drop item in the game now, and I am sure people are going to get fed up buying keys soon, so I expect something to change with its dynamic soon.

But in L4D if you're getting rolled as a SI you spend 5 minutes as a survivor then 10 or 15 as special, which is generally pretty fun. And if you're getting really rolled the games last maybe half an hour.

I think the crate works wonderfully as a trade incentive. A hat+crate for hat isn't too shabby.

It would be nice if you could make the keys, though. Maybe 2 scrap metal or something.

Our group has integrity and we never rage.

Except losing in L4D is literally the worst feeling I've ever experienced in games. It makes me feel like such shit, and because I don't want to be a dick, I don't ragequit.

LOSE/LOSE SITUATION

Plus, I'd say that the gaf games are generally balanced.

That's a bummer man. I generally don't mind. And since SI is more fun than S I double don't mind.

:lol there have been some stacked games that made me feel that way exactly. Like those exact emotions. Creepy.

It's especially frustrating because I love the game, but I'm just not good at it. I'm sure I COULD be good with practice, but getting there is such a painful experience.

Nope. I unlocked Demoman Milestone 2, unlocked another sword thing, and it's completely locked out from being traded or crafted.
Making Vintage Items more valuable!

But that really does suck IMO. I hope Valve undoes that, but I guess they are paranoid about some crazy hat farmers who would buy an account, unlock all the milestone weapons super fast + what ever else they get in the mean time, and sell them.

1) Played TF2 for almost three years

2) Got a crate

3) Found out the only way to get a key is buying it

4) put $5 in my wallet to buy a 2.49 item >:( >:( >:(

5) used the key

6) got an equalizer

7) deleted TF2
Holy Shit, I'm laughing but I feel so bad :lol

Okay, at first I was put off by the idea of paid exclusive items, but then I found out that there were only four things (Secret Saxton, Pile o' Gifts, Mann Co. Cap, and Mann Co Supply Crate Key) that were paid exclusive, and the rest were attainable by random drop and trading. I don't plan on buying anything myself, as I'm rather patient, and would rather just make trades for what I want. However, I'm a bit iffy on the crate and key system. This item just teases you and you have to pay $2.50 to find out what it is. I looked at what some of the possibilities and some of them are cool (such as the Dueling thing, Name tag, and Exceedingly Rare Items), but some of them are just regular stuff, which might seem like a waste of $2.50.

I think they should make the keys tradeable, I guarantee you people would want to use those as bartering chips to get whichever rare hat they want.

Yeah, I think pretty much everyone is agreed that the stupid crate/keys are stupid.

Can the crates be turned into metal? I ask because that's what I'm planning to do with both of mine! :D

Crates are a great way to sweeten a trade. I'd save them for that if you don't want to unbox them.

What I wonder is if crates count towards your item drop limit. I hope not as that could make making hats take longer.

so far i have received two crates this week, and each one contained a pyro hat, so i got the nappers respite and the sombrero...im afraid if i get another crate, im gonna end up with some bullshit weapon. But, im glad i got the sombrero, because i traded the nappers respite for a hound dog. So, so far so good with crates, im really loving this update

The first crate I opened only gave me a pick axe. The second one gave me a Napper's Respite a few minutes ago:D

:lol crates. I cant believe people are paying to open them.

Mr. Burns: Now, you can either have the washer and dryer, or you can trade it all in for what's in this box.

Agent: The box, the box!

If a crate was a garenteed polycount item it might be worth opening them, but right now it's just the same as finding random loot but you have to pay to access it, and most of the time the weapon is cheaper to buy anyway.

I love TF2 but I think this store stuff has gone the wrong way, yes yes the game can still be played as normal but to me it's made the entire game feel more tacky then before.

I'm hoarding crates, got 4 so far
One day there will be some kind of magical weapon that only comes in a crate, and then my crates will be worth their weight in gold!

There are already special hats and gear that have unique particle effects that are only found in the crates. Also, the white (Abundance of Tinge) and black (Lack of Hue) paint can only be found in crates.

It's preset what items are available in the crates. So, even if what you propose comes true, the crates you have will never drop that magical weapon.

I've got a crate if someone wants to trade for it (along with something else like some vintage stuff).

I opened a first crate and got white (Abundance of Tinge) paint. OK, enough with $2.50 for mystery item.

Oh . . . you can trade for white paint too. I just want those fast running heavy gloves.

You can usually get a hat for white paint. So that's not too bad a drop.

They're probably getting really valuable data from this experiment. All without having to launch a new product.

I guess I thought that any item you get from a crate can't be traded, and possibly can't be crafted? Also, any item you buy from the store including the rocket jumper can't be traded either, right? It's going to take me forever to get that weapon without paying $0.49. :lol

Crate items are craftable and tradable.

White/Black paint is rare but not really worth a hat. I have opened four crates and three of theme were crate only paints, other one was a wrangler. The pyro hats in them aren't crazy rare to get . They are still more rare than your preupdate hat though.

3 of the 4 crate's I've opened have been Napper's Respites :lol At least those are a good trade.

You're lucky! Seeing as they are just as rare as any other poly hat in a random drop plus with half of the community refusing to buy keys you will probably get some good offers on them.

I know this isn't the main TF2 thread, but damn does the demo player suck. I want to be able to rewind! And why does the avi maker have to be so buggy :'(
