Team Fortress 2 - Bidwell's Big Plan [Microtransactions]

Yeah as N0b said, where's Kak? :lol

That having been said, whoring out a question that I've posted in the online forums.

Is anyone having CPU issues with this game? I've been hitting 100% CPU usage while playing and it's becoming intensive to the point where I'm getting microlags and the game is becoming flat out unenjoyable. I'm on a e6750 and I've OC'ed it to 3.2 ghz to no avail. Got a 460 so that's not an issue. This seems to be problematic in Just Cause 2 as well.

It could be a Windows 7 problem, but I'm running out of ideas.

I could see it being limited on that CPU; it's just gotten incredibly cpu intensive. Have you enabled multicore rendering? That helps a lot in my experience.

Kak's been in a world of Vindictus and Civ V as far as I know.

He quit TF2 long before any of us knew Vindictus or Civ V existed! (Well, I'm sure we all saw Civ V coming eventually, but it hadn't been announced, and they weren't even done with Civ IV expansions, yet.)

are all these new "features" documented anywhere, i dont understand what the fuck crafting and crates are, and when I click on the manual all i get is a 3 pages pdf telling me the specs of a turret.

Multicore rendering has become hella useful in Source. My framerate is cut in half and hiccups if I turn it off in L4D1/2.

And the latest update to TF2's multicore rendering seems to bring it nearer to L4D levels (at a base looking at performance monitor level TF2 now uses all cores equally when before Core 0 would be maxed and the other 3 would be at 50%). I'm glad they're continuing to work on it.

Read this. then this. then this. (TF2 blog major update posts)

Alternately, play the game for several hours, don't worry about what you might be missing, and soak it all in through osmosis.

Weekend rush, update rush combined. It'll die down again. ):

But Crooked Rain and Crushed on the server AT THE SAME TIME. (This is from the olden TF2 days, when it first launched.)

UUUU:
You guys missed me, didn't you? It took me a while to realize you were in the server until I finally recognized your avatar.

i thought you uninstalled hehe

Crafting is not difficult concept. You use items to craft other items. Here is a list of recipes: http://www.tf2items.com/crafting/blueprints.php, but unless you've been playing for a long while, it's pretty worthless to you for now.

Crates are not a difficult concept. You open them, but you need to buy a key, so they're worthless to you unless you're willing to pay $2.50 a pop. I can't imagine you care about this, and I totally wouldn't blame you if you jsut trashed the crates (but you should give them to me instead, 'cause I'm cool).

WE MISSED YOU SO MUCH ;__________;

My new name is awesome but is also an inside joke so I will probably change it back soon.

Maybe.

Boonoo, multicore didn't help! Not really sure what's going on but I'll go futz with it again.

is that like Belgium Waffle combined?

Was playing yesterday Capture the intel on some map. Forgot what it was called but I didn't know where I was going so I ended up bringing the intel BACK to enemy base :lol

Hmm. Strange that it didn't help; if it didn't hurt I'd leave it on. Another thing to check is to make sure your 460 isn't stuck in low power mode (mine gets stuck that way now and then).

You never anwsered if you had an Anti Virus program running at the same time.

Crafting is over a year old.

What is the last major update you remember playing?

Wait, wtf is your name?

I have a E6750 (not OC'ed) and a GTX 260; TF2 seems to run well for me. But, how do you enable multicore??

I do have avast running in the background but I've made exceptions. Next stop: shutting it off.

Advanced graphics options where all the other graphic settings are.

There are now more things in the game. Game ruined.

I guess I now understand why people hate MMO's so much. "You're constantly adding new content!? That's horrible!"

I yearn for the good old days when demos didn't zoom around with medieval melee weapons that gib you from ten feet away, when crits were a random annoyance instead of a core mechanic new abilities are based around, when engies were defensive class and sentries couldn't shoot clear across levels, etc...

This has been stated before and I will state it again for you now: There are vanilla servers that exclude all of the additional weapons. Play on those and stop whining or go play on 360/PS3.

