Hmm.

I feel bad for his family. I find it amusing that when Falwell (sp) died people came in and said things like, "about time" and "good riddance" but one person brings up Teddy's past and it's in bad taste. I happen to think both are in bad taste but let's be fair.
It's not like Ted made a lifelong career of publicly drowning people.

Disagreeing with someone is perfectly fine, I don't think that's what he was referring to:P

Well, what I guess I should have said is: You know it's not just conservatives who would be happy to see him dead, right?

No, but it saved his career.

Sorry, I really don't mean to make light of it, because it really is a serious and unfortunate thing, but venerating the guy because he has cancer is wrong.

Yeah but alot of the people who thought it was in bad taste to attack Falwell in that thread are the same ones who are outraged by the people attacking Kennedy in this one.

Also, how you guys feeling about the high probability of the GOP becoming a meaningless regional opposition party this fall? Hopefully within 10 years you'll go the way of the Whigs.

ohhh I love it when you talk dirty to me

To answer this question, it's damn nice to see those that would imperil the future our country diminished, but at the same time it's important to ensure that proper socialist reforms occur at a rate that the American people are comfortable with. I'm sort of worried about overplaying the hand, even if the cards dealt are very, very strong.

what did the kennedys ever do to you to make you HAPPY to see one die? Jesus Christ man

exactly. I remember massive bannings of those who were happy with Fawell's death, sadly this thread will likely end up with massive bannings ugh. Teddy deserves better than this.

I'd say it's only morons and idiots who are happy to see someone die.

Mods, regardless of what the person did in the past, this is a sad thread and I urge you guys to Issue permaban warnings on individuals trying to derail the purpose of the thread

So guys what is so evil about the fact Kennedy was front and center on the civil rights issue?

Ending the war in vietnam?

Health care for kids?

Trying to stop the iraq war from being waged?

HELLS YEAH I HOPE HE ROTS IN HELL! Idiots...

Wow...this threads a disaster.

Shut 'er down.

You don't have to respect somebody to avoid being an asshole to them when they get cancer

I don't want the guy to die at all. I may not agree with him on much but he can compromise when he wants something done.

This may be too soon to ask but who is likely to replace him should he become too disabled to continue to serve in the senate?

I can safely assume the govenor will apoint a liberal democrat should he retire mid-term. I guess a better way of saying this is: Who is the most popular politician in the state who isn't in the senate?

Thanks for your long years of service Ted. If I were you, I'd wrap up some things and take some time off.

But it would be nice if you can make sure to vote for the GI bill that is coming up soon.

Just for kicks, I went to the freeper site to see what they were saying . . . the topic has been created and locked up 3 times due to so many terrible people saying terrible things.

History will judge Ted Kennedy, I'm not qualified. Right now a man is dying, and whatever bad he has done he has done good as well and he means a lot to his loved ones. I'll let history be as harsh or not as it wishes, and say that I wish him the best.

seriously, though, ted kennedy spent basically his entire senate career trying to help out people who would otherwise have no voice-minorities, immigrants, children, homosexuals, and the poor.

Even if you despise poor people, hate gays and lesbians, and are a total racist, you can at least support the abstract notion that his actions were noble, I would think.

I hate to be a Ted Kennedy apologist (I think he's a sexist scumbag, though he is a great senator), but Teddy didn't murder anyone. At most, he's guilty of vehicular manslaughter or negligent homicide, and certainly obstruction of justice. Not that it's not horrible what happened, but he didn't hold Mary Jo Kopechne under the water in a bathtub. He drunkenly ran off the road and swam out of the submerged car; she didn't. Then, because he's the son of freakin' Joe Kennedy and all the benefits and liabilities that entails, he didn't report it immediately. There was never any chance to save that woman. Didn't we have a thread here where people confessed that they didn't think they could risk their own lives to save another? Neither could Teddy.

Nobody should probably be left for dead in a sinking car either...

Don't mind him guys. He's a Utah Jazz fan. They are all intolerable, awful human beings.

Well, I just took a look and I'm kinda surprised I didn't say anything nasty about Falwell.
Like the fact that he was pals with Lester Maddox, fought civil rights and called them "civil wrongs", he supported Aparthied and had campaigns to help it out, blamed 9/11 on gays, liberals, pagans(?), etc.

On Ted . . . . well, it is too bad he wasn't driving a Volkswagen. (I post this in good humor . . . I am a fan of Ted Kennedy and much of the work he's done.)

Either of Ted's sons will probably be his successor. Patrick is already a Rep. from Connecticut and Ed was already eyeing a congressional seat

More or less Jeff-DSA is a wacko right winger from what I have seen. Its disgusting what happened to this thread. Ugh, Teddy is a better human than the haters in this thread combined.

Seriously? You're sticking up for the guy? Please...

RFK jr. might too since hillary will be remaining in the senate most likely (he wanted her seat if she won which is not the case).

Either way its going to be a Kennedy. There is going to be a kennedy in that seat (JFK before Teddy) till after all of us are long dead I suppose.

I'm fairly confident that he will serve out the rest of this year unless he's really, really unable to, but will resign at the end of this year. There will be a special election held to fill his seat and RFK Jr., who has been looking at likely Senate runs in NY and CT will almost certainly run and win.

Don't most states have at least a minimal residency requirement? Patrick's maintaining his home in Connecticut, and is filing taxes there, and is a Representative. He can't be both a Rep. from Connecticut and suddenly claim he is living in Massachusetts.

You guys know that people can survive malignant brain tumors even at his age, right?

A bit early to start planning his obituary/successor, especially while he isn't even bed-ridden

Cooter said:
It's not like Falwell killed anyone though.
He might have just filled some gay people with enought guilt that they killed themselves. And he supported the Aparthed regime that did brutally kill people. Those were intentional acts as oppose to the unintentional car accident.

Prognosis is 12 months to 5 years generally.

you guys saying that he "killed" that woman, are you saying it was intentional? This is a serious question, I always assumed he was negligent and irresponsible about the incident. But were there actual allegations that this was murder? What would the motivation have been?

Nobody said he killed her. He fled the scene to avoid being caught drunk. It's pretty obvious.

Again, fellas like cheebs need to chill out a bit. If you're going to talk about the man's life, this is going to come up. It doesn't make you a "right wing wacko" or however you put it. It makes you fair. Do you think the media is going to stay away from that topic? Have they ever?

Yeah thats sssssssssssoooooooo funny....

Well, it's not funny, but if you ignore the context you really can't argue, you SHOULDN'T leave someone for dead in a sinking car. Whether he did so deliberately or not is a separate question, but the basic statement is absolutely correct.

Cheebs is having quite the bitchfit in this topic.

OP: Saddening news =/. Brian tumors are seriously deadly and quite often invincible.

You just have to be a resident when elected. So all they have to do is buy a random house or move into Ted's place and they are all set

I'm not giddy, I just think it's pretty funny that his death could be considered tragic while one he caused is unmentionable.

I really would rather that he not have cancer, but I'm not about to ignore his past just because he does.

Yeah. Can't wait for Laura Bush's comeuppance, then.

Go fuck yourself asshole.