What Valve really needs to do, as suggested by pet, is make cvars for enabling or disabling items. Right now you could set up a vanilla server using server mods, but it would be nice if it were a core mechanic. Then people could have vanilla servers, and hatless servers, and melee servers and whatnot. I'm sure there are enough people out there to populate a vanilla TF2 server or 2.

I don't think this is quite fair. The 360 is lacking far more than new weapons. There have been tons of tweaks that I'm sure people want intact. With all the customization that Valve allows I don't think it's too much to ask for this to be an option (again, its an option now, but it should be easier to accomplish).

I tend to play on critless/no spread (shotgun and damage) servers, so I really can't begrudge someone a vanilla server. Truth be told I wouldn't mind trying out a vanilla server now and then. It would be neat to see how much it really changes. Vanilla nights would also be neat on occasion. You could get rid of all hats and new items and see what it used to look like.

Well, now it just sounds like you're raging more than you actually have a legitimate complaint about TF2 being bloated. And so, I will respond accordingly:

Sword demomen are terrible and easy to kill 99% of the time.

All melee weapons FOREVER have had ridiculous range thanks to lag compensation, and the sword is the same. It has a slightly longer range because it's a SWORD but that's it.

They're actually REMOVING the random crit chances with almost all of the weapons that focus around them, which means that unless you actually trigger the effect to get crits, they're much less "annoying" than random crits.

Engineers have always been good offensive class, but people assumed they weren't because they were dumb.

Wrangler engineers are extremely easy to overcome on account of they suck.

Play on vanilla servers. Next.

the one when crafting came out and didn't explain anything

It's pretty self-explanatory if you just click the craft button.

I know, it's hard to click things!

I get about five vanilla servers under 100 ping, so it's not really a feasible option.

I don't even mind the weapons that make sense and fit the class, but now they're just adding shit for the hell of it and seemingly pulling effects out of a hat and slapping them on whatever. A healing rocket launcher? A piece of alligator skin that gives you more health? It's like they're not even trying anymore.

Crafting isn't even a significant gameplay element.
No, its not, you use it once in a while when there is a new update and stuff you can craft,
or you have so much junk your invintory is about to run out.

I do hope Valve puts in mixing 2 paints to get a random paint color, like hats though.

Confidence Man said:
How does a sword fit a class based on explosives?
You use it right, and it's like magic!

I use it (and the targe) to retreat as often as to attack. It's great for when you get stuck in close-combat and you don't want to blow yourself up. If you're good with it, you gain more speed and more health, which only helps when you're tossing out pipes.

Also it removes the sticky launcher, which is easily the most boring element of the demoman. Pipes > *

What Stallion said is also entirely true.

The Eyelander is super fun, I don't care what anyone says. If you're good with the pipes, you're going to rock face no matter what.

Damn right.

Then it would be called The Scotsman.
So, as I proposed before, you're just raging because it doesn't fit your idea of what the game should be.

That's cool, too.

The sword seems like their first experiment into the "subclass" idea they were talking about for this update. A melee focused option.

My idea of what the game should be happens to be what the game was, at one point anyway.

Huntsman.

And still is, if you ever take the time to actually play it instead of whining about that time lag compensation, which has been present since day one, got your head cut off from too far away.

What the!? The game's nonsensical mechanics are still nonsensical in real world terms! They're not even trying anymore!

Also I'm not sure how a piece of thick alligator leather giving you a slight defensive boost in nonsensical.

PS: Sword demos? Really? About 1 in 50 demos I ever see are actually using the sword and shield.

Yo if he had so much defense irl how'd they get the skin?

Also I see lots of demos using the sword minus the shield but it's pretty rare to see sword&board nowadays. That might be where the confusion is (also the sword is awesome(it's important to listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCxL3-Fl7bM while using it))

That's a retarded thing to do. You lose the health, and don't get the extra defense against fire and explosives, and it makes it harder to catch up to people if they start running away before you cut off their heads.
